i know this is a old message but here goes my gr grand father was james h sattler married to ann hoffer ,he was actual a saddler if this helps you he change the spelling after ann died they had two girls claire and evelyn .im evelynns grand daughter,, his father was Henry Saddler and mother was Nancy Stewart,they had 12 children.if need more let me know ,they lived in and around scioto county .james has a brother named john

Hi, I do not have a lot of info on Mathew either but he was a full brother to my ancestor Thomas Adkins. Mathew died, I assume between 1881 and 1887. I believe someone said in a railroad accident but have never found that info anywhere else. Rex was born in 1888 and I was told he was not Mathew's child he was already deceased.

I was told that they took the Adkins name and their mother was a Stanley and their father a Tinnell. They were raised by Morris and Ollie Stanley Adkins. I assume Ollie was the mother. They also had a sister Evaline who went by Stanley she married Charles Willard Nicholas. Tommy and his wife Isabella Bragg Adkins are buried at the Woods Cemetery not sure if Mathew is there.

My great grandfather was an attorney in the area of Hawks Nest during and after the Tunnel Disaster. I will look at my notes and see if Dr Elliott was one of his doctors that consulted during that time.

Follow up to message from DebFam57 in 2007 (which is me)...not sure where my head was when I posted that one. I know all the brothers of Hosea Fitzwater. My great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Fitzwater is the brother to Hosea. Sorry for the confusion.

Just to clarify, I don't have a family tree online. I've published a three volume set of books for my family history and am now working on what will be a two volume set for my wife's family history. Copies of these are now on the shelves at the Library of Congress, Mormon Library, DAR Library, SAR Library, Allen County Library and the New England Historical and Genealogical Society.

Ok...I see my problem. I had an Iseah F Fitzwater with the same birthdate as Thomas...wondering if they were twins...but when you mentioned the name Zed I see I had a note with Iseah speaking of his death and that they called him Zed. I realize now it is the same person. Thank you.

I did not have his name as Izeah Thomas, just Thomas and a birthdate 28 May 1904, Clay WV. Same one...right? If so, you just helped me as I had no other information on him. I will try to view your tree. I do not have a tree online at the moment but am happy to share anything I have found.

Yes. Angeline was my grandmother and Hosea my grandfather. Their son, Izeah Thomas was my father. He changed his name to Thomas legally later in life. Family always called him Zed.I believe you can see the line I worked on as I did not make it Private.

Debbie, Roena Angeline Adkins was my grandmother. Her father was Morris Adkins, b.1815 VA and mother Dorothy Oily Stanley. You are right when you say the Adkins are dificult to find. Onthe other hand, Angeline's maternal line is easy. They come from her mother Nancy Holcomb.
If you should find anyything beyond Morris I would be grateful for any information.

Andrew Jackson married Emma. they had: Artie, Flossie, Alsie Odie, and Ovie.They are all in their 80s. Elish married Ina and they had twin boys, Ida Fay, Donald. Flemming had no children. Thomas married Helen Astmann and they had Gale. Benjamin had several, but memory fails me.
Hosea's father was Elisha Fitzwater, married to Harriet H. Nichols. Elisha's father was George Washington Fitzwater, married to Nancy Hamrick.On Roena Angeline's side, her father was Mathew Adkins married to Nancy Holcomb. Mathew Adkin's father was Morris Adkins married to Dorothy Stanley.

My uncle Flem must have married a second time to another Irene. they were married until his death and had no children.She remarried Campbell and widowed again.

Hi COUSIN Rita. I am Gale Fitzwater and your dad was my uncle, brother to my dad, Izeah Thomas. I remember the cemetery where I buried dad. It was at the original homestead. The entrance was not paved back then. It was in Clay.

I remembr my uncle Sherman well. He had suffered a stroke that partially paralized him, but it didn't keep him from writing the Fitzwater Family history. Unfortunately, much of the proof was thrown out after his death! He and his niece Artie went all over gathering grave rubbings, certificates, etc.

No relation to me. However, the Fitzwaters were down the line of my wife's ancestry, but rather remotely. Just published three volumes of my ancestry (mostly from colonial Massachusetts)and am now working on my wife's families from West Virginia. Will publish that within another year, hopefully. That'll include her Morgan line (primarily from Greenbrier County) and the allied families of Ballard, Camden, Holcomb, Martin and Mann. The Fitzwaters married into her Holcomb line.

Fleming B. Fitzwater was born 11 May 1906 in Clay Co, WV, the son of Hosea L. and Roena Angeline (Adkins) Fitzwater. He died 7 Apr 1982 at Ansted, Fayette Co, WV. He married at Gandeeville, Roane Co, WV, 6 Jan 1936 Irene Phammie Cavender, a divorcee. She was born 12 Mar 1908 in Kanawha Co, WV, the daughter of Samuel Wyatte and Genela Florence (Beaver) Cavender. Irene Phammie Cavender had married first, at Charleston, Kanawha Co, WV, 19 Nov 1923 Ernest Carl Canterbury, born 19 Mar 1905 at Poca Fork, Kanawha Co, WV, the son of William Christopher and Mammie Afspie (Jones) Canterbury. Ernest was a truck driver, living at Charleston, Kanawha Co, WV, in 1930. Ernest enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He died 18 May 1975 at Charleston, Kanawha Co, WV. Irene and Ernest had two children: Zollie Edison Canterbury, born 4 Oct 1924, died 11 Dec 2004 at Charlottesville, VA. Zollie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II; William Edward Canterbury, born 9 Feb 1927, died 6 Feb 1978. Fleming and Irene were divorced by 1940, when he was working as the district manager of the Charleston Daily Mail newspaper, living single at East Rainelle, Greenbrier Co, WV. Fleming enlisted 20 Jan 1941 in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Fleming was buried at Hendricks-Turkey Creek Cemetery, Ansted, Fayette Co, WV. Hi Becky ran across your post doing some research. In my Brown family tree there is a George brown born 14 Feb. 1826 and was married in 1846 to Frances O'dell he died in 1899. His father was Alexander Brown 1784-1858. Since he is not the line I am following I don't know about sons of his. He is the brother to my 5x greatgrandfather.

The following is a good website www.wvculture.org for info in WV. These Mullins are not in our line but I found the following:

Lewis Mullins and Olive Salisbury were married 5/14/1868 in Clay County. Lewis was born in Floyd County Ky and Olive in Wyoming County, WV. (Verified by marriage cert on line at above website). There are several trees on Ancestry.com listing his father and mother to be Marshall Matthew Mullins 1808-1864 and Ollie Blaylock. I don't see verification of this link but if you are an ancestry member you can contact the owners of the trees and determine how the info was acquired. Lewis died in 1910 in Clay County WV.

Viola E Mullins and Charles Page were married 10/9/1897 in Clay County. He was born in Kanawha County 6/5/1871. His father is listed as James M Page and wife Elizabeth. Viola was born in Clay County and died 7/17/1950 in Carbondale, Fayette County, WV. These facts are also online at the above website.

Hope this helps and is not duplicative as to the records you have.
