My g-g-g-grandfather was Joseph Bennett (1791-1880), who is buried in the cemetery at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church near Normantown.

I am a descendant of Joseph's son Nathan. We have a hand written family history which states that Nathan's wife Matilda (Ball) and four of their children were drowned, "at the first ford in Steer Creek traveling upstream," on March 19, 1874. The note also says that they were buried at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, which we believe is the one near Grantsville.

I have visited the "old" part of the cemetery at the current site of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, but none of the markers went back to the 1870's. I suspect now that we may not have been at the original site of the church.

I recently ran across a history of the Bethlehem Baptist Church which indicates that the church moved to a new location in 1894. However, it is unclear from that report where the original church was located. Any information regarding the site of the original church and whether there is a cemetery on that site would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
