Marilyn,
I have never before responded to a genealogy message board. I was searching for info on an early Braxton Co. denizen (not related to me), when I happened across your query. I was intrigued by the subject matter of your query, because it is a matter with which I am quite familiar. Although I haven't resided in WV for over 60 years, I was born and reared there, in Stumptown, on Steer Creek, in Gilmer Co. (1927-1944). I just visited a lot of Kuhl and other relatives there last June.
My paternal-maternal g-grandmother was Rebecca Jane [Kuhl] Stout, the youngest child, and only daughter, of Henry & Catherine [Yeagle] Kuhl. In the public records the surname was also spelled Cole, Coal, & Cool).
Henry, Catherine, and 2-sons, arrived in the port of Baltimore, from Koblenz, in the Rheinland-Plaz in Prussia, in 1838. One child, Christian, was born in Baltimore, in 1839. Their other 3-children were all born in VA/WV. I have beaucoup info on the Kuhl family.
I live in Portland, OR.
Tell me how you are related and what you need.
John.

John....Henry Kuhl was my ggg grandfather. And as you stated the name spelling was changed after the hanging. So therefore, my maiden name was Marilyn Cole. I live in WEst Virginia and I have been researching the family for about five years. I supplied the documentation and trial transcripts to an author here and he and I put together the true story(book) according to the civil war trial transcripts concerning my ggg grandfather. It is a small paper back book but is full of the facts. I am in the process of doing another book on my own and I am trying to include pictures and such. I did acquire a picture of his house before it was torn down and picxtures of where the crime took place as well as the burial site. This is how my line goes.....actually it would be better if you could email me directly. Is that possible....my email is the same..mposey525@aol.com. Really would love to converse with you. I really need anything you would be willing to give me.If you like, I would love to mail you a copy of the book,,,free of charge of course....please let me know by email. Hope to hear from you soon.
