I am trying to find information on the Sellhart or Sellheart family. The name seems to be very uncommon. My connection is my 3-great grandmother Susan Sellhart born abt 1780-1790. She married John Hayden. They had a daughter Mary Hayden born 1811 in Washington Co, MD. Elizabeth Sellhart coud be her sister although I have no proof. She was born abt 1786 and married John Tritsch in 1808 in Washington Co, MD.

Need to add:

Once your grandmother's info in given, As Example...if she is found in the 1920 Census still in Yakima without him, then it would appear they separated in the first two years. The Superior Court for Yakima County could be checked for dissolution. OR, up to the time she has remarried, etc. Your info on where she lived would help identify a location for a dissolution decree.

The City Directories of Yakima (or where-ever she lived) would identify when they ceased to be living together. That would give a time-frame of his death/divorce/separation. A city directory (Polks) is an annually published listing of persons living in a populated area. The publications in 1918 forward could be checked for them together, previous issues to determine when they lived in Yakima, if they did. (But, with Irene living there, it gives credence that Della also did).

There are MANY volunteers in Yakima County on the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. But READ THE GUIDELINES FIRST. http://www.raogk.org/washingt4.htm Once information truly indicates they were living in Yakima, these people can help.

Ron Bestrom

The Washington State Digital Archives has the marriage certificate of Franklin Mahan, from the county of St. Louis, Missouri, marriage to Della Viola Johnson, on 25 March 1918 in Yakima. Witnesses were Irene W. Ross and Walter Lyon.
-----In the 1910 US Census is an Irene W. Ross, age 15, born in Washington, living in Olympia Ward 5, Thurston Co, WA, as daughter of E.W. Ross, age 34, born in Canada; and Willetta A, age 41, born in Minnesota. She had a brother Kenneth W, age 11, born in Oregon.
--- Irene W. Ross married George W. Sainsbury on 3/8/1919 in Yakima. Witnesses were Willetta Ross and Leo Sainsbury (Was hoping one of the witnesses was Della) The 1920 Census shows Irene and George "Lainshery" (as transcribed) living in Tacoma. WA.
So, this gives the "appearance" this person could be correct as she was living in Yakima in 1919, a year after the marriage of Della. So, they "could" have been friends, both living in Yakima. In the possibility they were related, I looked for her family tree, without success. But this person "Irene Willetta Ross" was born 11 Jul 1895 in Cowlitz County, to E.W. Ross and W.A. McCollum. They also might have been about the same age. NO PROOF HERE....
--The 1910 Census has a Walter Lyon, age 28, living in Yakima born in Iowa, married to Beulah, age 24, born in Missouri. They had a son Walter, age 4, but probably to young to be a witness. The family was still in Yakima in 1920. So, if the correct person, he "could" have been about the same age of Franklin, or someone he worked with. The World War I Draft Registration shows Walter, born 1881, was living in Yakima, working as a Laborer/Mechanic for the City of Yakima.
--** BUT, there is NO PROOF these are the correct persons serving as witnesses.

The time frame of 1918 is also during the period of World War I. Without speculating, that may or may not have come into play. But, married in March, the war ended in November. Once he is further identified, more research can be done on this aspect.
--The World War I Draft Registration in Yakima has:
Benjamin Frankin McMurry, born Dec 11, 1879, nearest relative is an "Ella" McMurry. The closest I could come to the names.

The other "poster" wrote:
> "there is a family tree for Lawrence Franklin "Fats" Mahan b. 1898, Missouri and d. 1960, MO."
-----This person married Lula Belle Jones in 1923 in Newton, Missouri.
Another shotgun miss.

It appears that this was a first marriage for your grandmother and it didn't last. So, what happened after the marriage probably isn't much, if any. BUT, for research, what information do you have on your grandmother. A bonifide researcher needs information such as her full date of birth, if you don't have that, a possible year, names of her parents, siblings, where she was born, where she lived, would seriously help in finding records. I'm assuming her maiden name was Johnson. What was her surname when she died?

As far as this marriage: I see the certificate was all typed, no signatures. This certificate "might" have had a spelling error in his name. He "could" have been McMahan, etc. So attempts to find him in the 1910 census, the World War I Draft Registration Card Image database, or the 1920 Census, might be difficult. It would be easier to track your Grandmother in 1910 and 1920 census, if you can provide information on her. (The 1910 Census had 765 Della Johnson's) THEN, she might be identified on the WWI draft card as the wife, if he registered in June 1918...."IF" they were still married.

A LOT of "If's". Please post what you know about her. Otherwise about all I can do.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

The Washington Death Certificates Index identified Wm. E. Posey, died 9 Nov 1929 in Mablin, Yakima County, WA, age 55 years 11 months 18 days, married to Elsie B. Posey. Father Green Harrison Posey, mother Mary Ann Wilkerson.

Here is a person's family tree including this family. He may or may not have additional information off of the tree:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/295492/person/-1035075182?ssr...=

The Social Security Death Index shows:
M. Posey, born 18 May 1906, died October 1983, Tacoma, WA, SSN 538-20-9368.

The Tacoma Library has a database of obituaries published in the Tacoma News Tribune:
http://search.tpl.lib.wa.us/obits/
The database shows:
Melvin H. Posey, died 4 October 1983, his obit was posted on 5 Oct 1983, page C-16.
Frank W. Posey, died 29 July 1965, his obit is posted on page P-24, 3 August 1965. (The "P", might just indicate "page" versus the "P" Section, the newspaper wasn't that large).
The other two Posey, may or may not be related.

The Tacoma Tribune has an online obituary page, but does not go back to 1983.

Request the obits (separately) via:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour (the staff has indicated they sometimes search longer) and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . Depending on the amount of requests, it could take up to a couple of weeks.
Provide the name of the newspaper, date, and the page number.

Ron Bestrom

I am happy to have a connection to the Yakima Remy Family. I have done extensive work on the Remy family and can tell you more, if you need it. This is part of what I have relating to Edward going back to his father and grandfather. I would like to keep in touch if possible. You can e-mail me direct at MRS6@aol.com and we can talk more. Thanks

Pierre Joseph Remy, b. June 12, 1832 in Belgium,
oldest of seven children of Henri Remy and his wife, Sophia LeJueine Remy. Sophia Remy died in 1887 in Belgium. His father, Henri owned a marble quarry.

When he was about 23 years old, Pierre, a glass blower, married Mary Joseph Richir about 1854. They also had seven children: Felician b. March 13, 1856.
Juliette b. 1858,
Edward b. 1860,
Mary b. 1862,
Peter Joseph b. 1865,
Julius b. 1870 and Esther b. 1872.

Mary Richir Remy died in 1874 in Belgium, leaving Pierre with seven children ranging in age from 18 to 2 years old.

Pierre Remy, came to America on December 18, 1879, aboard the Belgian ship “S.S. Vaderland” to New York. With him were six of his children: Juliette (21), Edward (19), Mary (17), Peter Joseph (14), Julius (9) and Esther (7). Pierre came directly to Kent, Ohio in Portage County, where he began work at the Day & Williams Glass Company.

The 1880 census of Portage County shows Pierre, age 49, working as a flattener, his son Edward, age 20 as a gatherer, and 15 year old Peter Joseph as a laborer. For five years, Pierre worked in Kent, until Day & Williams ended its business in 1885.

In 1882, at age 22, Pierre’s son Edward, left his father in Kent and went to New Albany, Indiana, on the Ohio River, where he worked as a glass blower at the Star Glass Factory. On January 16, 1883, Edward, 23 years old, married Mary Deeley, age 20, who was born in England. Their first child, Mary was born on Feb. 20, 1884, in New Albany.
Their 2nd daughter Alice was born in Rock Island, IL.on Apr. 20, 1886.
In 1889, a daughter Rosa was born, but died shortly after birth, and on Mar. 10, 1890, son Edward was born in Ottawa, IL.

In 1893 Edward and Mary, with three children: Mary (1884), Alice (1886) and Edward, Jr. (1890), together with his  father, Pierre, moved west to Yakima, Washington, to take up apple farming;

Edward’s children: Mary, Alice and Edward spent their life there in Yakima. Mary lived until the age of 86 years, but never married. Alice married Chester Miller and had a son Clifford in 1911 and a daughter Marjorie, born in 1915. I believe there was another daughte, Iris. (I had heard that Iris still lives in Yakima, but is very old and living in a nursing home.) Edward, Jr. married Helen Kimball and they had one son, Edward Jack, born in 1917 but died in 1924.

I also found that Edward's brother Peter married Esther Cooper, also from England, on October 21, 1890 in New Albany. Esther was the cousin of Mary Deeley.

I recently found out she passed away in 2004 in Nevada, but still need to know if she was married in WA to someone last name Meade. Maybe one day all that will surface! Again thank you for taking the time to write all the info.

The WA state library website is a very useful site, you should take a look at it. They have digital archives, old newspapers, and the ask a librarian service is very, very useful. I went on there to see if I could get some more exact dates to find Kenji and I did find his death in the digital archives.

His parents are Kinz Uyehara and Mutsu Murota. He died Nov. 7, 1959 in Spokane.

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/ViewRecord.aspx?RID=FE0B61...

Let me know if you need something else that you don't want to use the site for.
I couldn't find a Stella James in the death index that Yakima has, but that doesn't mean she didn't die in Yakima because the library doesn't have every death. I would try the ask a librarian service on the Washington State library site, they are very helpful and are good at finding death dates. http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx

I have his parents' names, and more info on the Deeley side back to 1761. I am interested in the descendants from this marriage, and any stories on how they both got to USA and became married.
And if there happens to be a Roger Mills and Dorothy Fink Mills in your lineage, that would be highly interesting too.

Hi there!
I was hoping you could find some information for me on Dr. William Henry Green (B: 13 Sep 1823 D: 10 Jul 1922). He was born in Dover, England but he dies in Yakima, Washington. His wife was Lodency Whitcomb and she also died in Yakima (B: 1847 D: 16 Mar 1936). He was in the Confederate Army and apparently his Army saddle bag is on display at the Tieton Pioneer museum in Yakima. I would love any paperwork or pictures that I can get my hands on to tie these folks to my great grandfather Leon Green who married Cora Bogue. I would be more then happy to pay for copies of anything you find. Please let me know!
Melissa

HI,
Sort of off your topic, but hopefully you will know:

Is the Pioneer Cemetery in viewable condition or was it completely washed out in the last storms?

My great grand mother Weddle is buried there. I would like

pictures of the headstone, marker, or whatever marks the grave. Is this possible?

Hi Allianne,
Your family doesn't appear in the Censuses or there are too many of them and I need more definitive info. Where and when were they born?
