This couple were living in Puget Island in the 1930 census. He was a fisherman. They had 7 children, Frank 1922,Carl A 1919,Leif R. 1915,Erling 1912, Thelma, 191?,Margrethe?, Edith E. 1928

Eulalia went by the name Ella then, and he as Ole. Anyone knowing this family, or any information on marriages, deaths, etc, will be greatly appreciated.

All these Kaups originate from Heinrich and Gertrude (Drueke) Kaup who moved from my hometown in Nebraska to Cathlamet, WA.

Hi I am looking for any information that any one might have on Andrew & Emma Pernula, my grandparents. They had 8 children, Esther, Anna, Wilfred, Lester, Helen, Frans, Harold & Howard (Ted).
My grandfather was a locomotive engineer in the logging camps. He was born in Hailuoto Finland. They had lived at Millers Point at one time. I also have a lot of old photos from that area with some names on some of them that were friends of the Pernula children. Also a lot without names. My grandmothers maiden name was Witikka.

I have found Carl listed on the WW1 Civilian Draft Registrations. He then lived in Ketchikan Alaska. I have pictures from his wedding taken by a photographer in Seattle, WA. Carl worked in a company named Pacific American Fisheries, in KASAAN, Alaska in 1937
The whole family are listed in the 1920 Census for ALASKA (Karl C. Holmberg)
This is all I know about Carl and his family and I have not been able to dig up any new info in a long time. WHO CAN HELP ME COME FURTHER?? One of Carls sisters in Norway got 13 children and two are still living, they desperately want to know what became of their uncle and his children, but time is running out. ANY information will be VERY MUCH appreciated.

I found a reference to a Bradley Logging Co out of Wahkiakum County. It operated as B L Co from 1908 to 1923 (I believe – from the steaminthewoods.com web site).

I have a building in Richmond Beach (Shoreline) WA and the fir shiplap boards are marked B L Co. Did the logging company also operate a mill?

I'm searching for information about my lost father, Ellis Rull Bacon. His mother, Christine Myren (not sure) lived with her brother Leo, on a farm at a place called Deep River in the 50's. It's been said she died in a rest home in Cathlamet, WA. My grandfather's name was Charles Bacon.

It has also been said that my father went by the last name of Olsen, until age 19, when he found out he was a Bacon. He apparently didn't have a birth cirtificate - only a baptism card.

I've been researching my missing father for about 20 years. I'd sure like a clue or two. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

It is about the postal service and the first postmasters of different towns in these two counties.

My daughter knows I get old photos and try to place them. So she got one from a neighbor. It is a postcard

On one side is a photo of a young man and woman and two cats. They are outside of a house, but lots of open space in background. Can see another house maybe a 1/4 mile away.

On other side is note signed by Mrs Will Klinksiet. the way it is worded appears to be photo of the Klinksiet couple. She gives their adddress as 173 E 80th St N.
It is addressed to Mr & Mrs Errp Grays River Wash.
Postmark is Nov 13, 1912 Portland

Have looked for that surname, not many with that name.

Any help with that name?

Funeral services for Mrs. Nekolena Magdelene Vog, aged 88, who died in Portland Friday, August 18, were held Monday at one o'clock in the Lutheran Free Church. Rev. Ernest Raaum of Portland officiated, assisted by Rev. O.P. Grambo of Kelso. Mrs. Ray Bowman was soloist and Mrs. Andrew Shold, organist. Mrs. Vog was born in Vik Hedgeland, Norway, May 23, 1856. She came to the United States 35 years ago, 23 of which she spent on Puget Island. Twelve years ago she went to Portland to live with her granddaughters, Mrs. Magdalene Stewart and Mrs. Ella Chinn. Other relative surviving are a nephew, Hartwig Hansen, of Wisconsin, and Mrs. Albertine Olsen, Puget Island. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery, Cathlamet. Pallbearers were Jonas Pedersen, Antone Olsen, Christ Jacobsei, Dan Danielsen, Nels Rodal and John Ronning.

Cynthia Gates Drowns in the Columbia River off Cathlamet

My fourth great grandmother Cynthia Gates fell off the Cathlamet Ferry and drowned in the Columbia River on 14 Jun 1874. Along with her a 12 year old boy drowned at the same time.

Does anyone know if any newspaper was in operation at the time that might have posted the obituaries?

Cynthia was the wife of Thomas Gates and they lived in Cathlametat the time of her death. I can not find what cemetery Cynthia and Thomas are buried in. Any help will be quite appreciated!

Looking for information on Sven and Bertha Serina (Johnson) SVENSEN and their family. Bertha Serina (maybe Serena) JOHNSON was my Great Aunt. Their children were Sidney, Garda (or Gerda), Olga, and Selma. Sven was a
professional fisherman on the Columbia in early 1900's and at one time had a boat named "Serina." They later may have raised peppermint. Family "history" says they owned an Island. Sven was a charter member of the Trinty Free
Church at Welcome Slough on Puget Island. Not sure if they lived on Puget Island or in Westport,OR. Sven died in late 1932 or 33, Bertha Serina probably late 1930's. Their daughters married names were: Mrs. E.M.JOHNSON
and Mrs. P.T.SHERMAN (both of Puget Island at time of Sven"s death); Mrs. John VOG of Portland (at time of Sven's death).

Interested in when and where Sven and Bertha were married, where they actually lived and any info on his
lively hood, where they and children are buried (Sven's obituary says he was buried in Westport Cemetery) and if there are any known living descendants who might be interested in learning something about their Iowa (Fayette
County) relations. I have two family portraits of the Svensen family (1900-1910) plus a postcard picture of his boat "Serina," which I'd be willing to make copies of at cost for any descendant or organization
interested.

Edmund B. Sires was born in Charleston, SC in November, 1877 and moved to Macon, GA with his mother, father and siblings in the early to mid 1890's. He left Macon by 1901. The last record of Edmund B. Sires that I have been able to find is as a survivor in my grandfather's obituary (2/27/1945). Edmund is listed as Col. E. B. Sires residing in Ocean Park, WA at that time.

Anson Abyram Adams born 1817, Belmont, New York, he
married Mary Augusta (Applebee), resident of Winlock, WA, in 1879. They had a son: OLE ADAMS born 1887 also in Winlock, WA.
OLE changed his name to ORIN ADAMS before he died.
He is buried in the Fern Hill Cemetery, in Wahkiakum County, he is buried under the name Orin Adams.
I do not have a date of death for Ole.

Does anyone know this family? Clara`s parents were born in Norway and emigrated to Seattle,WA in 1904 where Clara was born as number 4 of 5 children. The Holmberg family moved to Ketchikan, Alaska in 1912. Her parents names were Carl Holmberg and Georgine Olsen.

Charles Martinson is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet, along with his wife Anna D. and their son Clarence. Charles died in 1929, Anna D. in 1949 and son Clarence in 1909. Is their anyone who can take a picture of their headstones for me? I would be happy to compensate.

I am an amature genealogist and have done quite a lot of research on my family in Wahkiakum County. In 1879 The first member came to Skamokawa and settled in east valley. The BJORNSGAARD line. I would like to find the descendents of the family of Irvin Hodgson who died in Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County, Washington in 1998 at the age of 94. Irvin's father was Earl Hodgson and his mother was Mary Fisher. The family was originally from Pennsylvania. Other children of Earl and Mary Hodgson were Dicky Ward (1906), Dorsey Dwight (1908), Gordon, Shirley, and Willard. Some or all of them may have settled in the same area. They came to skamokawa, 1879, the Bjornsgaards arrived, Christen Barnhard and Agnetta. The settled a Doncation Landclaim, or by then Homestead. In East Valley they lived and Raised their family. Their first son born 1880, Barnhard Christen. Those who followed were Engwal, Oscar, Marcus, Enoch (died at 18 months of whooping cough) and Esther. They build a prosperous farm where the family raise many animals they shipped to market from the river to Astoria, their crops were potatoes and Hay.

Bessie Olson

Hi Don,
I showed your posting to a friend of mine, she said she knew both Bessie and Holcomb. The wave you are talking about happened when Bradley Mt. (elevation about 650 feet), had a mudslide. The impact of the hillside sliding into the Columbia River caused the wave. Bessie's house was located outside the dike, on the lower end of the island, near Aegeater's Dairy Farm. Her house landed inside the dike, and was tossed around abit. Bessie was an elderly lady, and was asleep in bed when this happened. I don't know anything about Holcomb, but will do some research on this incident for you if needed.

I'm looking for a Bessie OLSON who lived on Puget Island in 1964 during the historical flood. A tidal wave of sorts washed her house part of a mile down and she was taken for a ride in it but was injured. She was lucky to have survived because her next door neighbor, Mr. Holcomb GABRIELSON (age 45 at the time in December 1964) died from it.

If anyone has any information on any Bessie Olson's at all from either the Oregon or Washington state areas, I would be so grateful...anything at all, no matter how minor...

Looking for information on any Berg families in the Skamokawa area. My ggrandparents lived there briefly in the mid1880's. They were John Johnson Berg with wife Effie Berg. They had a daughter Leavy Oliva born in Wisconsin and a daughter Laura born in Skamokawa. The family moved on to Lacenter Washington in Clark Co. I believe they originally came to Skamokawa because family members were already there. Anyone out there know of these people? Alice

Skamokawa (Wahkiakum County) homemaker Margaret E. Goble of 628 E. Valley Road, died March 14, 1987, in Tacoma. She was 79.

She was born Oct. 4, 1907, at Ferndale, Calif., and had lived in Skamokawa for the past 19 years, coming from Warden, Wash.

Mrs. Goble is survived by two daughters, Nancy Suko of Gig Harbor and Marcia Kegel of Weatherford, Texas; three sisters, Madelon Moore of Eureka, Calif., Dora Banson of Dayton, Ore., and Guyann Malone of Arcadia, Calif.; a brother, Mark Bugbee of Ferndale; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Free Church on Puget Island, with Pastor Mark Suko officiating.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dowling Funeral Home in Cathlamet.

I am helping a gentleman who was born in Wahkiakum Co. His birthparents were Ray Marvin Kimball and a Mary Enid Gaither/Garthen(?). He is wanting to find some family information if he can. He was born in 1939 and he had a sister that was born in 1937 but she too was adopted out to a different family and it would be nice if some how we could find her while doing this.

the founder of Cathlamet. My ancestor Thomas LOWE (1824-1912), a clerk with
the Hudson Bay Company, married James BIRNIE's daughter, Rose BIRNIE
(1830-1850). I know that at one time Thomas LOWE himself owned land in
Cathlamet. I should be grateful for any information about this pioneer
family & about the early days of the Cathlamet settlement. I am also seeking
information about the date & place of Thomas LOWE's marriage to Rose BIRNIE,
which was probably in May 1849. Family Search gives the place as Stella
Maris Mission, WA. Can anyone tell me where that was?

I'm searching for information on the Shields Family. George Shields, born late 1800's. Wife Sherry (maiden name Gilbert) Shields, born 01/02/1898. I (think) at the time of their marriage they lived in Arizona. George & Sherry had at least one son. Michael Donald Shields, born apx. 1931. George died at an early age (year unknown). Sherry remarried changing her last name to Caston. Sherry died in Seattle, WA. on 06/05/74. Michael Donald Shields would now be in his 70's. (Could he be living in Wahkiakum County?)

Searching for information about the B.A.BORREVIK family known to be in Wahkiakum County perhpas as early as 1890 when he is listed as being one of the first ministers
of the Puget Island orthodox Presbyterian Church. He is also listed as being a co-pastor with a Reverand Stavney from 1917-1919. B.A. (Bernt)Borrevik's wife was Marie Stavney. Family stories say they came from Norway.
