Hi, Dorothy. No, I'm still trying to obtain that information. I've been writing letters to the elders, and some of the children, but yet to receive anything back from them. I've completed other trees (Runnels & Cate), but really stuck on info for the Best family. So I would be greatful to receive what you have.
Eileen.

I think Aunt Lizzie married Valentine Haynes. Uncle Val was a cattle rancher. Their Ranch was across the Canadian Border.
My cousin "Auntie" Alice was her granddaughter.

Her daughter also an Alice is still in Canada.

George was also a miner. Every mine he staked always bore gold.

George with Okanogan Smith started the first mule team in Eastern washington.

He has a rich history. he worked wiht the Hudson Bay company, he ahd already been to China and around the world several times by the time he arrived in Nespelem.

My great grandmother Skookum analyx, knocked him clean off his horse with a stone when he accidentaly wandered into the women's bathing lake. When he woke up he was in Grandfather's lodge. Your ggrandfather Hiram was my great grandfather's brother. They were originally from Maine. Thomas Runnels and Eliza Morong were their parents and there was a great aunt Mary and others who later came to Washingotn too. I have pictures of them.

I can trace the Runnels family and the Morong family back to Avesnes, France and to Leyden, Hollad and to Acadia. and down to Maine. I believe the first ancestor I am able to trace is Melchior back in the 1400s.

I have also seen que que tasket spelled kwi kwi tas k't, with other accent marks which I am unable to produce here.

Many of our family's Indian names are spelt phoneticaly by whomever is writing them. Usually non indians.

Que Que Tas, was the brother of Tonasket and probably old Wishtoken too. Many of the male names ended in "as k't" or "asket." the women's names in "Analix" or "tsa" There was Ellen who was Skookum Analyx, my grandmother (her daughter) was Whistum analix and there was a Skee alix.. I have seen these names spelt "alyx."

Ellen's maiden name was Que Qur Tas (or the above spellings)

She took the name of her father. George was her brother.

The little girl Ruth is my aunt Ruthie, eldest daughter of Whistum analyx, sister of my mother RoseAnne. Her father was a Whitley I believe.. My grandfather adopted her when he married my grandmother. So Ruth was Ellen and George's grand daughter from their youngest child. Yes Ellen is the person referred to as Ellen American.

Does it mention her Bullwhip!LOL! She sued to beat the crap ou tof men who abused their Indian wives!

Surnames: Runnels, Morong
Elizabeth Runnels was my grandmother's oldest sister. her indian name was Karneetsa my grandmother was Whistum Analyx.

Aunt Lizzie was an artist and an interpreter She went with the old chief Joseph to Washington DC as his interpreter.

She had several husbands. My Cousin Alice Thompson and Cousin Sylvia Harry can tell you any thing you want to know about her. They descend from Valentine Carmichael Haynes her last husband. Her mother was Skoo kum Analyx who was brother of
hereditary Chief Nespelem George. He was the son of Que Que tas also a chief. Google Que Que Tas + ed Curtis for a photo of him.

Aunt Lizzie died in 1942 (some records say 1940) She is buried in our family cemetery.
