Lindsey Deforest Byrd died November 2, 1952 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. His body was shipped to his wife in Ione, Pend Oreille County, Washington.
If there is a cemetery book for Pend Oreille County, could someone please look up his burial place? His death certificate says he was to be buried in a Fairmount Cemetery; however, I cannot find a Fairmount Cemetery in Pend Oreille County. Though I did find a Fairmount Cemetery in Spokane County.
Thank you,
Mary

What research have you accomplished? They have both died, www.findagrave.com shows gravesites and others with that last name in Newport. Their Dates of Death would identify time and place and potential obits and then location of children. Newport is a "transmigration" area. A majority of children born/growing there move to other larger population areas (Spokane, etc). Because John and Lydia died MANY years ago, even before the 1940 census, you would need to do some family tracing.

Wendy got the information, but want to make sure that I am passing this on as well. My grandfather, Walter Ford Turnbull did come to the states and fought in WWI under General Pershing. He was naturalized in 1919 when he married my grandmother. Together they had one son, Walter Ford Turnbull (known as Ford), who was my father. He passed away in 1999. We still have some connections with family in Scotland but lost some with parts of the family that was in New Zealand when we moved to Virginia.

I am Kim Turnbull Hall.

No I didn't as I arrived in 1945. I heard that Harry had
killed himself on the floor above the Post Office. Pearl
lived next door to the Post Office which became a Grocery
store as the Post Office moved. The Post Office of today
is back in it's original place in that building. Theta
lived in the house next to Pearl however.

Bowergen2....thank you for your lengthly answer. The reason that I am interested is that Pearl's mother was my great-great Aunt. Seems a lot of tragedy, especially the way her mother died. Also seems like a shortened lineage.
The Sanborn's are buried in the Metaline Cemeterey except Theta----
Sanborn. Clara Luella no dates wooden cross
Sanborn, Harry son of Clara no dates Wooden cross
Sanborn, Pearl U 1891-1964
Sanborn, Varien May 21,1927 Oct 22 1972
Washington Tech5 Sgt US Army W W II

I knew Pearl and the kids. I came to Metaline in 1945 and understand that Harry committed suicide abt 1940 as well as Varien in 1972.
Harry had lost alot of money on his mining stocks after the
Wall Street crash in 1929 and I believed this caused him to end the way he did. I belive that Varien's marital problems
caused his demise.I don't know if he had any children as I never saw him again after he married. He was living in Priest River, Idaho area when he died.
Peal was a real nice lady.I delivered newspapers to her from
1949-1951 and visited with her on collection day every month. She was always alert and talkative.
Her daughter Theta lived next door to her. She had graduated from the local high school in 1941 and was married to Viets Falconer and believe she had two boys. One was named Floyd and I think the other was David?? if I remember right. Her husband worked in the logging industry.
She would be about 89 now and if alive may be somewhere in Idaho? Varien or Sandy as he was known in Metaline never finished school in Metaline and went into the service in 1943 or 1944. After the war he returned to Metaline and lived with his mother untill she passed away then married a girl from Idaho. Sandy always drove his truck, equipted as a wrecker and pulled many cars out of the ditch and cleaned up after alot of wrecks. In the winter he attached a plow on the front and cleared many streets, alleys and roads in the area and also pulled a big old 20 some passenger tobogan around the city streets with the high school age kids of corse with the city elders permission.

Thank you for your continued help. I believe the reason you cannot find Edward and Elizabeth Simons in 1880 is that they probably were no longer were married. Elizabeth remarried to a man by the name of John W. Spohn, two children were born to the Spohn marriage...Arthur, and Etta. Apparently both died in Long Beach, Calif. It seems the more info I get, the more things make sense, except that now I have 3 names for the elusive James Handy, Hanby, or Hardy. Something tells me he wanted it this way. There were people who wrote to my grandma over 100 years ago that did not think or speak very highly of him. There was speculation that he was already married. Good grief!

Barbdale...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP. You found what I have been searching for so many years. The pieces are beginning to come together. I have several pieces or correspondence that are 100 years old where my g-mother was searching for answers from anyone. In one letter the person said that her mother died "from want of care". With the death date 9 days after her birth,it makes sense. I was looking for 2 items....you have given me that. Now, with a correct name I may be able to locate the burial place of Francis (strange, spelled the male way). Thanks again.

I am trying to locate descendents of Una Graves. She had 3 daughters Nina, Gladys, and Pearl Sanborn. Una died 1-26-1932 in a carbon monoxide incident at the home of a patient she was caring for. Una (Eunice)was an Aunt of my grandmother. My grandmother was adopted following the death of her mother in childbirth on 2-14-1887. All blood kin to my grandmother is sketchy and I am really looking for the full name of my great-grandmother, who died in childbirth. Una's maiden name was Spohn and was a half-sister to my great-grandmother. I have been searching for this for about 8 years via several avenues in Chippewa County, Wisconsin without success. If any of the names I have mentioned sound familiar to anyone I would appreciate hearing back. Una Graves was buried in Spokane. The reason I have such poor info is that following her adoption, my grandmother's name was changed and the family moved from the Chippewa county area. My grandmother was not informed that she was adopted until her wedding day in 1904. Also, her Wisconsin birth cert. was altered in 1949 to show that her adopted parents were her birth parents.

I found this article in the Duluth Minnesota News Tribune,
November 21, 1906

Miss Etta Spohn, of 425 Central Ave. North and Leon Huntley will be married this afternoon at the home of the brides parents. Miss Mayme Shaw will be the bridesmaid. A reception will be given for them in the evening.

I found other articles referring to him as Leon Humphrey, but I think Huntley may be correct, as there is a Leon Huntley, widowed, in the 1910 census.

There was an article about JW Spohn's death, I can send it to you if you write to me at widdis77777(at)hotmail.com

Here is the transcription of Francis Simon's marriage - here he is listed as James Lorenzo Hardy. It lists her parents as Edward and Elizabeth. Her birthplace is listed as Dean County - I believe that should be Dunn County. Edward and Elizabeth were living in Dunn County in 1870, with a son? named Frank. I cannot find them in 1880, but Una is living with her grandparents, Samuel and Mary Simon in 1880. You can also find Edward's marriage here.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XRKZ-S65

I'm glad it helped - I like solving mysteries! Two suggestions I have - first, put a query on the Spokane County message board, and ask for an obituary lookup for Una.
Also, you might try ordering the birth certificate for the unnamed female Hanby. I am thinking that the birth certificate issued in 1949 was not a changed one. Your Grandma would have been about 62 in that year, and probably needed proof of age for retirement benefits. So it is possible she provided some proof of her birthdate to the state, and they created a new birth record, with her adoptive parents, of course.
It looks like you cannot order the death record for Francis, possibly due to the fact her daughter was adopted. However, you can order her marriage record to James, which hopefully will include parents names.

It looks like Pearl had more children. See the 1910 census from www.familysearch.org

By 1920, Delbert and Una had divorced. He was living in King County, with his wife Molly. Delbert died in 1931

In 1920 Una was living with her children Everett E., Gladys, and daughter Angeline Miller and a grandchild in Spokane.

There is some interesting information in the Wisconsin Genealogy index
http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/

First, search on the surname Hanby in Chippewa. There is a birth for a Hanby, unnamed Female born Feb. 14, 1887. I didn't find a Hanby death, but I did find a Francis M. Simons, who died on February 23, 1887 in Chippewa County. There is a marriage in Chippewa on June 23, 1883 for a "Franc" M. Simons. If you click on details, then on spouse match, you will find that she married James Handy.

Also, in the same index, there is a marriage for Una to Delbert Graves in 1888 - her surname was listed as Simons.

The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. For an obituary:
http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/Obituaries.aspx
