Hi,
I didn't find anything for Jerrit or Jerry Carter and I searched in Ancestry, FamilySearch and Washington Digital Archives.

I did find an Edward Carter in 1930 living in Gloucester City Home and Hospital, Gloucester, Essex, MA.
Edward Carter, b. MA, 53 yrs old, single, no occupation.
William Carter, b. Scotland, 80, widower, no occupation.

Maybe Edward's father William returned to Massachusetts when his father went in to the City Home and Hospital but that doesn't explain why Edward would be living there. Also Edward is listed as single instead of widow.

You could contact Random Acts Genealogical Kindness volunteers in the counties you think he might have died in. See their web site www.raogk.org, read instructions, choose Washington, choose Grays Harbor Co and three volunteers are listed.

The Grays Harbor Genealogical Society, PO Box 867, Cosmopolis, WA 98537-0867 does research too. Maybe they have the WA Death Index on microfilm.

For King County, there is a RAOGK volunteer, Diane, who will do look ups at the Library.

The Seattle Genealogical Society does research, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~waseags/ too .
Successful Searching!

I found a death notice that appeared in The Olympian (Olympia, Washington) on November 15, 2008, for John William Carter. He died Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia. The funeral home was Forest Funeral Home, Olympia. From a google.com search, the funeral home's address, telephone number, and email address are:

2501 Pacific Ave SE
Olympia, WA 98501

In an effort to find EXACTLY who you are seeking, I did some background first. You may already have all of the below, I did not and needed the information.

From other postings and research under your posts, I find you were looking for Edward Carter, born 2 January 1885 in North Andover, Essex County, Massachusettes, Ezra and Katie Carter. This Edward would have been the father of the "John and Jerry" that you identified.

The 1900 Census for North Andover, Essex County, Mass. Born Jan 1885, Edward Carter, born Jan 1885, son of Ezra Carter born in Maine, mother Catherine born in Ireland.

The 1910 Census for Seattle, King County, WA
George J. Haberkorn, age 46
Mary A. Haberkorn, 43, second marriage, mother of 10, all living
Julia Carter, age 21, born in S. Dakota, daughter
Edward Carter, age 25 (1884/1885, age matches criteria), born in Massaachusettes to father born in Rhode Island, mother in Ire? speaks English, Marine in the US Navy.
Eight other Haberkorn children in the household.

The Washington Birth Index:
John Carter, born 23 July 1912 in Seattle to Edward Carter and Julia K. Haberkorn
George Esra Carter, born 31 August 1910 to Ed Carter and Julia Haberkorn

The Washington Death Certificate Index:
Julia Carter died 31 July 1918 in Seattle at age 28 Years, 11 months and 21 days (1889), daughter of George Hoberkorn (sic) and Mary Kluetsch.

The World War I Draft Registration Card Image database shows Edward Carter registered on 9/12/1918 as required for his year of birth. His permanent address was listed as a Fire Station, 14th South at Mass., Seattle, WA. He was born January 2nd, 1885 (would have been 33). His nearest relative was Jerrad(sic) Carter, 2509 Dearborn St, Seattle.

The 1920 Census for Seattle, King Co, WA
Edward Carter, age 43 (1877, clearly not in line with the other data), born in Mass to father born in Mass, mother in Ireland. Fireman. Widower
Jerrit, age 9,
John age 7
--both sons, born WA to father born in Mass, mother in North Dakota.
--based on the data, either the enumerator made mistakes, or whoever provided the data did not know the details, had it wrong, or provided wrong information.

The 1930 Census for Seattle, King County, owning 2111 Denton
Edward Carter, age 45, born Mass to father born in Maine, mother in Northern Ireland, fireman for the city.
Hazel, 33, born in Wisconsin, age at first marriage- 25 (eight years)
Mildred, age 1 9/12 (census enumerated April 8, so Mildred born about July 1928.

The Washington Death Certificate Index:
Edward Carter,

The Edward found, based on age, etc, place of birth, place of mothers birth, has established full search criteria. You may know of Hazel and Mildred.

The Edward Carter found in Mass. by the other "person" is NOT the correct person, nor is the person identified as his "father".

The John William Carter whose obituary you seek does not appear to be the correct person, as the John Carter, son of Edward was registered with a birth of 23 July 1912. BUT, the proof is not in the birth index, the prove MUST be further obtained with other records.

As Barbara found, I also found:
Deaths
Olympian, The (WA) - Saturday, November 15, 2008
Deaths
Carter , John William, 96, Olympia, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia. Forest Funeral Home, Olympia, 360-943-6363.
Contact them for further information on the family. I went to their website www.woodlawn-forest.com but no further online information.

----These people as identified can not be the correct family members based on a number of known criteria factors. Wrong persons found.
