Looking for any info on Asa Gilmore, his wife, Maude and his last wife, Olalah Mae Calvin/Cunningham. We know Asa and Maude moved to Washington in the 1940's, and we have found them buried at Bayview Cemetery, Whidbey Island. But no other info is known. Don't know if they had any children. There is a woman on Ancestry with some info on the marriage of Asa and Olalah, appears to be a news article, but she has her tree set to personal, and despite repeated attempts, she will not answer my requests to share! So, I will keep trying other avenues. Any info of any of these people would be appreciated! Thanks!

POW/MIA Korean War, Island Co. DRAKE

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Island County, Washington as his home of record.

Soldier: DELBERT RAYMOND DRAKE
Born: 1932 Caucasian
Date of loss: July 10, 1953, KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 46 families in Washington that have not been located. There is one family from Island County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I have very little information on this branch.
Frank Poor b, Jan 1900 in Belleview, IL
married Mary E. abt 1922 somewhere in WA, probably in Island County. Mary b, abt 1900 in Iowa.
1930 census for Frank & Mary in Island County shows:
Frank: age 29
Mary: wife/age 30
Francis S: son/6
Archie A: son/4 & 7mns (puts him born abt Sep 1925)
Robert E: son/2 & 5mns
Eugene R: son/ 4mns

Frank's parents were Allen Poor & Eliza Olive Heavner of Pike Co., IL.

I found possible references to Frank & his brother Jack in the Seattle newspapers in the late 1930's-1960's, but also find reference to a Mrs. Jack Poor in the Centralia newspapers.

Have an SSDI for an Archie Poor who died in Seattle May 1978 with DOB as 3 Aug 1925.

I would assume with all the kids being born in the late 20's and possible some more in the early 30's that many may still be alive.

Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated!
Lori Z.

ALBERT H. PRATT - UTSALADY

In 1889 Albert Pratt married in San Bernardino County, California at age 26. On the county marriage register he listed his residence as Utsalady, County of Island, Washington Territory. (He was born in Turkey).

In 1880 he was in school (age 17) in Mass. In 1900 he and his wife were in San Francisco.

Can anyone tell me what was going on it Utsalady in 1889 that might have drawn Albert there? Do any records exist from Utsalady in an archive? All help appreciated.

Bobby Title

They came from Des Moines, IA, sometime before the turn of the century, and were in Holmes Harbor on Whidbey for the 1910 Census. I believe Nancy Jane died about 1915 and am looking for her burial site. She had 7 children from a previous marraige, who may have kept the name PROUTY, and it appears the DANIELS had two more of their own. My father lost all contact with Bill. I found an old letter that places Bill on a Greenbank farm in 1934. It also mentions a school that he attended that he went to on a bus. Would anyone know what school district someone from Greenbank would have attended in 1934? I would like to write and see if I could get his school records to see if there is a residence listed.

I did a Social Security lookup and found an Ole Mortensen who died in Jan, 1967 in Oak Harbor WA. I'm wondering if anyone can do an obit lookup for me on that person. His social security # birthdate was a few days off, same month, but in 1874. I'm wondering if there's some missing information on the information I have.
My father was seperated from his brother, Bill Hills in or about 1932. They were in an home for children in Seattle because their parents had died. My father lost all contact with Bill. I found an old letter that places Bill on a Greenbank farm in 1934. It also mentions a school that he attended. Would anyone know what school district someone from Greenbank would have attended in 1934? I would like to write and see if I could get his school records to see if there is a residence listed.

Especially someone who would have been 9yrs old at that time?

J. J. Cleveland

The following is a "Business Biography" from the Whidbey Island Farm Bureau News of Aug. 24, 1933

J. J. CLEVELAND

Since auto trucks have been made Jess Cleveland has been driving them.

"I've tried many different lines of work, but have never found anything I enjoy doing more than truck driving," Cleveland said.

He has been in the trucking business here for more than twelve years and began when working for the Smith Livery Stable. When Smith bought what was perhaps the first truck on Whidby Island, Jess Cleveland drove it.

Since then he continued to work for the same firm which changed owners several times and was finally known as the Oak Harbor Auto Freight. Cleveland was with that company for about seven years and two years ago bought a truck and went into business for himself. Since then he has been kept busy hauling, but has had a little Spare time in the evenings to work on his farm near Oak Harbor.

Cleveland was born in Kansas in 1893 and moved West with his parents at the age of 13. He has lived on Whidby Island since 1910 and before that lived in Seattle and Puyallup where he attended school. The Clevelands with their family of two children now live on their farm just out of Oak Harbor.

"As to a hobby, I really haven't got time for one," Cleveland laughed. "I Haven't taken a vacation for four years, but would like to hunt and fish if I had time."

Cleveland is progressive in his views on business and believes in looking ahead.
Searching the Shields Family. George Shields, born late 1800s. Wife Sherry (maiden name Gilbert) Shields, born 01/02/1898. I think during their marriage they lived in Arizona. They had at least one son, Michael Donald Shields, born apx. 1931. George Shields died at an early age (year unknown). Sherry remarried changing her last name to Caston. Sherry died in Seattle, WA. on 06/05/74. Michael Donald Shield would be somewhere around 70 years of age. Its possible he could be living in Island County.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Judy
