CARSON BOY KILLED IN VIETNAM
Kenneth
Grubb, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Grubb of
Carson, Wash., was killed by a boiler explosion while on duty on the U.S.S. King, a
Navy ship, in the Gulf of
Tonkin on May 23rd.
He was a nephew of Mrs. W.O. Gribner are and Jack
Grubb of
Laurel.
Boilerman 2/c Kenneth W. Grubb was born April 11, 1946. He spent his boyhood around
Beacon Rock and Skamania in
Skamania County, Wash. He attended grade school in Skamania and high school at
Stevenson.
Kenneth enlisted in the
Navy in February 1966. After boot training he served aboard the carrier-escort, U.S.S. Preble until August 1968. He was then transferred to the guided missile frigate, U.S.S. King.
He shipped out of
San Diego late in February of this year on his third tour of duty in the South China Sea. It was to be his last tour before discharge from the
Navy.
Last February he was married to the former Judith
Leach, a former resident of North
Bonneville, Wash.
Grubb was one of four sailors to lose his life in a boilerroom explosion and fire aboard ship at May 23, 1969, while on duty in the Gulf of
Tonkin.
Survivors include his wife, Judith, three small step-children in Centralia, Wash.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Grubb of
Rochester, Wash.; three brothers, Larry, U.S. Navy,
San Diego,
Calif., Ernest and James at
Rochester, Wash.; three sisters, Sandra and Nancy in
Rochester, and Mrs. William (Judy) Neblock, Netarts,
Ore.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 6, at one o'clock in the Lutheran Church at
Stevenson, Wash. Graveside rites and committal will be Saturday, June 7, at Chehalis, Wash.
