DEATH
SUMMONS WIFE OF MAN WHO NAMED
STEVENSONMrs. Minnie
STEVENSON, 86, widow of John
Morman STEVENSON who with his brother George laid out the townsite of
STEVENSON and gave it their family name, died Jan. 25 in
Oakland,
Calif. Her husband died in 1917. She moved to
California in 1932.
Mrs. Stevenson was the daughter of Samuel
Jones, Supt. of the old
Portage Railroad which ceased operation after it was washed out by the high waters of 1894.
She was the granddaughter of Jason
Hamilton who staked out the donation line claim west of North
Bonneville and gave his name to the old
Hamilton Landing,
Hamilton Creek and
Hamilton Mountain.
Her father and grandfather both served in the
Washington State Legislature as senators and representatives.
