Elizabeth was my wonderful grandmother. She had a very important hand in raising me from the time I was around 12 years on up. She was a gloriously regal woman with classic taste and a rip-roaring sense of humor. She was extremely loving to man and animal, with her brood of kids and many four leggers. She was born in England in 1923. Her given name was Edith Elizabeth Ford. She was a "war bride", marrying my grandfather , Edward Benekritis, during WWII in England. He was in the Royal Canadian Air Force and brought my grandma and their first born daughter, Alexandra, (my mother) over by ship. In Canada they had 3 more children, David, John and Thomas. Elizabeth was the baby of her family and her family desperately missed her when she came over to Canada. All her siblings have now since passed away. Her siblings were sister Enid who died during the war, in child birth. Her beloved big brother Thomas and best friend and big sister Deeda (Frieda Jones). I believe she had another sibling that died very young, but not sure. My grandparents moved to Detroit and worked there until retirement age. My grama did paralegal work for a Detroit law firm. She is forever in my heart and memories and is greatly missed by me and all those that adored her.
