When you post, post some critical information about the people you seek. In this case, was she last known in Ephrata in 1950 or 2010. What is her approximate age (exact DOB not necessary for this type of search as her name is somewhat unique. But, if her name was Jane Smith, and she was last known in a place in 1950, then exact info is needed).

Since this person is found to have been in Ephrata at an address in 2010, when was your last attempt to contact? She is also been found there in 2012. Had you attempted 411 Directory Service? Since I found her last known to be there in 2012, if you had recently tried last known address or telephone since then, she may have moved.

I'm sending the address and phone found for her directly via your membership in Ancestry contact system:

I found obituaries for George's sister, but none for George or their brother Clarenece. I'm going out of a clipped obituary file, so that doesn't mean obituaries for them don't exist. Since they were pioneers of Wilson Creek, you might want to contact the Grant County Historical Society or the Wilson Creek library. I'm including Evelyn's obituary in hopes that the "survived by" section will help you.

12 May 1960, from the Grant County Journal

Miss Rosenberg Taken By Death

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday from the Nicoles Funeral Home, Ephrata, for Miss Evelyn Hanna Rosenberg, a 55 year resident of Wilson Creek, who died at an Odessa hospital on Thursday.
The pioneer resident of Wilson Creek was a member of the Soap Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include three brothers, George and Clarence Rosenberg, both of Wilson Creek, and Emil Rosenberg, Abby, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Young, Wilson Creek; Martha Soderstrom and Mrs. Helen Huhn, both living in California; also nieces and nephews.
The Rev. David Douglas will officiate at the funeral services on Monday. Internment will be made at Wilson Creek cemetery.
The Nicoles Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
If desired, contributions may be made to the Washington State Cancer Society.

--------------------------------------------------
taken from the Columbia Basin Herlad, 13 May 1960
Evelyn Rosenberg Dies at Age 54
Wilson Creek--Miss Evelyn Rosenberg, 54 member of a pioneer Wilson Creek family and a resident here nearly all her life, died yesterday in the hospital at Odessa. She had been ill since July.

Miss Rosenberg was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Rosenberg who came here on in 1903. She was born here Aug. 17, 1905, and with the exception of 3 1/2 years, lived here all her life. She and two brothers, George and Clarence, lived together in the family home here.

Other survivors include another brother, Emil of Addy [no state given], and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Young of Wilson Creek, Mrs. Martha Soderstrom of Twain Harte, Calif, and Mrs. Helen Huhn of Sacramento.

Services will be held at 2 pm Monday in the Nicoles Funeral Home at Ephrata. The Rev. David Douglas of the Soap Lake Baptist Church will officiateand burial will be in the Wilson Creek Cemetery.
Hello Rhonda,

My name is Kaylene (maiden Parker). Hilma Mickelson Dahlgren was my great grandmother's sister, so my great great aunt. I have been researching my family trees for quite some time. I would love to trade information as I have no living relatives to tell me of their history. My father and his sister are alive but do not know very much. Both my grandparents passed away when I was young and Cora (Hilma's sister) died 3 days after my birth. Apparently there was a falling out between Cora and her family. (I've been told Cora was not a pleasant person) If you have any information on the Mickelson's, I would greatly appreciate it. Also anything on the Dahlgren side would be great too. If you don't mind sharing information you can privately email me @ kaylenefischer@gmail.com
I have Walfred and Hilma's 1930 US Census and your father's OBIT. It says you have a sister Charleen? Sister or Sister-in-law? Or was the information wrong altogether? Again anything is appreciated. Thank you :)

Hi,

IF you're still looking for these obits, you can contact the Washington State Library, sos.wa.gov/library/obituaries.aspx. They will scan the obitusry (if one was published) and email it to you at no charge but it takes about six to eight weeks.

You can request a copy of Albert's from the Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society, wags-web.org. They charge $5/obit for non-members and it takes about a week. I looked up Loretta's name but didn't find it. Successful Searching!

Hello,
I am looking for obituaries for Albert and Loretta McLauchlin. They are both buried in Valley View Memorial Park. They were living in Soap Lake.
No, most of the family passed away young within a span of 5 years. All the family documents went to my uncle once my grandmother died and then my uncle died a year later. His wife kept those who she could recognize for their son and threw everything else away. My mom (his sister) and only surviving sibling is the one who asked me to see if I can find it. I will check out the resources you mentioned. Thank you for your help!

I'm sorry about the loss. I did find information about his death in an obituary published in the White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona. It identifies his having a sister, brother, sister-in-law and nephew. So, I will assume his family has no information about the pageant.

He was born in April 1962. So, that would eliminate 1960 and 1961; but, not enough help there.

I would first try the Grant County Fair Association. They may have something in the way of records, if nothing more than just the dates of the fair in the 1960's.
http://grantcountyfair.com/index.htm
The Members of the Board are also listed.

If they do not have specific information about the pageant, there might be some record in the local Ephrata newspaper, the "Columbia Basin Herald." (There is also the Grant County Journal) Hopefully, the Fair Association would at least have the dates of the fair. For newspaper records, "IF" you had specific dates, the Washington State Library could find any article. If not, I doubt that organization would wish to check multiple years around the dates of the fair for this information. In that event, you "could" obtain any microfilms of the newspaper covering those years through the Inter-library loan program from an Ephrata library to your own, for viewing in your own library.
The Washington Library:
http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/ask_form.aspx They have a specific form for obtaining an obituary, but this would be a microfilm check for an event.

Ron Bestrom

Re: Thornhill, Dovie N. died Jan 14, 2006

The Social Security Death Index:
Dovie N. Thornhill, born 17 Oct 1908, died 14 Jan 2006, "last residence" in Quincy, Grant County, WA. The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT necessarily where a person was living. The "last residence" is only known by the Social Security Administration as the "home of record." It is not necessarily based on a benefit to the person, survivor or the lumpsum death payment. I have found this "last residence" to be far removed from where a person actually was living. I have found it to the be the location where the lumpsum death payment ($255.00) was sent to a family member, attorney, funeral home, etc. Recently that benefit could only be sent to a living spouse.

US Public Records database for 1950-1993:
Dovie Thornhill, living at 119 D. Street SE, Quincy, WA (at some point in 1950-1993). I find that address to be apartments, others living there were elderly, so possibly a retirement center.
Another record shows the occupany in Quincy through 2002.

I found a family tree containing "Dovey" Naomi Lewis, daughter of James Isham Lewis and Sarah Harper. Dovey was born in Oklahoma City, OK. She had four brothers and two sisters. She was the youngest. This family tree did not have enough information (none in most cases) on the siblings to identify if she had been living with one of them in her later years. She was married to James Melton Thornhill, JR. in Nov 1984 (no information if she was married before,or had other children). James died in May 1983 in El Cajon, San Diego County. The tree shows a Royce Edward Thornhill identified as a son, born 1932 in Arizona, died 8 Oct 1981 in Simi Valley, California. So, there is no known connection via family to Quincy. But, it appears she did live there, at least between 1940 and 1993.

Royce's grave:
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=th...;
I did not find James or Dovie/Dovey.

I found one site having her, age 102, living at E. Bradley Avenue, Space 123, El Cajon, CA. It even showed a picture of the mobile home.

I checked the Grant County WA Auditor/Recorder to see if there were any recorded documents in her name. Their records are not online.

I found a cemetery transcription of the Quincy Cemetery, but it was done in 2000, no other transcriptions were found.

An obituary... Dovie was 97 at the time of death. A good percentage of elderly do not have obituaries. This is due to many reasons, their request; no family or friends in the area willing to pay for an obituary; no family or long term friends in the area; long-term poor health/hospitalization; etc. BUT, you should continue to search.

The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, normally a good place for volunteer researchers, has no volunteers in Grant County.

Quincy is the home of the newspaper "The Quincy Valley Post Register." I reviewed their online website, but they had no online archives.

So, about the only potential source I can suggest (besides a local reader on this board) is the Washington State Library:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. For an obituary: http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/Obituaries.aspx
Due to staff cuts, economy, mass requests, they are not taking up to six weeks.

Sorry I had no success.

Ron Bestrom
Are you specifically interested in information about the pageant or (if you are not him) in locating him?

"He" probably might have information about it, at least the event date/location and year. And if he doesn't someone in his family probably would have more of a memory of it than he would, given his age at the time.

Ron Bestrom

Hi,
You can contact the Grant County Historica Museum and Village, 509-754-3334. Ask for the curator.

Place names and why they are named are always a challenge because sometimes the name was assigned on a county level but sometimes on a state level. Successful Searching!

Kaylend Fische,
I have just read your message of Sept. 2009. I don't know if you're still looking for Mickelson info, but my grandmother was Hilma and my father was her son Arthur. Hilma married Walfred Dahlgren. Both died in Turlock California. My father was born in Wilson Creek.

That's him! He had deserted his family in New York and evidently took pains not to be found -- appears on his death certificate as Albert Jacob Raven, but enough of the other information there is true or partially true to positively identify him as Herbert. Grave may be seen at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSsr=41...;.
