John F. Drebis Passes at Age of 91 — Had Lived in Centralia Since 1914

John F. Drebis, who celebrated his 81st birthday last Friday, passed away yesterday at his home, 616 South King street, following a lingering illness. He had been a resident of Centralia since 1914.
The obituary of the deceased, written by himself before his death, is as follows:
“John Fritzen Drebis was born near Horsens, Denmark January 29, 1846. On July 9, 1866, he left home and native country to come to the U.S.A. On August 9 he arrived in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In December, 1871, he went on a visit to the place of his birth, where he remained that winter. On May 7, 1872, he was married to Juliane Rasmussen. The next morning they started for America and in due time reached Council Bluffs, Iowa, where nine children were born to them. One pair of twins, three girls and one boy who died, and were buried there.
“In the spring of 1893 the rest of the family came to the state of Washington and settled at South Union, near Olympia. There on March 22, 1903, their youngest child, Agnes, died, and on June 6, 1913 the mother died. That fall J.F. Drebis went back to Iowa and South Dakota and stayed that winter. There he met Elsie M. Jensen, the two agreeing to become man and wife and cast their lot together On April 1, 1914. John F. started from Kimball, S.D., for Centralia, Wash., to prepare a home, which he did on the corner of Hamilton avenue and Jefferson street. In June Elsie came, and on the 15th of that month they were married in Olympia by Justice of the Peace Walter Crosby.
“Remaining are four children, Peter A. and Freddie A. Drebis and Margaret Drebis Brown of Centralia, and Emma Drebis Slimp, of Napavine; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
“My love and beat wishes I leave to my dear friends, who sure have been kind to me.”
Funeral services for Mr. Drebis will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Fissel-Reymolds chapel. Internment will be in the Brush Prairie cemetery at Tumwater.
