Carl Blaine Thompson: History of My Four Grandparents

My Grand-Uncle Carl Blaine Thompson wrote a history of his four grandparents. He and my Great-Aunt Sophie spent years traveling to courthouses and visiting family members collecting information. It was never published by him before his death and he had no children. However, he did give copies to family members. I am searching for other family who received copies of this. I already found one family member. Cousin Ed Griffith, if you read this please email me.
My copy was given to my father by Uncle Carl and now it is in my keeping. By discovering who has copies I may find relatives or relatives of relatives.

Karen Thompson Wilmoth

James Bates, Daniel Bates, Susan Bates Adkins

After much research with land, vitals and census and tax list I have concluded that Moses Bates of Lawrence County Ohio was most likely the child of Daniel Bates. Moses had two daughters before he married Elizabeth Chinn. One was Margaret or Peggy and the other was Susan Bates who married John Adkins. I have looked at family relationships etc I still do not know where James Bates fits into the picture as the DNA from both family lines do not match. James lived in Cabell. Both families married Chinn relatives and lived near them in Wayne County. Would like to hear from Chinn or Bradshaw researchers as to a father of James or Daniel. My theory is John or Thomas. Any new leads on the father of the Bradshaw girls that married Bates?

William Benjamin ELKINS married Nancy J. BLAIR and had a daughter, Nancy E(Elen?) b. 1876 in Cabell Co., WV,
she married W. M. Bandy on 11-Mar-1899 in Cabell Co., WV. He was born 1871
in Tazewell Co., VA. However, Nancy J. BLAIR died and William remarried to Nancy Elen Elkins. I am interested in finding out any information on Nancy E. & W.M.Bandy and descendants. Anyone have access to an 1880 Census? Thanks John Blair

I am looking for information on Thomas Edwards (1830-1908) I saw his grave at the Neal Cemetery in Cabell County when I was in WV doing research. It appears he is the only Edwards in that cemetery. He was married to Lovina Knapp, but I did not see her gravestone there. Is she buried there in one of the un-marked graves in the Neal Cemetery, or somewhere else?

I am also searching for any/all info on Thomas's brother, George.

Thank you

Denisa Hinkle

Appreciation for LYKINS/LIKENS and IRWIN/ERWIN information

After over three years of searching in vain for information about our LYKINS/LIKENS and IRWIN/ERWIN ancestors, we were told of the Cabell County website. An immediate response from Candi Freeman gave us new information while directing us to another dedicated researcher who provided three generations of precious family history. Mere words can never express our sincere appreciation for the dedication and time Cabell County's wonderful volunteers are giving to make this web site a truly invaluable genealogical resource.

I have seen numerous family trees that has German Chapman parents as John Chapman and Lucy Hudson. I found a death certificate that has his father as Anderson Chapman and I need someone to help me straighten this out. I would hate to think all those family trees are wrong. First German Chapman was born 15 April 1839 in Cabell County, (WV)VA. He died 01 April 1922 in Culloden, Cabell, WV. He married Ellender Conner 22 Oct 1858 in Cabell County, WV. Now here is what his death certificate has on it.
I am confused as to who the father of German Chapman is and hopefully someone can help me straighten this out. I thought John Chapman was his father until I found German's death certificate. This is what the death certificate has on it. Name:German Chapman
Place of Death: Grant, Culloden, Cabell, WV
Birth Year: Apr 1839, Age: 83
Occupation: Farmer
Birthplace: Cabell Co, WV
Name of Father: Jackson Chapman
Birthplace of Father: Virginia
Informant: J G Chapman
Address of Informant: Culloden, WV
Filed: 02 April 1922
Registrar: Albert R Field
Date of Death: 01 April 1922
Cause of Death: Catarrhl Jaundice
Signed: L ? C or O Morrison, MD signed 01 April 1922
Address: Milton, WV
Place of Burial: Zoar Church
Date of Burial: 02 Apr 1922

Could Anderson be the middle name of John Chapman? If not then Anderson has to be the father as is on the death certificate and not the John Chapman that married Lucy Hudson. The death certificate is a copy of the original and I have a copy of it. I believe the informant reporting the death is John Gallatin, German's son.

Any comments on this?

KELLERMAN / TRAINER / TRAINOR / RECE / BALL Family Query

I am researching our family through the Kellerman[n], Trainer / Trainor, Rece, Ball line and hit a wall. Another Cabell County thread here ties up what I found about Allen Rece and son Abia, daughter Sallie and so forth, which was pleasantly nice!

Moving through Allen Rece's son Joseph married to Emma Elizabeth yields Emma's father as James Thomas Rece and Martha Ellen Ball. I am having a difficult time qualifying information between James Thomas Rece and Martha Ellen Ball.

I have a slew of old family pictures from my mom's side of the family that makes Emma my ggrandmother and Martha my gggrandmother, but tough digging up facts in this time period from WV.

Occasionally our family will visit old cemetaries and take photos so I am trying to put this together.

Any help is greatly appreciated! BTW - I am new to this so please forgive any mis-information.

Rece Family, Cabell County, West Virginia
Allen Rece was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, of Welch descent, and in 1780 married Mary Clymer and remained in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. (There is rumour that Mary Clymer was related to the George Clymer who signed the Declaration of Independence, but I have no proof regarding that relationship.) Joseph Rece, their first child, was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in 1781. After this they moved to Bedford County, Virginia, near the Peaks of Alton where their second child, Abia Rece, was born on February 15, 1784. The Rece family lived there until 1791 when they moved again to the Kanawha Valley near Charleston, specifically at the mouth of Kelly's Creek. In 1797 they moved again, this time to Teays, Putnam County, where their third child, Sallie Rece, was born, on February 9, 1798. In 1803 they moved yet again to a point three and one-half miles east of Barboursville (the James Dundas farm near Blue Sulphur). It was here that Abia died of "paralysis" in 1837. Mary Clymer died near the same place at the house of her daughter Sallie (Mrs. Nathan Everett) in 1858. The Everett house and farm occupied the land where the "Poor Farm" or "Boys Home" now stands. Allen Rece and Mary Clymer were buried on their farm at Blue Sulphur but were later moved to the 5th Avenue Guyandotte Cemetery by the DAR.

Allen Rece was a soldier of the Revolution, having enlisted in 1776 and serving three months as a wagoneer under Captain Grover and Colonel Proctor. He was a private for one month under Captain Singer and served for seven months under Colonel Irwin in 1779. He was a wagoneer under Captain Ferguson and Colonel Hooper in 1780. He was a private under Captain Thomas and Colonel Robertson in 1781 and 1782. (This information by authority of the records of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and the U.S. Army Pension Department.) On June 24, 1838, a pension was granted to Mary Clymer as widow of Allen Rece.

Hello,

I am looking for information regarding the Freeman Cemetery.
My ancestor, Grey Lathan Freeman, died in Ceredo in 1939 and the place of burial on the death certificate was listed as Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. However, his wife wrote in his funeral book that he was buried in the Freeman Cemetery. Thanks to some kind and generous research by another poster I have found that Spring Hill has no record of Grey Freeman's interment.
So, I'm looking for any mention of where the Freeman Cemetery might have been, when or if the bodies were removed, etc. I am posting this on both the Cabell and Wayne County boards. Any help appreciated. Thanks again!

Aubrey

Rose married Ancermo (Andy) Tabar on October 6, 1956 in Huntington, West Virginia. They were married for almost 50 years before his passing on April 12, 2006. Rose is survived by five sons, Warren Juan, Timothy John, Troy Jonathon, Daniel Joseph, and Anthony Allen; two daughters, Sharon Leilani Lewis and Michelle Lee Taylor; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Robert Farris from Nebraska. She touched many lives and was always there for her children when they needed her. She will be heartily missed by all those who loved and knew her.
I am looking for information on Paul Hardy and family that resided in Huntington, Cabell Co., WV. There is one in the social security death index: Paul Hardy Born 21 Aug 1914 died May 1983 Huntington, Cabell, West Virginia. Does anyone have an obit for him. Does anyone live in Huntington and can ask around about this family? They appear in Huntington on the 1930 census, so they were in Huntington for years.

Bias Web Project

I am attempting to set up a generational file on every Bias branch I can locate, with family group sheets. I think that organizing the info in one place is the only way we will ever have a chance to start patching a tree together.

Please send me all generations of your Bias history include:
1. Known Dates for every person,
2. Estimate birth dates where no dates are known,
3. All children (& spouses) of each generation,
4. Names of parents & siblings (when known) of every

individual that married into your Bias Family.

With this info we will be more likely to match your Branch into the family & make a more complete tree. Further, with names of parents & siblings of spouses, future researchers will have a starting point for that branch of the family.

Please send in “Word Format”, typed into the body of an e-mail or send me an address of your site where I can go & retrieve the info myself. I know this is a lot of work for those of you that do not have this info in a data base, but this will work. Lots of info is pouring in already. E-mail me with questions & comments and YOUR INFO directly at; Hoffert@nccoast.net

Please, do not post all your info on this Query Board, as it would JAM this Site if even half of you respond. All those that respond will get a notice in about 4 weeks when the site is up & running.

Thank you for time, efforts & interest, Carrie Bias Hoffert

Just so you know, I am not doing this in an effort to connect my own tree, I have my Bias Lineage back to 1722, with complete FGS to James Byass/Bias, of Amherst Co, Va whose descendents moved to Cabell Co, WV.

I JUST THINK IT IS TIME WE DO THIS SO THAT ALL BIAS MEMBERS CAN MAKE THEIR OWN CONNECTIONS!!! That is said for those skeptics out there, so they can relax & maybe participate so that we all will benefit.

Thank you for your time, interest & responses. In the 1900 census of Cabell county, he, his wife Martha "Charlie" Holman Myers b.aug 1842, his daughters, Mary L.M. b.Nov 1874 and Clara Liddey, b.Jul 1884, his sons, Bernard R. b.Dec.1876, William L b.Mar 1873./Mary married Tom Cowherd, Clara married Rev. Also an older son, John Henry, b.abt 1864 who died 1905 in Jacksonville, Fla. By the census, we know Dr. & Mrs. Myers had 8 children and that all but Clara were born in Virginia where Dr. Myers went to school.
I am looking for any information on my great-great grandfether, Samuel V. Fleck. I think the V may have stood for Valentine, but this is just speculation. He was born in 1797, migrating to Virginia sometime before 1829 when he married Jane Evans in Augusta, Staunton County, Virginia. They raised their family in what became Kanawha County, West Virginia. (West Virginia became a state in 1863)

I need info on people who could have been Samuel's siblings or parents. The family believes they had German roots.

Pamela Fleck Willison (PFleckWillison@aol.com)
