My family was logging ~1933 in WA state...They were living in Nespelem on the Colville Indian Reservation and doing logging.. their or nearby I don't know.. they were their no more than 2 or 3 years. My g.grandpa, Dave Potter, was friends with the conservaton officer, who came by for supper. (My Gggma, assisted by Ggma, was the camp good and said to be a good cook).

My grandmother Mescal Potter was a little girl there, she very fondly recalls it and had a beautiful necklace made with seedbeads (sadly the stringing rotted and it fell apart).. She wore a buckskin play dress, and I have photograph of her, with a doll also wearing a buckskin dress. Also there was gggma, ggma, cousin Bart Belcher. There is a photograph of Bart Belcher with 'Dan Dana'. Dan Dana is not a relative that I know of... is he someone's family in Colville?

Would anyone have a clue regards logging in Nespelem area and how I might obtain any additional information about my families presence there.

I lived in Nespelem in the 1930s my father taught school there
it was the school where later the mill was put. A school made of concrete was later built on the hill south of there. I only lived there 3 years during the depression think it was 1933 to 1935. I am very old now(84) but remember many of the names like Dr Hudnut ,Earl Decamp ,Churhills. Kuntz ,Parmeter, Beggs, Kincade plus more. Did your Ggparents go to school there?I fell in the water holding the logs for the mill. There may be a Robert Kuntz still living in the area.

Hi: I am the mother of the young woman seeking information about her Grandparents (Potters)in Nespelem. They came to the reservation probably in 1933-1934. My mother, Mescal was born in 1931 and believes she was 3 or 4 years old when they arrived. She remembers a playmate named Lily who was her age. My grandparents were friends with the Game Warden but we do not know his name either.

Earl DeCamp is still alive and lively. If you'd like to get in touch with him, I believe his number is still (509)633-1641. I'll bet he would love to have someone appear out of the past!

The Don McClure family still live on a ranch in the Nespelem area. Don is the father and Gary and David are the sons. I am sure they are in the phone book and probably could help you. Don is listed in the 1930 census as a 2 year old but his father and mother are also there.
