I recently received some information about the second wife of Henry Niva (b. 1845 d. 1917 Centerville). I had her listed as Dorothy Jacklyn but heard that the marriage cert in Klickitat listed her as Dorte Maatta.
Combined with some info at home.no.net/~tballo/webfamilier/Niva_s.rtf that suggests Henry might be from the Tornio Valley (not Kuusamo) and shows his (first) wife as Greta Lisa Törmenen. I believe this is Elizabeth (Lizzie or Maggie in the census) which seems to be confirmed by the obit info for her daughter Mary Miriam at http://www.genealogia.fi/emi/emi3d20s9e.htm which lists her name as Anna Liisa Matta. She shows up in the Centerville Cemetery as “Greta L.” (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~westklic/cvnlist.html). The oral tradition is that after Henry's first wife died, he sent for her sister, so perhaps Greta Lisa was married before Henry to a Törmenen.
I still don’t understand why Dorothy's obit lists her maiden name as Jakiaho.
In the parish records for Kuusamo (http://hiski.genealogia.fi/hiski/13q4uo), I find Greta Lisa Määttä b. 20 Dec 1846 with parents "Drg Joh Henr el Korkalo Määttä" and mother "Pig. Madlena Lena Törmänen" but the records there don’t go past 1849. I wonder if they would show Dorte if they went to 1851!
