TWO CARS AND WAGON INVOLVED IN TRAGEDY
Mrs. J. R. Somerville, Offut Lake Resident, and Mrs. Price Barber, Chehalis, Die After Crash Near Airport on Pacific Highway.
Two women were killed and two men were seriously injured in an accident involving two cars, and a team and wagon near the Olympia airport on the Pacific highway shortly before 6 o'clock yesterday evening.
Mrs. J. R. Somerville, Offut Lake resident, and Mrs. Price Barber, of Chehalis, died at St. Peter's hospital within a few hours after the traffic accident.
Deputy Sheriff Jack Stearns, who investigated the accident with State Patrolman George Fisher, said that the two cars collided as one had apparently turned to avoid striking a team and wagon.
Both Mrs. Somerville and Mrs. Barber received fatal head lacerations as well as other injuries.
J. R. Somerville, driver of one of the cars, received serious injuries as did Jesse Matthews, Seattle oil company employee, but their condition was believed not critical.
According to Stearns the Somervilles were accompanied by Mrs. Barber, while Mathews was alone in the other car. The driver of the team and wagon had not been identified late last night. Further details of the cause of the accident could not be immediately learned, Stearns said.
Hospital attaches said late last night that Sommerville was not injured seriously and that Matthews was taken, by ambulance, to the Providence hospital at Seattle.
