I'm "assuming" you have reviewed US Census data ?
The 1900 Census for Chewelah, identifies he was born in Canada to both parents born in Pennsylvania. His birthdate is written Oct 184? (either a 1 or 7), age 52...so I would suspect the 1841 is probably 1847.
He had been married to Amanda for 13 years by that time. She was born in Iowa. She was mother of 6, 6 living. The oldest shown was 10, born in Nebraska; next son was 7, born in Wyoming; daughter 5 born in Idaho; and, daughter 2, born in Wyoming. So, it appears he hadn't been in Washington very long.
The 1880 census for Pleasant Grove, Floyd County, Iowa
Amanda Shannon, age 18 (1851/52), born in Iowa to both parents born in New York, servant in the home of George Lambert.
--Amanda is the only Shannon in Pleasant Grove. There are 39 Shannon's in Floyd County. None have husband/wife both born in New York. Pleasant Grove is an area in Floyd County almost in a straight line between Charles City and Greene, just a bit North and Northwest from Powersville.
--If this is his wife, sometime between 1880 and 1886/87 they married.
--I couldn't find her in the 1870 census.
I couldn't find him in the 1870, which isn't that important since the 1900 said he didn't immigrate until 1870. But, I didn't find him in the 1880. "IF" as indicated both parents were born in PA, then perhaps his father went to Canada for land, many did, including some of my family. But, the western land grant data doesn't show that far back to his birth era. He's a difficult one...
I have identified two family trees that have James Henry Kendrick included.
1. Owner: Flowerlady145, identified him as being born Oct 1841 in Canada, mother Susan McDonald. Tree identified his three spouses (but all identified as being Amanda Blanche Shannon 1862-1923) and 13 children (duplication on some). She identifies Susan as born in Canada.
2. Owner: JoeSheridan66, identified his mother, spouse Amanda and six of his children. He shows birth in Oct 1841. Marriage to Amanda in 1888 in Springfield, NY. Shows Susan as born in 1820
