I have the obits for Herman Monk and Minnie Monk but it still does not clairfy for us what Minnie's maiden name was. Looking for any connection anyone has to the Monk family of this region. Their children's surnames are Simpson living in Rathdrum, Id in 1940, Jacobs of Priest River, ID and Matthews of Bole, Montana all in 1940. Herman and Minnie were in Waterville, Douglas Co. Wa in 1900. We suspect her maiden name may have Thormahlen

Hi Deb, whatever info you learn from relatives you want to back up with documentation. We did not do that in our family and had a 30-year old mistake which didn't come to light until I tried to assemble documentation to join the Mayflower Society.

Anyway, I think her maiden name would be on her death cert but don't have any here to verify that. You could contact State of WA, Dept of Health.

However, it will be on her childrens' birth certs. Gertie, abt. 1892 and Carsie abt. 1890 were born probably born in Douglas Co. and Fred born abt. 1904 in Douglas or Yakima Counties. The state didn't require birth certs until July, 1907 but I'd contact them first anyway. Center for Health Stats, Information 360-236-4300 or 360-236-4313.

If they don't have them, I'd Google Douglas County County Auditor.

There are two rolls of microfilm of Douglas County Birth Returns 1891-1907 at Washington Archives, www.cwu/edu/~archives/douglas.htm. I think you might need a volunteer to access them. To find a volunteer look at Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, www.raogk.org. Be sure to tell them to look through both microfilms. Good Luck

Thank you. I did use RAOGK and they found her obit. We wrote to all surnames in the towns listed and lo and behold we found her family. We have met one of them and are planning a trip there ourselves to meet them. We hope to find her father's grave also while there.
