Speaks English. Vising Nurse.

Each of the nuns had their last name, then first listed, place of their birth only, then the name they received when they took their vows. For this Elizabeth Young, it gives her name as Sister Mary Zita. Please note the enumeration states she was born about 1866 in Missouri.

Beth
not related

Hi Nancy,

I have taken a look at your posted family tree which includes Elizabeth YOUNG. I'm confused by a couple of things.

Your tree shows Mathias and wife Katerina with children, in order: Kate, John, Lena, Philip, E, Annie, Emma and Rosa. Where do you find Zita / Elizabeth in 1880? She is not with the rest of the family in Lewis County. At about age 16, she should be listed between Phillip and Annie. Where do you find her?

Are you quite certain that Elizabeth YOUNG, daughter of Matthias / Matthew of Lewis County, became a nun? Or that she didn't leave the order?

You posted that Elizabeth was born in Wisconsin, and I see her siblings just above and below her in age were also born in Wisconsin. Their parents were born in Germany.

1900 Agate, Lewis County, Washington State: Some of Elizabeth's family, including parents and brother Philip are enumerated. I don't find Elizabeth.

1910 Centralia, Lewis County, Washington State: I find Elizabeth's brother Philip, born Wisconsin, parents born Germany. I don't find Elizabeth in Lewis County under any name.

1920 Centralia, Lewis County, Washington State: I find an Elizabeth YOUNG, born about 1863 in Wisconsin, parents born in Germany, listed as boarder with a Livingstone family.

1930 Centralia, Lewis County, Elizabeth YOUNG, living as a boarder, born about 1863, single, born Wisconsin, parents born Germany.

Your YOUNG family can be found in Lewis County census records as early as 1883, found in the Washington State Digital Archives:

http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/

They also list a "Sister ZITA", under the last name of ZITA, in the 1883 King County census living with a YOUNG family. This Sister Zita is listed as born in Washington Territory in about 1866. I know you wrote she took her vows in 1900, but the similarities in name, birth year and the fact this person is living with a family named Young is quite striking.

Here is the link for the Washington State Catholic Archdiocese. You may be able to write to them for death and burial information.

http://www.adw.org/home.asp

Here is also the link to the volunteer-run Whitman County genweb project, which includes cemetery resources in their many listings:

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/wa/county/whitman/

Beth
not related

The 1900 Census Vancouver, Clark County, WA
House of Providence
Sister Zita, 10/1863, born in Wisconsin to both parents born in Germany, no position identified

I find several Sacred Heart Academy's, most records show the one in Conneticutt.

I ran the 1911 census of Quebec and found several "Sister" but not a Zita.

For the 1930 Census, District 27, Colton, Whitman County, WA
The St. Scholastic Boarding School
Sister Zita, servant, age 61, born in Germany to both parents born in Germany, she immigrated in 1894. She was a gardner.
--This person does not look to be the same person as in 1900. The one in 1900 was born in Wisconsin. This one in Germany and immigrated long after the one in the 1900 was born.

You identified she was one of your ancestors, was this a direct line? Or, just a sister of the direct line. Is there any additional information on her? Was she born "Young", or married name?
I do find an Elizabeth Young, age 46, born in Wisconsin to both parents born in Germany, she was a widower. She was living in Chicago, Cook County. This person had a daughter Mae, age 23, born in Illinois, to father born in Texas. This person matches some basic criteria; but there is nothing to indicate this IS the correct person, unless you have more information.

Ron Bestrom
The latest date for children is 2002, and so I would like any information around 2000 and later. There may have been some deaths in the meantime also. Thanks for any help. Ken

I am the great grandson of Phillip and Sarah Davis. Some of the information listed is not correct. My grandfather was William and his brother was Josh married to Nellie. Their son was George, who I spent summers with at the ranch at Colfax. This was Phillip's second marriage so that some of the relatives listed in Wales were related to Phillip and not Sarah. The ranch land is now part of a larger tract. Other decadents were Johnny, Archie, Edward, Donald, Wanneta,

I'm researching my ancestor Sister Zita (Elizabeth Young born 1863 in Wisconsin) a Catholic nun. She became a nun in 1900 at House of Providence, Vancouver City, WA. I have her listed off the 1880 & 1900 census records. I believe she went to the Sacred Heart Academy in Montreal, Canada, I'm not sure I can get a census from there. Next she shows up in the 1930 census Sister Zita age 63 at Sebastian Boarding School. If she died in Colton, WA where would she be buried and to what church would she have been associated with? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You Nancy

Hello,

I have been researching Orville Stewart's life for some time. Presently, I am trying to locate his photograph. Do you have one or know of anyone who might? May I ask about your interest in Orville and Marcia Stewart? Are you a Stewart relative to him and want his history for genealogical reasons? I'll be glad to hear from you. Thanks, Robert King

When you post, it is very important that you post SPECIFIC information on a SPECIFIC family member, otherwise, most readers will ignore your posting. You are far more likely to have a researcher find your posting than a family member. Give full names, date of births, places of birth, etc. Here is a website that gives some pointers in posting:

http://www.tedpack.org/goodpost.html

When you post an inquiry, it is very important to identify just exactly what you are seeking. Microfilm copies of the Herald for that long period of time...or the specific date of an obituary for which you wish to compare.

Since this appears to be date specific:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . Depending on the amount of requests, it could take up to a couple of weeks.
-If interested you can look at the catalog of holdings at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/microfilm.aspx (This will tell you what microfilms are available. You could order a specific microfilm via the library loan program).

Ron Bestrom
This site identifies its location.
http://www.mrail.net/data/cemete/wash/whitman/butts/index.ht...

First, go to:
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
Click on "Search Land Patents"
Enter you Zip Code
Enter State of Washington, Last Name "Butts", First Name "George" hit search.
Click on George W. Butts' name. You'll see he had 160 Acres.
Go to the tab for Legal Land Description.
His land was in (write this down or keep available):
Range 41 East, Township 20 North, Section 10, SW part.

Now go to: http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html
Change the State to Washington and enter in the above information and submit. The next window shows information about that location.
Now in the middle of the window, click on "Switch to Terra Server".

In this next window, click on the largest blue box for size, and change Aerial Photo to Topo Map.

In this topographic map you'll see small red squares. These are sections. Each section contains 640 acres of land.

Looking at the map, you'll see Rock Lake on the right side. There is a dark dotted line across about the lower third of the map, that is the county line. You'll see in black the words "Hole in the Ground". Above that are three "Spring" in Green. In the middle of the red block where it says "Spring", one block up and one to the left, left click in that block with your cursor. Now slide the map over and left click again in the same block. You will now see this red block with four red "10". You'll see the word gravel pit in the center. This is Section 10 where the Butts land was located. Now, divide this red block in half both vertically and horizontally. Now, put your attention to the bottom left of that divided block. That is the SW Corner. His 160 acres of land was in that area. There is nothing on the map to indicate a location of a cemetery; but that is where the land was located.

Yes, that is a brother to my g. granfather. I have that info. Trying to see if there is a male descendant for a DNA test in that area. I know he had sons.
Also looking for the McCabe lady who owned a grocery store in Roselia. She sold it. Want to know if she has died, as she was elderly when I met her. Trying to find out if she is related to Wm.

With The Colors From Whitman County, Washington U.S.A. 1917 1918 1919

I inherited an old book titled With The Colors From Whitman County, Washington U.S.A. 1917 1918 1919 Published By Lou E. Wenham, Pullman, Washington and copyrighted in 1920. An inside title page describes the book. "An Honor Roll Containing a Pictorial Record of the loyal and patriotic men from Whitman County, Washington, U. S. A., who served in the World War 1917 - 1918 - 1919." It also contains portraits of women who helped in the war effort. It has most of the portraits of the individuals and lists the individuals that they could not obtain the service record or photograph of. It often lists the causes, dates, and locations of thier deaths and the dates of their births. The names of thier parents are also listed.

I am willing to do look-ups for anyone who may have had an ancestor from Whitman County, Washington serve or die while in service during World War I. I am also willing to do scans of thier photographs. I know how wonderful it can be to find a picture of an ancestor.

Regards,

Jacqueline

Note: It not only has the information and photographs of those that died in Word War I but also of those who were discharged and the men and women who supported the war effort at home.
