Betty Lee Reed, 85, of Philippi, died Monday evening, July 7, 2008, at Broaddus Hospital following a sudden and unexpected illness.
She was born Aug. 24, 1922, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Ora Dillon and Geneva Pearl (Haller) Nestor.
On May 19, 1967, she was married to Charles Elvin "Getty" Reed, who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1995.
Surviving are two stepchildren, Pamela S. Franyutti of Philippi; Charles E. "Tuffy" Reed Jr. and wife, Karen, of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Francisco Franyutti, a student in Croatia, Andrea Franyutti of Philippi, Mike Reed and Scott Reed, both of Canton, Ohio; niece and nephews, Judy and Ralph Horton of Corfu, N.Y., and Ken Wells of Anaheim, Calif.; grandnieces, Kyle Marie Horton and Lisa Danielle Wells; and special friends, Kammie and David Dennis and family in Michigan and Tom Ware of Philippi.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Wells, and by one brother, Ora Calvin Nestor.
Mrs. Reed was a homemaker and a former cook and waitress. She, along with her mother, operated the Kines Lunch in Philippi for 15 years until it closed in 1966.
She attended the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home at 385 S. Main St., Philippi. The Rev. F. L. "Wink" McQuain will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9: a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, on Thursday.
