Lily Ruth Rhodes, 103 of Ripley departed this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at her home.
She was born November 15, 1913 in Roane County, a daughter of the late Marcellus and Minnie Mae Lovegrove Hart.
She was a devoted wife, mother and member of the United Methodist Church. She kept her faith in God throughout her life and touched many people in many ways. She and her husband were married 63 years and never parted except for his Military Service in the Army Infantry during World War II in Germany and the European Theatre. After the War ended her husband enlisted in the Air Force. Their family traveled together for eighteen years stationed at several military bases, attending Churches and Chapels at each Base. The greater part of their military life was spent in “Top of the World,” beautiful Alaska and also in New Mexico. Lily loved nature and stood in awe at the wonder and beauty of God’s creation. After 21 years of Military Service, it was time to retire to the Hills of Home, West Virginia.
Survivors include her sister Eva Woodard of Parkersburg; brother William Marcellus (Mary) Hart of Fairmont; daughters-in-law Antonia Rhodes and Sondra Rhodes; grandchildren Ruth Ann (Ron) Shaffer, Daniel Robert (Susan) Rhodes; great grandchildren Joshua Shaffer, Anna (Casey) Brabham, Tessa (Ryan Rawlings) Shaffer; great great grandchildren Levi Brady Snyder, Aubree Faith Brabham, Braxton Lane Brabham, Ryan “Mack” Rawlings, Sadi Ann Rawlings and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Everette Robert Rhodes Sr., sons Everette Robert Rhodes Jr. and Daniel Hart Rhodes; sisters Frances Reed, Ruby Taylor, Nellie Richards and Velma Cobb and brother Kenneth Hart.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. Friends may call from Noon until 2 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lowther Cemetery, Frozen Camp Creek Rd.
