I somehow don't believe that Sidney's mother Emma was the daughter of Ballard & Rachel Gunnoe, this Emma was born after 1892 ( which is when Sidney was born ), so it can't be his mother. What I would like to know is, what was Emma's Maiden name before she married William Gunnoe ( but had Sidney with Hannon Nelson)? That is the conclusion that I've come to. Please email me to my personal email, I'd like very much to collaborate with you on this, or, anyone you may know of who could give me the missing puzzle pieces, so to speak.

I am a grandson of Sid Nelson, I like you believe Sid was the son of Hannon Nelson and Emma Gunnoe, I also now believe that Sid was married before my grandmother to a lady by the last name of Ferguson, and had a son Fred Nelson, I also believe that Emma's father's name was "Ballard Gunnoe, Mothers name was Rachel, I also believe that Emma had a 2nd child by the name of Pearl Austin, which would have been a sister to Sid, I have met as a child my Dad's 1/2 brother Fred, I have also heard my dad speak of sid's 1/2 sister Pearly.

If you go to FindAGrave.com and select WVA Boone Co and type in Barker Cemetery..it will provide you directions and you will be sble to select the posting for both IRA ROSCOE ALLEN JAVINS and NORMA SANSOM JAVINS..Their obituaries are found there. Also, many of the children are listed.

The DC for IRA identifies his parents as GEORGE JAVINS and LUCY SMITH. The DC is on line.

Also the DC for LUCY SMITH JAVINS identifies her mother as RACHEL LETTIE SMITH. Father: Blank

1920 Census for Boone County shows a Ira and Norma Javins with many children including a 1 year old son, Dilford Javins.

1908 4 May - Boone County, WV
Marriage between Ira Rosco Javins, age 18, born Boone County and Noermy Sansom age 17, born Lincoln County. Married at Fork Creek (which touches the edges of Lincoln and Boone Counties). At one time Fork Creek had a thriving logging business with a saw mill.

Thank you so much for replying, however, all the info which you found I have also found. I don't think Emma Belle Williams & Emma Gunnoe are the same person. Williams was already married to a Manderville Nelson ( could have been a cousin or uncle to Hannon ?) when my Great Grandfather was born. I cannot find a marriage certificate for Hannon & Emma, even though the birth certificate states they were married at the time ( but then again, it doesn't mean they were married either ). I cannot find her family, when & where she was born, just the small bit of info on the BC. I have contacted Gunnoe families who have done extensive research on their family & no one knows who she was. The other thing which could have helped me, ( but, of course, I also can't find )is, from the time my G-Grandfather was born in 1892, I can't find him living with anyone in any census records until he is 16 & living as a Boarder. It also doesn't help either that I no longer have any family members left to ask about any of this.
But I do very much appreciate you taking the time to look into this for me, as I said, I live nowhere close to physically go & look this stuff up, I'm actually 3 states away from WV. Once again, thank you so much for the reply & your help.

Not a family member but I did a search on line and came up with the following and perhaps some suggestions for further research:
1..In the birth record for SIDNEY NELSON on 3-2-1892 F: Hannon Nelson Age 30 M: EMMA GUNNOE age 28

q. In the 1910 census for KC I came across the following #159-159 NELSON, HANNON ---1872 28 M-3 yrs
MALISSA wife Feb 1873 27 2 ch/1 live LOTTIE dau May 1899 1
Thinking perhaps this was the HANNON NELSON, I considered the possibility of a divorce.
And in household @145/141 NELSON, EMMA B. DEC 1863 Age 35 Divorced 4 ch/ 2 live HOWARD Son MAR 1888 CARRIE dau APR 1890 10

I initated a search for a marriage for a CARRIE NELSON and came across a marriage to a ARTHUR ROBERT TYLER..

Next search was for a death certificate for CARRIE ELIZABETH TYLER...DC indicates born 12 April 1890 Died 4-2-1954 in Kanawha Co
Father: MAN NELSON
Mother: EMMA BELLE WILLIAMS
Burial:Graceland Memorial Park

Just started research on my family tree & found I descend from Thomas & Clarissa ( Nunn ) Nelson thru their son Elijah & Nancy (Sena ) Nelson thru their son Hannon & Emma Gunnoe. I cannot find any info whasoever on Emma Gunnoe. Is anyone familiar with her? Born supposedly in Camels Creek ( Campbells Creek? )Kanawha Co. about 1864 or who may know her family history. I live nowhere close to the courthouse and/or the local library to do any lookups, so any info at this point on Emma would be truly appreciated.

Saw your post, Thomas & Clarissa are also my 4th Great Grandparents. Nice to meet you. I descend thru their son Elijah & his son Hannon. I just started searching this past Dec. & got stuck on my Great Grandfather Sidney Nelosn, his parents were Hannon Nelson & Emma Gunnoe. His mother is the one that I simply cannot find any info on! It's like she didn't exist. Both parents were supposedly born Kanawha County, WV. I've been so obsessed with trying to find out about his mother that I haven't gotten much further than Thomas & Clarissa.

I have a picture of her and I have met her before in the late 70's at her home in seth before it was removed and a church was built on the spot. My grandmother told me that robert was the best of the sons.

HI is there anyone that can tell me exactly where the GEORGE HAGER cemetery is located in Hewett, Boone Co, WV?

In looking at all of the Hager Cemeteries in Boone Co, I cannot find any that are listed as Hewett, Boone Co. I checked the burial listings for each cemetery but the persons I am looking for, Lonnie Omer Bias 1899-196 and his wife Tina Marie (Dent) BIAS are not listed.

So I do not know if this specific George Hager Cemetery has NOT been entered onto FIND A GRAVE or if it is one of the one's already there????

Carlis Henry "Carl" Tackett, 56, of Chillicothe, Ohio died Saturday, December 22, 2012, at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born May 2, 1956 in Boone Co. WV to the late Carlos J. and Janice Lafferty Tackett.
On August 31, 1991 he married the former Theresa Anne Cole, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Daniel Tackett, Columbus, Ohio, Brian (Jennifer) Tackett, Logan, Jennifer (Dan) Hamblin, Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Samantha (Harold) Rodgers, Chillicothe, OH; grandchildren, Victoria Hritz, James Hamblin, Lillie Tackett, Katie Hamblin, Hannah Rodgers, Aiden Tackett and Jason Rodgers; brothers and sisters, Dwayne Tackett, Robin Taylor, Teresa Conley, Jerry Tackett, Sybil Baldwin and Robert Tackett; his mother-in-law, Bea Wooten; several nieces and nephews; many loving extended family members, including a special sister-in-law, Tina Reiland; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandmother, who raised him, Mildred "Minnie" Lafferty; and his father-in-law, James Wooten.

Mr. Tackett was a truck driver for the Ryder Company. He loved to fish, hunt, and the outdoors.
He also enjoyed his Ford F 150.
The family would like to thank Adena Hospice for their excellent care during his illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Thursday at the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
Friends may call 6-8 pm Wednesday at Haller's.

I am looking for any information on who the parents of May Barker were. From what I have found she was born somewhere around 1872- 1874. She married Melvin Blackburn Mullins (Mullens) in Boone County in 1899. They had a son, John Reginald Mullins.The marriage register states her father was John Barker and that she was from Boone County, West Virginia. I'm finding multiple John Barkers listed in the area at the time and am trying to find out who her parents where. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nelson Roberts lived at the time of the 1940 Census and I'm trying to establish relationship if any with him. Could this address also be called Rock Creek Road, off of Rt #3 at Foster, WV?
Any help on the address or Nelson Roberts would be appreciated. He was listed in Scott District on the census.

I can't help you with your sister either but I do know Ida Meadows lived in Prenter, West Virginia as did her son Dempsey Meadows. I did know Hughey also but I don't know where he lived. I believe they also had a brother named Russell. Dempsey had two daughters, Betty & Bonnie and Betty passed a way a few months ago.

Hello! My name is Aprill Harris. I am from Florida. I have been doing family research for years. Only recently did it dawn on me to begin researching my Grandfather's place of employment. My Mother was born and raised in Boone COunty, West Virginia. Her maiden name was Halstead. I discovered through her that my Grandfather, Ezra Halstead, worked at a coal mine named Red Dragon. In researching this I happened upon an inquiry from you for help on procurring a photo of Red Dragon Mine. I, to, am looking for any records and/or pictures of the mine. Just for information- my Mother's name is Lucille Halstead....but everyone knoew her as Willie. But to add to this.....I also work with a gal in our local Library by the name of Joan Combs...she is married to Douglas Combs. They are from Kentucky. I saw your maiden name and wondered if there was any connection. Also....another dynamic to this is that I believe there are sone Nichols in my family. I am not at my Family Treemaker to look right now but I am almost certain that we have some Nichols in our family.

Anyway, I saw your your inquiry and was excited and wanted to contact you. Who knows....maybe we're long lost cousins...haha
