Good evening,

I'm beginning a new research effort. I've recently broken a brickwall on my great grandfather's father who was Sampson Moore. On his death certificate in 1858, it claims he was born in Monroe County, VA in 1790. In 1790, this was Greenbrier County as far as I can tell. It lists his parents as William and Sarah Moore.

When Scott County, Virginia was formed in 1814, Sampson was there on the tax lists.

By 1820, he was in Floyd County, Kentucky.

By 1830, Pike County, Kentucky had formed and he is found there.

In 1840, he is across the line over in Logan County, VA.

In 1850, he is in Lewis County, Kentucky, where he died in 1858.

I have records that trace this as the same Sampson Moore from Scott through his death in Lewis County.

I am now beginning the search for the right parents. All I have to go on for right now is what is on his death record: William and Sarah Moore.

I'm thinking William's year of birth could be between 1750 - 1775. He could have been a little older than that too...men tended to marry a couple of times in my line with the second wife being much younger and producing a second line of children.

I'm thinking he might have been part of the Scots-Irish settlement in Augusta County around that time...while the counties sprung up around him.

Any help would be appreciated....

Common males names in the line are William, Samuel, John, Sampson. and James (like a lot of Moore lines at the time)

Less common but present names are Jackson, Henry, Nathan(iel) and Wesley.

Any help on possible William Moore & Sarah ? marriages or families would be helpful.
