Hello,
I descend Dudley Crook and his wife Violet of Surry Co, who migrated to Avery's Creek, Buncombe Co., NC. Their children(those who have been documented are:1) John abt 1793(my line, his son John, son George W, my grandfather: 2)Joseph, 3)Sampson and 4) James Madison. I firmly believe they had daughters but hard to prove. Dudley & Violet were listed on the 1850 C for Avery's Creek, Buncombe Co.NC and Joseph and Mary Jane were living next door to his parents. Their children: Elizabeth abt 1838, Newton abt 1840, Marion S. abt 1842, Mary G abt 1844, William abt 1848, Nancy abt 1846, Joseph abt 1848 and Enoch May 1850. They disappear from Buncombe Co., NC until I find them in Dickinson KS. I find the son of Joseph in Nebraska, married to Hannah unkn with daughter Carrie C b Mar 1880. Then I found someone who had submitted information to Rootsweb.com Latta's Branch 13, who descends from Carrie, who married Arthur Clarence Latta and had a son Raymond. This person listed all of Joseph and Hannah's children. Still tracing. There is much information listed on Rootsweb.com for Dudley and Violet. Hope this helps and let us correspond and see if we can gather all information on all the children of each generation.

*I have been researching the Crook family for over 30 years and there is still much more to do. I am happy to see someone who is also related.

Thanks
Jean Dixon-Anker

Hi Jean, what are the names, birth dates and places of the Crook's in WA that you are trying to find? I need more definite information to have a place to start in WA state.

Or maybe you meant to post on the Crook Surname Board? Not related but willing to help.

Jean,

I found some information that should get you started.

For the Washington Deaths, you can request an obituary:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx .

Jean,

I looked at your other postings

The 1900 Census for Springdale, Stevens County, WA, enumerated 11/12 June
--Joseph D. Crook, born October 1849 in North Carolina to both parents born in North Carolina, farmer, owned his farm, married 21 years
--Hanah (as spelled by the enumerator), born October 1856 in Canada to father born in Ireland, mother in Canada, mother of 5, 5 living.
--Carry Latta, daughter, born Mar 1880, born in Nebraska, 3 years, mother of 1, 1 living. Divorced.
John Westly Crook, born May 1884 in S. Dakota (spelled as Dacota)
La(inkspot)ila May, dauhter, born May 1886 in Washington
W?(inkspot)n Harry, born April 1888 in Washington
Joseph O. born Sept 1890 in Washington.
----Note: Carry was 20, married 3 years with one child; but the child wasn't on this page.

Also enumerated:
The 1900 Census for Spring Valley, Stevens County, enumerated 21 July
Joseph Crook, born Oct 1850 in North Carolina to both parents born in NC, farmer owned his land, married 21 years
Hannah, born Oct 1857 in Canada, immigrated in 1876
John W, son, born march 1883 in South Dakota
Milo M. born May 1886 in Washington
William H, born Nov 1887 in WA
Joseph O, born Sep 1891 in WA
Carrie Latta (also appears to be spelled Satta), born March 1880 in Nebraska
Raymond E. born Sept 1888 in Washington
--although the year of birth for Joseph and Hannah were different by one year from the previous enumeration, this is a common enumerator mistake in subtraction.
--it is not unusual to find the same family enumerated twice during a census.

The 1910 Census for Hunters, Stevens County, WA
Hannah Crook, age 62, born in Canada
Harry W, age 21
Olive J. son, 18
Raymond E. Latta, age 11.

The 1920 Census for Hillyard, Spokane County
Hannah Crook, age 62, born in Canada, immigrated 1876
Wm Harry, 31, locomotive fireman.

The 1930 Census for Spokane
Joseph O. Crook, age 38 to father born in North Carolina
Leora B, age 35, born in Iowa
James, age 7
Fred age 7
--also
William H, age 41 to father born in North Carolina
Isabel M, age 33
--also
W. Crook, born in South Dakota to father born in N. Carolina

The Washington Death Certificate Index:
-William Harry Crook, died 17 January 1953 in Spokane, WA at age 64. Son of Joseph Crook and Hannah Hopper.
-John Wesley Crook died 12 August 1948 in Spoikane at age 65 years 3 months and 13 days (1883). Son of Joseph D. Crook and Hanna Hopper
-Hanna Crook died 27 Mar 1923 at age 65 years, 5 months and 20 days. Father was Wm Houper and Dorothy Ferrell
---the spelling of names in Death Certificates, and even the dates of birth are sometimes wrong as the person giving the information did not know for accuracy

For the Latta Family, I'm hoping you obtain information from the person that had posted to Rootsweb.

Shotgun,

As suggested previously... Read her other postings. She DID post to the Crook Surname Board.

As far as THIS posting, it was in the Stevens County Board...Thus, that is where I searched and found the names identified in her posting were in Stevens County.

Two years now?

Hello Ron,

Thank you so much for the information you checked on and sent me. I am excited to receive this much which includes death dates.

I have some of the census records but no all. It is hard doing research from Florida and I really appreciate all the care and work that went into answering my query.

Again THANKS and have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
Jean Dixon
