I'm looking for additional information on Peter Saurborn, born 1819 in Prussia, immigrated to US in 1840, married Mary Jane Bennett in 1845, and was a member of the Moccasin Rangers during the beginnings of the Civil War. He was killed in 1861. I have the basics, but I'm looking for MORE, like WHY did he join the Rangers?

Also looking for parents of Mary Jane Bennett, b 1829.

Also looking for info on Alexander Francis Saurborn, b 1846 to Peter and Mary Jane, called "BUB". He married Mary Ellen "Ellie" Criss.b.1853. I have loads of info on her family. I"m looking for stories and other info on BUB.

Edward Fletcher Saurborn, s/o Alexander "BUB" Saurborn and Ellie Criss was my ggrandfather. Also any info on him.

All these people lived in Calhoun County. MY grandfather, Lloyd Saurborn, b 1918, d.2001. was born in a house on Little Creek Rd, between Creston and Annamariah. He and my grandmother, Loretta Wood Saurborn lived there for many years before she died in 1990.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Yes! I am seeking more info on these families. I am gathering more information on my fictionalized historical novel of Peter Saurborn. I'd like to make it as accurate as possible. I don't have hardly any info on Mary Jane Bennett or her ancestors. I have most of the Saurborn line.

Unfortunatly, we had a terrible virus on our computer and didn't have time to save our family tree files and ged coms. I lost everything. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My mother , Helen Saurborn Byerly was Lloyd Saurborn's first cousin. We visited him and Loretta at Little Creek back in the 1980's. It is my understanding that Peter Saurborn organized the moccacins. Re: Bub, according to his niece he was a highly moral man and was well thought of in the community. She said before breakfast the family would sing hymns. Regarding "Uncle Ed" he was quite a musician and loved to square dance. "Aunt Elvie was a very religious lady. Have you read Pinkney Saurborn's writings on the Saurborns?

How is the book coming? Peter Saurborn is my gg grandfather. Made a trip to Calhoun county and there's more to the story and his death. A reporter for the Chronical made a great observation. "History is always written by the victors." WINSTON CHURCHILL. Have you ever gotten any info. on Sinking Springs and where it is located? I have seen down near Arnoldsburg and over in Wirt county on the calhoun line.

Alexander was my grandfather's dad. Sanky Moody Saurborn. He died in 1949. He said that his father told him that PETER entered the US through NEW ORLEANS. It was a Catholic city so thats not surprising. He didn't like it. was too wild for him. He arrived around 1840. He left soon after and traveled up the Mississippi to the Ohio River. The scenery was more like Prussia. Why he decided on Monongahelia County don't know. He met Mary Jane and her family was not keen on them being together. don't know if it had to do with the church, she was a Southern Baptist in Calhoun County. they both were religious. He had a tanning business on the river as well as being the post master. He WAS NOT political. The Union soldiers were all over the county and being a family man they organized a group to protect their property. The others were all well respected in the community. the rest is history. I don't believe they were as bad as some claimed. History is written by the victors. Dianne
