Can anyone help me find a copy of a Skagit County obituary for Addison F. Stowe? He died in Sedro Woolley on March 4, 1944 and was the son of Cyrus E. Stowe and Hannah M. (Hooper) Stowe. Addison was born in Lamartine, Fond du Lac County, WI somewhere between 1857 and 1859. I don't need his actual death certificate but I'm hoping an obituary might mention his siblings by name. I'm trying to establish that Addison and his sister Amelia were born to the same father.

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks
Kate Frazier

When you post, it is important to provide basic search criteria. What was your father's name, when was he born, where was he born? What additional information do you have on him? Who was his wife, her parents, etc. There might not be ANY information on him in the State of Washington.

The Washington Death Index identifies that Carl Coggins died on 13 March 1981 in Mt Vernon, was born about 1917.

The Social Security Death Index identifies he was born 20 May 1916, "last residence:" Concrete, Skagit County, WA. The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT necessarily where a person actually lived or died. Concrete is a very small town. Originally named Cement for the Portland Cement Mill.

The US Dept of Veteran Affairs identifies Carl born 20 MAY 1916, died 13 March 1981, was in the US Army from 16 July 1941 to 23 Oct 1945.

There are a number of family trees containing Carl. He was born 20 May 1916 in Cocke County, Tennessee to Malcom Coggins and Sarah Mirinda Messer. In the 1920 Census he was in Hartford, Cocke Co, TN. In 1930, in District 30, Cocke County. He was married twice. One to Allie Mae Stokely born 10 Feb 1923 in Cocke Co, died 4 Aug 2006 in Newport, Cocke Co, TN. None of the trees identify children except by "private" indicating they may still be living.

One source "indicates" he married a Helen Mouisdale on 28 Feb 1948 in Elkton, Maryland.

Very little is known about Carl after the 1930 US Census. There is no information on ANY children. His obituary "might" identify information on his family; but based on the limited amount of information, there might not be an obituary.

So his children may have different mothers.

He was married 29 May 1946 in Seattle, King Co, Washington to Hazel E Dodson.

He was married 21 Feb 1960 in Imperial, Calfornia to Barbara B Smith.

There was one wife prior to Hazel with a child born in about 1944, his name is Don.

I am looking for anyone who has any information in regards to Donald Lorenzo Hatch, and any children he may have had along the way. I found some birth notices for a Mrs. Donald Hatch in WA, that listed addresses, no names.

Through the City Directories on Ancestry.com I was found the two of the 3 birth announcements in the Seattle Times matched another Donald Hatch with middle initial "D" Wrong Donald Hatch.

Looking forward to hearing back from anyone with information, clues, and suggestions!

Thank you very much!
Kim Hatch-Jorgensen
4jorg@comcast.net

I don't know if there were city directories for Sedro Wooley in that time period, but if there were, the local library should have copies. Scroll down to the bottom of this link, there is a link to contact the librarian. They wre usually willing to do a short search.
http://www.ci.sedro-woolley.wa.us/Library/main.htm

You should also ask for a lookup in the Bellingham directories.

This link has death notices for Clemens wife Alida and his son Herbert
http://wagenweb.org/whatcom/wgsobits/deathsno_ny.htm

Obituary for grandson of Clemens and Alida
http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=...

Hi, and thanks! My maternal grandmother and your grandfather James Dewey SMith were first cousins. WIth your info, I have found the following info...if I have the right people. Let me know if I have this correct so far. Clara Hilda "Dorothy" Dubuque was born April 30, 1900 to Nelson and Clara (Harrier) Dubuque. A twin brother was also born, Clarence Nelson Dubuque but it doesnt seem that he lived beyond 1910. THere were several other siblings. Dorothy doesn't seem to be her birth name but a nickname or a name used by the 1910 census. I cannot find any marriage record in Washington. Do you know if they were married or lived elsewhere? My aunt Margaret (Kamb) Sullivan did a family genealogy book (before computers) and did not have much info about your family. She did list that James and Dorothy had an adopted daughter named Judy but listed her birth as 1925 with is apparantly a mistake. Your info would be great to add to the tree I am building. Did you grow up near Mt. Vernon and did you know any of the other Smiths or Kambs of the family? I was born in 1954 to Harriet (Kamb) and Bill Massar and grew up in Mt Vernon. I now live in Chico CA. Do you have pics of your grandparents you would be willing to email to me? ALso feel free to look thru the tree I have built. I have lots of pics and info. Thanks so much for your response.
Kathie

Hi. I descend from Thomas Smith-Harriet Smith Kamb-Harriet Kamb Massar. I just noticed these postings and am wondering if you can fill in a blank I have. What info can you give me about your parents. The info I have about your grandfather is that his wife was Dorothy "Dottie", but I dont know her maiden name or when they married. Also the info I have indicates that they only had one child Judy. How accurate is this? My aunt Margaret Kamb Sullivan did all of her research years ago (before computers). I think that may make us cousins of some degree. Im happy to "meet" you. Thanks.

When you post, provide more information about the actual person you seek. It "appears" you are looking for Margaret Gustafson, married to William Albert Owens, remarried to Schulz, died in 1998 in Nevada. Your family tree data appears you have found the correct person.
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7544337/person/6002714082
The Margaret J Owens in Burlington that died in 2005 did not have children.

The Social Security Death Index:
Margaret J. Owens, born 15 Sep 1916, died 9 June 2005. "Last Residence:" Burlington, Skagit County, WA.

Margaret is buried in the Green Hills Memorial Cemetery, Burlington. Her marker identifies her as "Beloved Wife, Sister and Aunt" but not as being "Mother."

The Skagit County Recorder has one recorded document in this persons name: A Quit Claim Deed, recorded April 8, 1999, wherein Margaret J. Owens, Surviving Trustor/Trustee, quit claimed property from the William O. Owens Trust dated January 20, 1998. Tax Parcel #340307-0-058-0018 and 34040700-058-0208. After recording the document was to be returned to Owens at 686 McCorquedale Road, Burlington, WA.

Your Allan/Sigler/et.al. family tree shows a William Albert Owens that had married a Margaret Jean Gustafson and had a son "Danne." If this is the Margaret you seek, this person above appears to be the wrong one. Your tree shows William born/died in Tacoma, WA. It also shows Margaret born in Tacoma, died in Las Vegas, NV in 1998. So it appears you have found your correct person.

Her obituary from the Tacoma Tribune:
Margaret Jean Schulz 2/14/20 - 8/9/98
Margaret Jean Schulz, 78, died August 9, 1998 in a Las Vegas hospital after a brief illness. Jean was a retired City of Tacoma employee and had lived all of her life in Tacoma until moving to southern Nevada in 1996 to be near her children. She is survived by a brother, Dick Gustafson (Sharon), and sister, Carol Smalling (Lynn), of Tacoma. Her loving children, Maureen Moser (Ross), Sharon Sheppard (Ellis) and Pat O'Malley (Sheila) of southern Nevada, will miss her deeply, as will her many friends and family, including 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial is planned in Tacoma in October. The family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association in Jean's memory. Arrangements by Neptune Society of Nye County, NV. (702) 727-1888.
Pub Date: 8/12/1998
Re: Emma Lee Holden Bell

Julia,

I see this is your first posting (at least under this user name). For this search, as a normal suggestion for genealogy, begins with your immediate family. Your first "interviews" would be of your parents, other siblings, and then other aunts or uncles. Based on the year of marriage (1948), one or both "may" have been born before the 1930 Census, which would show her parents and siblings. I'm sure you may not know where and when she was born, and when a genealogy researcher asks you to identify such information, they don't have a clue how to properly begin a research themselves. You don't need to identify when and where she was born to find her, that information is not material to a search.

I find William E. Bell, married Emma Lee Holden on 9 Feb 1948 in the presence of Delbert W. Galbreath of Mt Vernon, and Evelyn Rhodes of Sedro Woolley.
--Delbert W. Galbreath died 13 July 1977 in Skagit Co, age 57 (abt 1920). So, "IF" Delbert was a contemporary of William, both were born in the early 1920's. BUT, a lot of lifetime friendships were made during the years of 1941-1945ish, World War II.

Now, a lot of your personal knowledge about William and Emma and what you can find out comes into play. The length of time they were married (a few years versus MANY), if they had children or not is helpful to the search. Also, while not material at all to the search...why you are seeking her. She may or may not be interested in contact of any of her former nieces, nephews or other in her ex-husbands family. If this is for your own curiosity, then I understand.

Their divorce would have been a civil case in the Superior Court where one of the two filed (the "Petitioner"), the other party the "Respondent." The divorce/dissolution would identify who filed, when, any support ordered for the wife and/or children, and where they lived at the time. The case record "may" also identify a name change for the spouse (usually in short lived marriages, and back to the maiden name). Court cases are public record and court clerks are responsible for maintaining such records.

Her re-marriage records would, of course, be in the County where she remarried. If Skagit, they would have those records.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA
