Hudson Family- Pioneers of Ohio River Valley?

Hi,
I am researching the family of Elizabeth Nancy Hudson, born 18 March 1851 in Hollidayscove, Hancock, Virginia (now West Virginia), to Thomas Hudson & Levina Jane Campbell. Hollidayscove, if it exists, would be around New Cumberland. The obit of Elizabeth says she was born to a family of pioneers of the Ohio River Valley. Thomas Hudson was born circa 1815 in Virginia, probably to John Hutson, who was born circa 1786 in Pennsylvania. Levina Jane Campbell was born circa 1830, probably in Brooke County, Virginia. Thomas & Levina died after 1880.

Elizabeth Nancy Hudson married Calvin Copeland between 1870 & 1875. In 1870, she is with her parents in Hancock County, West Virginia, & her son, Harry, was born in 1873 or 1875, in Millport, Ohio. Her husband, Calvin, was from Columbiana County, Ohio, but there isn't a marriage record there. Could somebody check for their marriage in Hancock County, West Virginia?

Thanks!

My GGGG-Grandfather, Alexander MORROW, (b. before 1740; d. about 1817) a native of Ireland, settled in what is now Hancock County, (W)Virginia in 1798. He purchased a 600 acre tract of land, located on Kings Creek in the south central part of what is now Hancock County. (Source: Alexander Morrow family history, citing "History of the Panhandle", pub. 1879.) His wife was Susan CASSIDY (d. about 1810) and they had 7 children. One of their daughters, Margaret MORROW,(1801-1879) my GGG-Grandmother, married Robert MOREHEAD, (b. about 1765; d. 1837). Robert was also a native of Ireland and then a resident of what is now Hancock county. Both the Morrow and the Morehead families were residents of three different counties (Ohio, Brooke, and Hancock)without having moved.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with connection to either of these lines. I can share information about some descendants of Alexander MORROW and Susan CASSIDY.
I have posted a similar query in the Brooke County Web Page, since I wasn't sure how this situation of different counties was handled.

Please help support this museum anyway you can. It is located on Main St. at the intersection with Cove Road. There is pleny of parking in the back. They have copies of some great old pictures of Weirton; like the parade for the WWI vets when Main street still had trolley tracks and the train station at Weirton Junction that shows some of the first houses built in Weirton.

He passed away October 17th 1946.

His mother was Mary Elizabeth Nordquist. She was married twice the first marriage, I believe, was to Andrew Bjorklund. With whom she had 3 children, Elmer, William and Jennie. The second marriage was to John Rajala. The first 3 children assumed the Rajala name at the time of marriage. The family name was later changed from Rajala to Riley.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Kathy

Brandon Family

I am working on a book about Carlin's Battery "D" of the 1st WV Light Artillery and I am doing a biography of George W. Brandon of Hancock County, WV who served in that company.

I believe George was the brother of James E. Brandon whose first wife was Sarah Swearingen and second wife was Mary Campbell. Mary was the sister of Lt. Milton B. Campbell, the subject of my last book. Mary was the recipient of the letters in the book that her brother wrote to her during the Civil War. (Copies of this book are being donated this week to the Steubenville Schiappa Library and the Swaney Library in New Cumberland).

This Brandon family is found in the 1850 census of Hancock County, WV with their mother, Ruth. A man, William P., the same age as Ruth, 38, is listed after the children and Ruth seems to be the head of the household. But there is also a son, Thomas, 22, listed out of order, so I don't know. It could be that William P. was sick because Ruth did marry John Edwards in 1855 in Brooke County.

In 1860, her children are listed as Edwards. George W. is also with them as George Brandon in 1870, after the Civil War.

I am looking for the the parents of George W. Brandon...so Ruth's maiden name and her husband's name. Also, I am looking for the maiden name of George W. Brandon's wife, Sarah, and their marriage date. They lived in Hancock County for most of the time and then before 1910 they moved to Steubenville. - The children of George and Sarah were: Olive, Lottie/Lillie, George, Anna R., William, Martin, Thomas, Robert, Westley.

My grandfather Samuel Reeves Webb b Tomlinson Run 21 Oct 1858. The reasion for his middle name "Reeves" is unknowen. I have not been able to find any reference to name "Reeves" anyplace back in the family. Looking at the New Manchester 1850 census recently posted on the "pitstop" site I see a William Reeves age 47 listed as a M.P. Minister, born in England. My grandmother was Mary L. Spivey b 1863. Samuel Reeves parents: Thomas Webb b 1874 and Rachel Baxter b 1826. The family lived on there farm out Gas Valley Road at the PA state Line. There church appears to be what is now the Pughtown Christian Church. Any one have any thoughts reguarding the "Reeves" name?

POW/MIA Korean War, Hancock Co. LEWIS

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave New Cumberland as his home of record. His remains were never recovered

Soldier:WILLIS ENCIL LEWIS
Born: Sept. 11, 1932, Caucasian
Date of loss: March 2, 1952, KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 54 families in West Virginia that have not been located. There is one family from Hancock County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
My great grandfather lived and died in Hancock County as so did my grandfather Henry Strum. I am very frustrated that I cannot find our family history or records here in your surname list. I know for fact you have atleast 7-13 of the Strum's living in your county now, that is paying taxes at this time, and none of them can be found. They are property owners and so were their decendents. I would like to know why. It would be nice to find these records for our family tree.
Thank you.........
Lynn

I am looking for information on a marriage between Benjamin Jacob (or Jacob Benjamin) Rockenhauser and Lillian Roman, about 1912. I believe the marriage took place in Chester, WV. I am not sure whether they continued to live in Chester after their marriage. I contacted Pennsylvania as I thought Benjamin died in PA, but they have no record so I think he might have spent his last years in WV, possibly in Chester. I would appreciate any information. Thanks.

My grandmother got married when she was 16, I didn't find a marriage license for them in Ohio, they probably had to cross state lines to get married. They lived in Stark Co.Ohio, so I'm guessing that they probably went to W.Va. to get married. My grandfather was born in W.Va., in Upshur County. I would guess that they probably would just go somewhere just inside the state line. Hancock county would be the closest, though they could have gone to Brooke or Ohio Counties. How in the world would I locate their marriage license? I have not been able to find out who my grandfather's parents were, I was hoping their marriage license would tell me.

Mary Paskevich or Paskevage, maybe in Weirton?

My grandfather (1924-1986) grew up in Weirton, but moved to Louisville for the war in the 1940s. He used to say the name "Mary Paskevich" or "Paskevage" while he played with the grandchildren. We always assumed it was a made up person but now I am wondering if this was someone he knew in Weirton or Pittsburgh, where he had ties. His last name was Walsh. Thanks.

Elizabeth V. Creese, born in November of 1911, and her parents, Charles T. and Grace Owings Creese, lived on a truck farm in the Congo area of Hancock County until the early 1950s when Charles became too ill to farm and the family relocated to Wellsville, OH.
Elizabeth never married. When she died on Christmas day 1986, without a will, arrangements were made to auction her household possessions. Among those possessions were old family photographs passed to Elizabeth by her mother, Grace Owings Creese. Grace was one of the daughters of Dr. Elias J. and Elizabeth Campbell Owings. The particular photo I'm looking for is of David and Polly Campbell who would have been Grace Owings Creese's maternal grandparents. As it turns out, this is the only photo of my great great grandparents known to exist. I am seeking information on the person who would have bought the photos the day of the auction, in the spring of 1987, or have knowledge of these pictures. Neither the administratrix assigned by the court nor the attorney of record can remember and there is nothing in the list of estate items that mentions photographs. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
terri mccullough
toronto, ohio
Does anyone have a book with the lists of people buried in different cemeteries in Hancock Co. My grandparents AMANUAL DAVIS and LENA DEL"DELLA" KING DAVIS were married in Pleasants Co., WVa. on 16 Mar. 1904 , but moved to Hancock Co., WVa. shortly after they were married. Their first child CHARLES DAVIS was born near Arroyo as were three other children. CHARLES(born between 1904 and 1909) died within two hours of his birth and is buried somewhere near Arroyo, Hancock Co., WVa. Other children born in this county were ADA "MILDRED" DAVIS(born 24 Aug. 1909), MARGARET ELIZABETH DAVIS(born 10 Mar. 1912) and LEWIS OSCAR DAVIS(born 21 Dec. 1914). Amanual worked in the Oil Fields in WVa. and in 1915 this family moved to Oklahoma for the Oil Boom there. Can someone help me locate the grave of CHARLES DAVIS???? Thank You.

I have left a copy of my 15+ foot long Campbell family tree in the care of Shari Pepper at the Mary H. Weir Library in Weirton. I am hoping that extended family will stop by and either fill in their line or correct what is already there.
I started with the descendant's list on the campbellot website which gave me a great start. I emailed Lee Campbell but have not had a response. His list ended with my great grandmother, Martha Jane Campbell, identified only as "daughter Campbell." Our line is now complete but whole sections of the tree are missing.
I am hoping extended family will stop by the library and fill in their line or correct what is already there. The tree currently has over 722 individuals with 186 surnames including: Langfitt, Blankenship, McGlumphy, Wilcoxen, Virtue, Trushel, Truax, Carr, Miller and Redd.
I am willing to share my findings with anyone doing parallel research and will print a descendant's list for anyone contributing information.
terri mccullough
toronto, ohio
James & Patience Campbell >> Alexander Campbell >> David Campbell >> Martha Jane Campbell Miller >> Mary Winona Miller McCullough >> Edwin Jennings McCullough >> Terri Lynn McCullough
