I didn't find an online obituary.

I see Jennie was born in 1895. When you look at the Creston Cemetery burials, you will see a listing for a Lloyd SELLARS buried in the same block and lot: 3/11:

SELLARS, Lloyd J. 1886 - 1966

Lloyd died in Spokane, Washington, and I find a listing for re-interrment in the Creston Cemetery.

The 1930 census for Lemhi County, Idaho, has a Lloyd J. SELLARS, born about 1889, married to a Jennie, born about 1896 in Colorado.

The Western States Marriages database has the following:

Marriage ID #27552

SELLARS, Loyd [sic] residence: Baker
FARMER, Jennie, residence: Salmon
date: 18 March 1912
Lemhi County, Idaho
Volume 1, page 223

Are you familiar with the volunteer-run Lincoln County, WA, genweb site? They have a large amount of genealogy and history items posted, including some obituaries and lookup volunteers:

http://wagenweb.org/lincoln/

Beth
not related

Can anyone tell me where I can find an obituary for Jennie Sellars Wells who was buried in the Creston Cemetery in the town of Creston? She died in 1989. I believe her middle name of "Sellars" was her first husband's name and "Wells" is her last husband's name. Hoping a obituary will verify this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Carolyn

Hi,
I am a descendant of Thomas and Emily, and I have some information on their family. Although I can't confirm the individuals in the photo, I could make some educated guesses on which children might be theirs. This is the earliest photo I have seen of them. I would be interested in a copy of this photo and any information you have on the Kelly, Marsh or Bowers families. Do you have other photos?

I'm trying to find out more about this family's origins. I think the dau. Catherine and the son-in-law Thomas Campbell are my ancestors who immigrated to PoySippi, WI in 1852, along with Thomas' brothers Patrick, Luke & Edward. The Catherine & Thomas Campbell I am looking for spent some years in SPrague, WA and eventually settled in La Clede, ID and had 10 living children out of 12.

I have most of the online info about Thomas Campbell and family after they arrived in the US (census/obits/bios/death certs). It's info about them before emigration I'm looking for.

Do these people look familiar to anyone? Anyone else have Irish Campbells who came to the US from WI > WA > ID after marrying a Wilson in Peebles, Scotland?

Thank you,
Joanna

............................

Piece: SCT1851/768 Place: Peebles -Peebles-shire Enumeration District: 3
Civil Parish: Peebles Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Peebles
Folio: 0 Page: 3 Schedule: 9
Address: High Street Northside

WILSON James Head
M M 55
Pensioner Ag.
Montana Shingle Company of Auburn Wash.- Mill in Lincoln?

A photo was recently sent to me - the photo is of a group of men, women, and children in front of what appears to be a sawmill. There are wooden boxes with the name "Montana Shingle Co" and "Auburn, Wash." painted on the sides with a logo of a bird between 2 stars. Several of the men are holding tools and there is a large round saw blade in the background behind the stacked boxes. Only two people can be identified by the owner of the photo: Emily Bowers Kelly (later married Curtis Marsh) and her first husband Thomas Nicholas Kelly. The Kelly family is known to have lived in Lincoln county and the photo was probably taken in the mid to late 1890's. Any information regarding the Montana Shingle Company or persons in the photo is greatly appreciated!

The Washington Death Certificate Index shows Charles Alva Hodshire died 23 October 1927 in Davenport, Lincoln County, at age 66 years, 2 months and 23 days (about 1861, August 1, or July 31). His wife was Mary Winslow Hodshire, Father James Hodshire, Mother Susan Brown.

And, as you found the 1930 Census shows Mary still living in Davenport.

While obits in that time frame were not as common as today, a minister of the community may have inspired one. In the 20's, most obit's were written by reporters on the famous, imfamous or victims of homicide or accidents. Most families did not want to spend the funds as anyone that knew them would know anyway...

BUT, I'd look for an obit. If one is found, it "might" show where he was buried:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary.
Actually, the search was not answered. This is not GenForum. The answers given there did not satisfy the researcher. One can NOT ask for records from Eastern State Hospital and "just be a relative" and have records released to you. Records are SEALED and can not be just released. Other records of death were not found.

Ron Bestrom

dementia paralytic, Also called Bayle's disease and General Paresis.
A brain disease occurring as a late consequence of syphilis, characterized by dementia, progressive muscular weakness, and paralysis.

Here is a study on this subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_paresis

Now, based on your last posting, you are looking for the first wife of Joseph Thomas, not William Creed?

As you have, the 1880 Census for Lewis, Holt County, Missouri
Joseph B Thomas, 32 (1847/1848), born in Tennessee to both parents born in TN.
Rebecca S, age 22, born in Missouri to father born in Ohio, mother in New York
Wiley Woods, age 17, brother-in-law, born in Tennessee to both parents born in TN
-- So, based on the hopeful accuracy of the enumerator, this Wiley Woods could not be the brother of Rebecca, as their parents were born different states.
-- But, this Wiley Woods "Could" be the brother-in-law of Joseph Thomas, not by the marriage of Joseph to a sister of Wiley; but, Wiley could have married Joseph's sister. Thus, he would still be a brother-in-law. But, now, this Wiley was only 17 at the time of the census. So, while this relationship is "possible", it is probably a bit more possible that Wiley was a brother to a former wife of Joseph, who you had identified as possibly being a "Jane Woods".

In the 1870 census, I looked for any "Wil*" Wood*, (where * is a wildcard for ANY letters following), born plus/minus 5 years of 1863. I looked at many, but did not find a person with this criteria that ALSO had a sister Jane old enough to have married after the 1870 census. I did find a William Woods that had a sister Jane, but she was only 1.

As far as Joseph's marriages, that search will need to be done in Tennessee and Missouri.

Ron Bestrom

The Washington Digital Archives: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/default.aspx
Has an image for a marriage, dated 15 February 1939, between Wesley T. Ohms and Blanche L. Roberts, both of Grant County. Witnesses were Melvin Ohms and Fred Roberts.

In the 1930 Census Wesley T. Ohms (transcribed as middle inital "L") was living in Weippe, Clearwater County, Idaho. He was 15 (1914/1915), born in Washington. His brother Melvin R, was 13. They and three other sons and two daughters were children of D. Charles and Blanche E. Ohms.

The Social Security Death Index shows: Wesley Ohms, born 29 August 1914, died April 1981. His "Last Residence" was University Place, (suburb of Tacoma); his last benefit was Tacoma, Pierce County, WA. The "Last Residence" and "Last Benefit" does NOT mean he actually lived here.

I checked the Pierce County Recorded documents, nothing found for either Wes or Blanche, or any potential OHMS name.

The Tacoma Library has a database of obituaries published by the local Tacoma News Tribune (Herald, etc). It shows an obit published for Wesley Tim Ohms on 15 April 1981, page B-4. He died on 13 April 1981. Blanche is not listed. That doesn't mean she didn't die, etc., it just means she wasn't listed. Bottom line: I couldn't find her on any record system. Perhaps his obit might identify her location.
-----I would suggest you request an obit for this Wesley Tim Ohms:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx .

The 1920 Census for Klaxta, Stevens County
Fred A, 51 (1868/1869), born in Michigan to father born in New York, mother in Iowa
Mary M, 35 born in Minnesota to father born in Canada, mother in Ohio
Arthur F 6 (1913/1914)
Lillian B 5 (1914/1915)
Herbert A, age 2 and either 11/12 or 4/12.
--The census was enumerated on January 14th, so Herbert born about February 1917, or August 1917 (probably 11/12).
--The 1930 Census was enumerated in April, Herbert was 13, so it appears the February 1917 DOB would be more "possible".
-- TheSocial Security Death Index shows a Herbert Roberts, born 11 Feb 1917, death Jan 1983 in North Hollywood, CA. California Death Index shows his middle name was Walter, mothers maiden name of Myers... Not the correct person.
--Another born 11 July 1917, died May 1985 in Jerome, Jerome Co, Idaho.

The Fred Roberts found by Bless95008 in Utah, also born Michigan, also father born New York, mother in Ohio, too big of a coincidence to not consider. The fact he is a widower indicates, if the correct person, Mary died 1920 to 1930. BUT, in MANY cases in the early census years, a person would identify the spouse had died, even though there had been an abandonment. This is NOT proven in this case, just something to consider.

About all I can do tonight

Ron Bestrom

Re: William Creed Thomas

He was listed as "Creed" Thomas at his death on 10 Nov 1923 in Medical Lake, Washington. It is found at: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/default.aspx If you require a copy of the certificate, please contact the Center for Health Statistics at the
Washington State Department of Health at (360) 236-4300 or
http://www.doh.wa.gov/EHSPHL/CHS/cert.htm. The full certificate "might" identify the cause of death.

Do you have specific information that he died at Eastern State Hospital? It IS in Medical Lake. The fact that he died at Medical Lake does not mean he was a patient there for mental health reasons. It was a major medical center even then.

Eastern State Hospital:
http://www.dshs.wa.gov/Mentalhealth/esh.shtml

Obtaining records: Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 71.05.390
http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/supdefault.aspx?cite=71.05.390
(14) Upon the death of a person, his or her next of kin, personal representative, guardian, or conservator, if any, shall be notified.
Next of kin who are of legal age and competent shall be notified under this section in the following order: Spouse, parents, children, brothers and sisters, and other relatives according to the degree of relation. Access to all records and information compiled, obtained, or maintained in the course of providing services to a deceased patient shall be governed by RCW 70.02.140.

In 2004, House Bill 2387, allowed for the release of information concerning the location of persons buried in hospital cemeteries. If you have a family member that you think might be buried in the hospital’s cemeteries, contact the Medical Record Department at (509) 299-4335. The staff will determine if you are authorized to receive information regarding patients who have been buried in the hospital’s cemeteries and will assist you with your questions.
From the above RCW:
(16) To mark headstones or otherwise memorialize patients interred at state hospital cemeteries. The department of social and health services shall make available the name, date of birth, and date of death of patients buried in state hospital cemeteries fifty years after the death of a patient.
--------

I found your family tree online, and also works by "unknown". Perhaps you have the following, if so, good; if not, hope it helps. I'm also posting so it is available to anyone else seeking on Rootsweb:

Georgie Jerred, born 1887, died 1982, buried in Keller, WA. She was daughter of John Robert Jerred, born 1 April 1958 in Howard Co, Iowa; and Bridgett McNamara, born 4 April 1854 in Minnesota. Her first marriage was to Creed Thomas. Her second was to a Jones. Another tree identified she had married Creed Thomas Clyde JONES...as being one person.

The Bureau of Land Management has land patent records (Homestead Act)
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
These records include land purchases made by William Creed Thomas (Enter as Washington State, first name William, last name Thomas). Two were in 1907, a third in 1926. The 1926 purchase was made by Georgia J. (Jerred?) Thomas, widow of William Creed Thomas.

The 1926 land was located in the Willamette Meridian, Range 34-E, Township 28-N and Section 27 (the north half of the SW Quarter; and, the SW Quarter of the NW Quarter)
The 1906 land was in Range 34-E, Township 28-N and Section 27 in the land identified as the same.
The Second 1906 land was in Section 28.

If you do not know where this land was located:
Go to: http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html
Enter "Washington", the Township 28-N, Range 34-E and Section 27
-The next window has some information on the location, note the Pheasant Springs at a distance of 979 meters.
-Now Click on "Switch to TerraServer" in the middle of the page.

In the next window, click on "TopoMap", and also the largest blue box for size.
--In the next window, a topo map, you'll see "Pheasant Spring in blue near the center bottom. All of the red boxes are Sections. Now, click on the red box holding the word "Pheasant Springs". Now, click on it again. You will now see a red "27" in the middle of a red box. This is where the land was located.

Now, for Hellsgate Rapids. This had to be prior to the Grand Coulee Dam, probably located in the now flood area of the Lake Roosevelt, part of the Coulee Dam National Recreation Area (Now known as Lake Roosevelt NRA, part of the National Park Service). Are you familiar with any of the Park Rangers that worked in the Keller area in recent years...back to the late 1960's? I worked for the NPS and was good friends with Hilliary Brown that was in that area. Not that has bearing; but, in the event you knew him.

The NPS Rangers might have historical Topo maps that would identify the Hellsgate Rapids: http://www.nps.gov/laro/ It has been YEARS (1975) since I worked there as a Ranger; but the Park Historian or Naturalist might be able to help you.

Ron Bestrom

There is no Hodshires listed in the Tombstones of Lincoln County book, but that does not mean they are not buried there. I have found several people whose obit says they were buried in Lincoln county, but either no tombstone or maybe they had a wooden one that has long ago rotted away. I will check the Spokane papers for an obit, but as Ron says not a lot of obits then. Charles Hodshire's death certificate has been filmed by the LDS and is on film# 2022413 and it might tell where he was buried also. Mary is not listed in the WA Death index nor in the Washington Marriages, so she may have died out of state

Charles

It was kind of the headwaters of Sring Canyon. Do you have the section, township and range of the place you are talking about? The Herdrick family farms ground around there as well.

The Names Feil and Lang look to me like they are Germans from Russia. WA, 15.

I have checked Ancestry.com, Washington State Digital Records (not all records are entered yet) and WA Death Index in the Mormon Church records and can't find anything else about the Roberts family.

I'm guessing that either Fred and Mary divorced or one or the other died before 1930 and the children were split up.
The Northeast Washington Genealogical Society, http://www.newgs.org/ might do research regarding divorces and deaths.

It's possible that Blanche was married in Douglas County and the Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society, www.wags-web.org has the microfilm for Douglas & Chelan County marriage indexes and does research in this area. Successful Searching!

Hi Raedene, since Georgia Alice remarried, it's no wonder I couldn't find her death record.

If you are interested in Creed's info from Eastern Washington State Hospital, check out http://www1.dshs.wa.gov/mentalhealth/medrecords.shtml . My girlfriend's grandfather died there about the same time (part of the hospital was where they treated hard-ship medical cases) and she did get a copy of his records. Successful Searching!
