Eustace Butcher Falls from Pilot in Front of Own Engine at Peach Creek

Eustace Butcher, 23, of 1932 Artisan avenue, a brakeman on the Chesapeake and Ohio railway, was killed Christmas day when he was struck by the engine of his train at Peach Creek, near Logan, on the Guyan Valley division of the C. & O.
He was riding on the pilot of the engine and reached down to remove a warning signal torch from the railroad tracks when he lost his balance and fell under the wheels of the train, according to a report of the accident.
The body was brought to Huntington on the Guyan Valley passenger train Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon from the home of his mother,Mrs. Laura Butcher, at Tom's Creek, with Rev. Silas Billups officiating, following which interment will take place near Tom's Creek.
He leaves his widow, four brothers, Henry and Wilbert Butcher of Tom's Creek, Thomas Butcher of Madison, W. Va., and Charles Butcher, of Oley, and three sisters, Mrs. J. Bledsoe and Misses Marie and Ruth Butcher of Tom's creek.
