Your posting did not have enough information to immediately seriously look for this person. If you have the date of birth, place of birth? Parents names? etc. that gives a big help to research.

The name you listed "Ella Craig (Mckay), is McKay her maiden name? If so, do you have her middle name or husbands name? If it is a maiden name, the normal method of showing her name would be the maiden name in the middle, as "Ella (McKay) Craig". Or, "Ella Craig, nee: Mckay".

I find your family tree online.

Ella McKay, born 1857 in Iowa to unidentified parents, married Samuel Craig in 1878. Two children, Claude Ernest Craig 1879-1957, and Pansy Irene Craig, 1891 to 1979.

The 1892 census, enumerated 5 April, in Garfield County, has S. Craig, age 37, born Indiana, E.E. Craig 34, born Iowa, C.E. 13, born Kansas, P.I, age 1, born Washington.
--I agree this appears to be the correct family.

Other info shows Samuel born Oct 1854 in Illinois, died 1920 in Leland, Nez Perce County, Idaho. Claude Ernest born 27 Oct 1879 in Clifton, Kansas.

The last appearance of Ella was in 1892. I attempted to find her/her family in 1900 in an effort to narrow the years to find her death. Unless you have some specific information that identifies the date of her death, we're looking at 1892 (date of the census to ?). She was 34 in the 1892 census, far to young to die of old age. In many cases, the person is found living in later census. She could have died, she could have left the family, or the family left her.

Since Samuel was a farmer, I looked in the Bureau of Land Management database of Homestead Act land patents http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/
in an attempt to locate any land he may have had in Garfield County. No luck with him, but Claud Craig obtained Homestead Act land in 1910 in Nez Perce County, Idaho. If you do not know where his land was located, repost and ask and I'll locate it for you.
--Claud Craig married Emma Robbins on 10 Jun 1903 in Leland, Nez Perce County, Idaho. So, if a newspaper announcement / article can be found, it might identify if his mother was still alive.

Cemetery transcriptions are pretty rare for finding them; and finding everyone in the cemetery. Even if the cemetery was transcribed, those that walk them, miss graves; stones are unreadible or missing. And, back in the 1890's, a lot of people had their own cemeteries on their own properties, forever lost today.

I can't find Samuel, Claud, or Pansy in the 1900 census. They may have been missed for one reason or another...

I looked through my on-line sources and didn't find her. However, there are several cemeteries that aren't on-line.

I'd contact the Garfield County Genealogy Club, Pomeroy, WA 99347. That's the address as listed on www.kindredtrails.com/WA_Garfield.html.

Just came across your post of several years ago about Henry Clay Thompson. Yes, both Henry and Mary are buried in the Pomeroy Cemetery in Garfield County, WA. Almedia is also buried there having died in 1926. Her mother Mary died in 1930.

I am intrigued by your Elmer Ellesworth Savage.

My Great Grandfather George W. Savage born 1839 in Ohio married Rebecca Smith born 1852 and they had a child Elmer Ellsworth Savage born 1873 in Maysville,DeKalb County, Missouri area. The coincidence of these names makes me think there is connection.

Family History:

Elizabeth Sherard born 1823 OH. married William Johnson , they had 3 children John, Lucinda,William. William died and Elizabeth then married John Robert Smith, they had 10 children, Lurana, Rebecca,Emaline,Harry, Nancy,Archibald,, Mary,Andrew, Elizabeth,Hiram"Bob".

Hiram "Bob" Sherard's daughter Cora Sherard born 1870 married William Sheffer then William Ellis. Charles Ellis and Frank Ellis were born of thus marriage. Frank was born 1900 .

You mentioned both Savage and Ellis in your message. Could this family be connected to your family ?

My father writes:

"My encyclopedia says an Elmer E. Ellsworth was the first Union officer killed in the Civil War. He had worked in Lincoln's law office in Springfield, IL, and aided in the presidential campaign. He was killed removing a rebel flag from a hotel in Alexandria, VA, and became a Northern hero. He was leading a Zouave volunteer regiment from NY."

So this is a generation before my Elmer, but it's a great story. The Zouaves were the ones who wore the gig, bright red pantaloons and red turbans that made them such easy targets...

Wow. I think our Elmer's are not the same person, but must be cousins of some degree, because the name is so unusual. My Elmer is my great grandfather:

Elmer Ellesworth Savage, b. 1886, Colombia Co., Washington, d. 1913 by his own hand in Garfield Co., Washington

His parents were James Henry Savage (b. 1835) and Maranda Williams (b. 1849) in Missouri, married and died in Washington.

Maranda (my ancestor) was James Henry's second wife, after Catherine Pittman. Catherine and James Henry had six children, Maranda and James had two sons including Elmer.

James Henry is probably the son of William Bolin Savage and Lucy Ross, both born around 1810, and is the youngest of three (Mary Mildred, b.1831, William Riley b. 1833)

I have lots of more recent Savage data and anecdotes from decendents of James Henry and William Riley who were born in the West: cousins of my father to varying degrees, with whom he corresponded in the 1960's and 70's trying to untangle the family tree.

There are other Elmer E. and E.E. Savages in census data who are not my Elmer.

Let me know if you think I have data you might want.

I find some records in the online Washington State Digital Archives, including Elmer and Daisy's marriage certificate and the new marriage to Irwin ELLIS. The Garfield County death date for Elmer is given as 27 Dec 1913.

Elmer Ellesworth Savage, d. Pomeroy 1913

I'm seeking any information about my g-grandfather, Elmer Ellesworth Savage, 1 July 1886, Whetstone Hollow, Columbia, Washington - 29 January 1913, Pomeroy, Garfield County, Washington

He was dying of T.B. when he took his own life. My grandmother, Mary Madeline Savage, was only three months old, and I have been unable to document her birth to Daisy Mae Wick on 12 October 1912 in Pomeroy. Daisy May remarried and "Madeline" was called by her stepfather's name, Ellis, though I don't know if she was actually adopted.

Since this is your first post on Rootsweb...at least under this user name... When you post, it is very important to post what information you have, especially date of births, place of birth, etc. You "appear" to have US Census information, so that would help deter others from repeating what you know, or what they believe to be, when in fact it often isn't. Be specific in your postings. The possibility that a family member will read the posting is far less than a volunteer researcher trying to help.

She was the daughter of John Perkins, born 1816, died 1910 and Derissa A, born 1923. Emma married James Porter Watson 1854 to 1915 and had a child Alva Nelson Watson, 1884 to 1945.

First, obits back in that time period were not as common as today, unless a person was rich, famous, infamous or had died to a newsworthy accident or homicide. A true obit was written by a reporter. Many family members did not want to pay for an in-depth notice for many reasons, cost, the member didn't live in the area long enough, people that would have known they died-probably did, etc. There could be a funeral notice, but it wasn't much more than an advertisement for the funeral home.

White pages. com? That type of search NEVER works, especially for a name such as Perkins, over such a long period of time. A phone directory search over a few years to maybe longer is depending on the last name and place. Maybe try a phone directory found in a library for 1920???? Duh.

Hi, J. N. Perkins was John N. and his last appearance on a Census was the June 1898, Garfield Co., WA Census. He was 82 and a doctor.

His wife D. A., Dorisa, or Derrissa (depending upon the Census) last appeared on the same Census.

They died before the State required death certs. Garfield County might have something about their death, http://wei.secstate.wa.gov/WEI/Garfield/Recording/ .

The 1889 Garfield Co., WA Census shows they had a daughter Lillie, 21, b. Oregon. However, she doesn't appear on a subsequent Census and I assume she married. You could contact the County about a marriage license too.

I also checked www.whitepages.com for Perkins in Pomeroy but nothing appeared.

In 1880 the family lived in Columbia Co., Washington Territory. Their son Alvah was living with them there. He was 22 and b. in Oregon.

In 1870 the family lived in Weston, Umatilla Co., OR and they had a lot of daughters at that time. You'd have to trace who all the daughters married to find the descendants.

--There is a Dwayne L. Warren, born 12 April 1928, died 26 January 1996. His Social Security Number, 534-20-2972 was issued in Washington. His "last residence" was Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona.
- In the Social Security Death Index, it lists persons that have died whose deaths are reported to the Social Security Administration. The "last residence" is not necessarily were a final benefit check had gone. It could be the address where the Death Benefit was sent, today about $255.00, to a spouse or other person that paid for burial, funeral home/Attorney/etc. It also could be just from a notification of their death. It is not necessarily where they died, it "usually is; but it is NOT a exact address identifier.

Hi, the best way that I know of to find descendants is to find the obits of people listed in the 1930 Census. After I find the obit, I use www.switchboard.com to find contact info.

I found Jason Warren and family living in 1910 in Gridley, Butte Co., CA. Jason, b. MO, 56 yrs old, marr 30 yrs, farmer home farm; Lulu E., wife, b. IL, 48, had given birth to 8 children & 5 were alive in 1910; Myrle, son, b. WA, 18; Alice P., b. WA, 17 and Harvey E., b. WA, 15.

In 1920 most of the same family is living in Gridley. Merl, head household, b. WA, 27, general farmer; Lilie, wife, b. IL, 19; Lulu E., mother, b. IL, 58, widow; and Alice M., sister, b. WA 25, single, sales lady clothing store.

A Lilly May Warren [Lilly May Bull] b. 1 Dec 1901, IL died 12 May 1989, Butte Co., CA. Mother's Maiden name-Kinnaman; Father's Surname=Bull. Source: CA Death Index 1940-1997.

A Myrle Warren, Last Residence-=Gridley, Butte, CA was born 25 July 1891 and died March 1972. His soc. sec. # was assigned in CA before 1951. Source: Social Security Death Index.

I don't know how to get obits from these different counties in CA but you can post that question on the respective County Boards. Then look up the descendants on www.switchboard.com for contact info.

Seeking descentdants of Cyrus Warren

I am seeking information about the descendants of Cyrus Warren who migrated to Southeast Washington in the 1870’s.

Cyrus married Emeline/Amelia/Emily Hartung, a native of Germany in 1845.

He had a daughter, Julia Abigail, born c.1846 in Ohio. All his other children were born in Lawrence County, Missouri.

In the 1870’s his sons Jason and John Cyrus migrated to Asotin County, Washington. Daughters Ida Jane, Amanda Lois, and Elvira apparently came with them. The mother, Amelia, followed but Cyrus stayed in Missouri and is buried there.

Jason stayed in Asotin County for some time and then moved to Gridley, California.

John Cyrus is buried in Dixie, Walla Walla County, Washington.

Amelia is buried in Peola, Garfield County, Washington

Ida Jane is buried in Idaho.

Amanda is buried in Clarkston, Asotin County, Washington.

Elvira is buried in Spokane, Washington

Emma is buried in Kalispell, Montana.

Any information regarding this Warren line would be greatly appreciated.

Joe and Sue Van Ausdle live in Pomeroy (Gerald and Bonita's son and daughter in law. I'm not sure is Cleora (Oscar's wife) is still a live. She lived on Main Street. Gerald and Bonita had a daughter named Carol but I do not know who she married.

Louis S. Miller (transcribed as Milles), age 28 (1901/1902), born in Oregon to father born in Illinois, mother in Missouri, was a salesman for Shell Oil Company
Lottie, age 34 (circa 1895/1896), born in Idaho, to father born in Ohio, mother in Missouri, was a school teacher.
They were living in the home of the mother of Lottie, the penmanship in the actual census image is terrible, at first look appears to be Adelleh? Denale? But, after further review it does appear to be "Dunham". Louis S is identified as "soninlaw" (spelled in one word), Lottie is "daughter". The mother was 76, a widow, born in Missouri, to father born in Virginia, mother in Kentucky.

The World War I Draft Registration Card images show Joseph Rollin Dunham, born July 27, 1874, age 44, living in Nez Perce, Idaho. He was a farmer, married to Maude m. Dunham.

I find Joseph Dunham, born 27 July 1874 was son of Joseph Rollin Dunahm and Adella Gammon. He married Maud Crumpacker on 4 Dec 1904 in Nez Perce, Idaho. They had a daughter Helen Dunham.

Adella married Joseph Rollin Dunham on 7 Sep 1873 in Keokuk, ?. She was born on 14 April 1854 in Kahoka, Missouri and died in 1946 in Pomeroy, WA. Joseph Rollin Dunham was born on 30 October 1850 in Kahoka, Missouri and died on 4 Feb 1913 in Orofino, Idaho.
They had 11 children, Lottie L Dunham was born on 20 Sep 1895. She first married a Nat Ramsey on 27 Dec 1909 in Elmore, Idaho.
People with information on Adella is a Lance Boe Lboe@msn.com (email of August 2001). He had most of the information on the family and the 11 children.

I don't know if this is your father (which I suspect). If his is true, when was he born and where? Where and when did he die? This will help us.

The cemetery listings (transcriptions) for Pomeroy are not complete, or online. So, I can't find when and where Lottie may have been buried.

Now, back to the crime scene and what clues you need to find.

For your father. If you have his date of birth, date of death, obtain his obituary. It may identify some clues. BUT, if you have his DOB/DOD, then he can "probably" be found in the Social Security Death Index. That will identify his Social Security Number (SSN). You can request a copy of the actual form that he filed (the SS-5) to obtain his SSN. That form will identify the names of his parents.

Obtain his death certificate. Someone provided information on him and his family that may be additional clues. Sometime that information is wrong, because family members did not know the correct information. But, it is a record that you should obtain. Also obtain his birth certificate. It will identify his parents names.

If you know of ANY family members to your side (same age) or above you (parents, siblings of your parents), ASK them what they know. Dig out any old family picture albums, etc.

One "law" about genealogy, you can NOT assume anything. You can not guess. Again, it's like a crime scene. If you "guess" you could send the wrong person to prison...or in this case, to your family tree. You must look at every possible source of information.

I looked at the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness:
(Correctly found at: http://www.raogk.com/washingt.htm ) But there does not seem to be a volunteer in those counties.

Continue to post in the Garfield AND Columbia County message boards and mailing lists. Take a look at their respective websites for any assistance... Yes, I know, you've done this.

As far as paying for research at the "Roth House", I would say DON'T. Especially at this time. I am NOT familar with this society, but I wouldn't pay until you KNOW just who you have. There are just too many having the same names. There are just too many "reputable" companies willing to take a profit over wrong information. There are also so many GOOD and reputable volunteers that can help you. But, as I've said on many sites, you HAVE to find them here before crossing the sea. If they can't be traced in the USA, there may be a reason of one type or another.

I wish you great luck in this. Genealogy is sometimes VERY hard, but the rewards in the finds are well worth the efforts.

I looked at your website and then started reviewing census history...then found your family tree on Ancestry.com. That was more helpful than the website. I would also change your website to run from the Oldest Generation down, it was confusing. I actually had to re-write it for my own understanding.

First, the apparent question. You posted on the Garfield County Rootsweb site looking for Mathias and Edward; but all of the data found on Michael indicates that he lived in Columbia County. It does show Edward, uncle, living with Michael in 1880, but nothing is found on Mathias. Do you have data that shows Mathias coming or being in the US? Or in Garfield County, not Columbia?

I've been doing genealogy for YEARS and have some questions or comments.

Michael's age.
The 1870 census shows an M. Buckley, which may or may not be him, age 33 (1836/1837)
The 1880 has him as 42 (1837/1838)
The 1883 WA Territorial Census has him as born about 1835
The 1887 WA Terr. Census has him born about 1835
The 1889 WA Terr. Census has him born about 1836.
The 1900 US Census has him born about November 1832.
Your data on Ancestry.com shows him as born November 1831. I don't know if you have more or other information. But, I have found the birth information in the 1900 Census is often wrong. The other census show him as born later.

---Again, the US Census is often wrong. The enumerators made mistakes in math, the family members sometimes didn't know...Or his wife didn't know. Just be careful on the date until you can find his emigration data from Ireland.

You mentioned his obituary, you indicated "his own obituary". Do you mean that he wrote it himself ? If so, it might have more credibility than one written by someone else.

I tried to find him in the LDS Family Search site: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp Negative results as far as search with the father identified as Mathias; but, there are many Michael Buckley born in the right time period.

I don't know what searches you've tried to find him in Ireland. Most of my experience has been in tracking the emigration of Norwegians. Norway has excellent databases and are FREE. For Ireland, I've done basically none. I used a search engine to see what I could find as far as data. I see a lot of pay sites, which may or may not be worth the funds.

Ancestry.com does have some databases. I ran "Michael Buckley" in the database "Irish Immigrants: New York Port Arrival Records, 1846-1851". It found 29. A couple of them, have possibilities, unfortunately it doesn't include the image. I ran "Mathias" with negative results.

One last comment. I read your post in the Ireland, General, site. I would suggest that you limit your information to just Mathias and Edward, and to Michael. The extra information on your grandfather, on Casilia are extraneous and limits the interest.

The funeral of Michael Buckley, an old pioneer, who died at St. Mary's Hospital early yesterday of pneumonia, will take place from St. Patrick's Catholic church. Interment will be in the Catholic cemetey. Michael Buckley was one of the oldest residents of the Walla Walla valley coming here in 1863 from the mines of California. He took up his residence at Chard Station about 20 years ago. He was aged 73 years. - W.W. Union.

I was wondering, about the Roth house, all the places I have posted or written to about my family in Ireland including Catholic churches have recomended them, and I am not just looking for Mathias over there, I am also looking for Michael and his brother William. Okay, I did the website quite some time ago, and forgot all about it. It is quite out dated. I am going to try and go through all your questions one by one, so you have all the right information. I am very excited to have your interest in this, I could use the help, especially on the Ireland end of things, and before 1870.
Here we go. The first question was about Michael living in Columbia County instead of Garfield, this is because Garfield was Columbia until 1881, when they named it Garfield after the president. Before it was Columbia County is was Walla Walla Territory.

I have the information on Uncle Ned, living in and around the area, but the last piece of his information, his cemetery records obit I can not find. I actually have no information other than oral history stating that Matthias and his wife ever set foot in the USA. However this oral history was actually put in a historical book in the early 1900’s that Michael came to the USA when he was 8 yrs old with his parents, lived in NY until 17, and went to school there. He then went to California via cape horn. I realize that the census has a much different date, but this JUST occurred to me could it be that, that date is the date he arrived in California? He would have been 17.

Michael’s age in the census never seems to be correct, however I am certain that the ones I have listed are actually him. His Gravestone says 1831, so that is what I go with.
I have his obit, but I assume it was written by someone other than him. However he was well known in the town, and there was his wife. However she was later admitted to an insane asylum, so we can’t be sure how accurate it is.

I have done soooooo many searches, I cant even remember them all, and what I have found is that for information in Ireland, I have decided that I need to go through a place called the Roth House. They are a historical society in Kilkenny, and they have told me that they DO indeed have information on my family. However they do charge 99 Euro, and last time I checked that was over 130 dollars, so it will be a while before I can do that.

I have not been able to find any certain any information on him or his family before 1870, and that is what I am really interested in at this point. Let me know what you think, and thank you for all your ideas and suggestions I look forward to getting more.

An article about the hanging can be found on the Washington State Secretary of State old newspaper website. Here is the link to the search page:

It is actually a sad story, as vigilantes stormed the jail and lynched him. The article states his widow and children took his remains to Pomeroy for burial.

The archives show he was tried in Columbia County, Washington State.

My grandfather is not listed on the census. He is back with the family in 1910 and obviously was around before that since my dad was born in 1905 in Willada, Whitman County. The oldest child, Nettie was dead from TB before 1905 and is buried in a cemetery just outside of St John. Have you seen anything in your research in the area about William R. Graham. When and where was Lottie born? Was Lottie her first name or was that a shortened version of Charlotte?

When and where was William Stephen Miller born? What was your father's name and when and where was he born?

When and where was Ella Miller born? What was her husband's name? Was she married?

When you enter a request you need to supply all the info you know. We just have to have more info to work with; especially with a surname as common as Miller.

You can send an email asking for an obituary to askalibrarian@secstate.wa.gov. They will search the newspaper microfilm for one hour for free & email the results to you.

I'd also check out www.rootsweb.com, choose databases, choose USA, choose Washington, choose Garfield county and see if they have any old obits posted. Rootsweb and USGenWeb are wonderful resources!

You could try Random Acts Genealogical Kindness, www.ragk.com and see if there is a volunteer in that county or one next to it who would do a look up.

I need to clarify who I am, William Stephen Miller. My wife and I share an ancestry.com account. She is Lydia. Since posting my short curt inquiry (I think I left my computer and that is what got posted) I found most of what you posted. My father was Louis Garrison Miller b.13 Sept 1932 d. 21 April 1989. His father was Louis L Miller b. 1902 in Oregon d. 1967. He is buried in Pomeroy, WA. His father was Oliver Perry Miller, married to Martha J Garrison.

Lottie Dunham Miller was my grandmother, married to Louis L Miller. (Unknown what the "L" stood for. He went by "Ted").
Lottie was a school teacher, she died when my father was 4 years old, in 1936. I don't know what the cause of her death was. I have a copy of Lottie and Louis' marriage license app. They only had one child, my father. My father then lived with Ella Miller, his aunt, in Pomeroy, WA all the way through high school. It is told in my family that there were some hard feelings with the Crumpackers over where my father was going to live.

I don't believe the Lottie Dunham married to Nat Ramsey is the same Lottie. She died in Mountain Home, ID in 1940. My Lottie died in Pocatello, ID in 1936.

I have picture of Reddick Hill Reynolds at age 50 and it says born Dec 18 ,1851 I have another picture of him standing by car with lady and child That is about the extent of my knowledge.I knew they were down in the Blues somewhere and had heard references to Pomeroy .I once heard they came out Missouri and came west with a family name Fulford .Harley,Reddick's son spent time up around Grangeville and Kooski Idaho, until one of brothers called Dode was broken out of the Cottonwood Jail,he died swimming the Spokane river and is buried under an alias ,but back to Harley he and his wife Sidoney came from Ferdinan I Idaho to Omak Wa.his wife had two children by a previous marriage and her andHarley had a son and daughter.Harley was a horseman extraordinare in all repsects he could ride rough stock and trained and ran racehorses. I have looked in the burial records for the Pomeroy City Cemetery, and the headstones readings from the country cemeteries in Garfield county, and there is no listing for Samuel Jones. That's all the records except Catholic Cemetery. Was he Catholic?

My sister answered a letter asking for research on Samuel T. Jones, in 1981. She traced him back to Linn co., Oregon through the Oregon Donation Land Claims. He lived in Asotin, Wa., and was there as early as 1882. It sounds to me they were not the same person.

Do you have a name for Samuel's second wife? If she was from a Garfield co., WA family it may lead to some info.

They lived at Peola, which is a flat area about 5 mi. X 5 mi. on the edge of the Blue Mountains. This flat is divided about half in Asotin county, and half in Garfield co.
Do you know if Irene was related to the Long family that settled on Pataha Flat? It is a area about the same size as Peola, but west across the Pataha Creek Canyon, all in Garfield County. I couldn't find a grave site for Irene in Garfield County. What cemetery is she in? Were they Catholic?

Just received your message about the VanAusdle family. Gerald and his wife lived at the end of the alley from my parents in Pomeroy not far from the swimming pool and golf course. I did find Orval Van Ausdle in the cemetery listing in Walla Walla, Washington. Orval is listed born in 1915 and died 1985. His wife, Mary B. was born July 28, 1870 and died in February 5, 1942. Gerald's Dad was Oscar and for years were in the carpenter profession.

I know live across the lake from Branson, Missouri but the first 28 years of my life, I lived in Pomeroy. My maiden name was Helke, parents Floyd and Ruth Helke.

I don't know if this will help at all but, I know there were Dolan's in Troy, Montana in the early 1900's. Troy is located in the north western corner of Montana. The Dolan family that I know about is Bill Dolan b. abt. 1905 mar. Alice Walker, she b. abt. 1905. Their children: Bill, b. abt 1925 and Rhea b. abt. 1925. My family was found in both Pomeroy, Garfield County, WA and in Troy, Montana, so who knows, it might be worth checking out.

Charles, Aaron Valentine, Lydia, Rhoda, Sofiona, Alexander, Levi, Luther, and Henry HULL.

Concerning Benjamin TABLER: I would appreciate any other information on his burial that you could find. We know that he died there and was supposed to have been buried there, but are having trouble locating his grave.

Most information provided on Rootsweb sites is completed by people just trying to help versus actual family. So, basic information is required, also just what information do you seek and what do you already have found. A researcher trying to help would need a date of birth, but since this family is identified by so many names, they should be easy to find in the US Census. BUT, do you already have all of that. A researcher could identify all the information from all the US Census, Birth records, etc...only to be told that you have all that.

Mrs. Irene Mullins, 32, wife of Cleve Mullins, former Clarkston photographer, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Scoggin, Thirteenth and Libby, was killed in an automobile accident yesterday morning 12 miles west of Walla Walla, according to word received by relatives here from the chief of police at Walla Walla. The car she was driving turned over three times. Mrs. Mullins and her two children, Kenneth and Lawrence, and a nephew, who were taken to a Walla Walla hospital injured, were enroute from their home at Longview to visit Mrs. Mullins' parents in Clarkston.
Mrs. Mullins with her husband resided in Clarkston for two years. She was born at Pomeroy, September 25, 1902, and spent her childhood there. The family had lived at Longview for several weeks.
Besides a widower, two sons and parents, she is survived by three brothers and four sisters, Marvin, Melvin and Wayne Scoggin, Clarkston; Mrs. Vera Thornton, Mrs. Opal Vaughan, and Mrs. Flossie Fellows, Pomeroy, and Miss Pearl Scoggin, Clarkston.

Thank you for your reply regarding George Earl Johnson. I think it is very interesting that Zalmon Johnson's first wife's last name was Earl (my gr grandfather's middle name.) Do you know if this Zalmon Johnson died in Marshall County, Illinois?

George Earl was born in LIcking County, Ohio in 1828. So if Zalmon is indeed his father, then Zalmon's first wife would have been his mother. George then went to Marshall County, Illinois where he married.

I did not have Zalmon's first wife's name until now so if you have additional info on Zalmon it would be so appreciated.

Josiah Buttrum was my husband's gggggrandfather. He married Lucinda Zumwalt in Mo. then picked up most of the family and moved to WA about 1877/78. They are buried in the Pioneer Cemetary at Pomeroy. WW Benjimen married Carrie Buttrum. Bartlet Brooks married Sarah Buttrum. I show Brooks died in Pomeroy but his funeral was paid for by his son-in-law in Portland. So maybe he died in Portland. Is he buried in Pomeroy? I can not find a thing about Brooks or his family other than he was a Mason in Alabama. I think he was born in Georgia. WW Benjamin was born in Oregon and married at the home of Josiah in Pomeroy. Have no information about him either.

I am curious to know when and how the Buttrums came to WA. I think she (Zumwalt) had relatives in Oregon (Lane Co.) She died at 102 in Cathlamet and is buried with her husband.

Also, looking for Joseph Piggot who married Anna Brooks, daughter of Sarah and Bartlett. He was an ME minister, I think in the Pomeroy area in the late 1880's.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Looking for any information on John Wesley Bly- born 1862 in Illinois and died 23 August 1953 in Clarkston. He is buried in Pomeroy, Washington where he and his wife resided. His wife, Harriet Eliza Bratcher Bly, was born 1870 in Illinois and died 9 December 1964 in Clarston at the Riverside Nursing Home where she went to live after the death of her husband. They are both supposively buried in the Pomeroy City Cemetery. They had a son, Thomas Lloyd Bly, that lived in Lewiston, Idaho at their deaths, a second son, Talmage Bly, who lived in Bellingham, Washington, and Sol Bly who lived in Portland, Oregon. When Elizabeth married RICHARD W MORRIS in Warren co. KY, July 24, 1804. A person for Security of the wedding was John Johnson, was this a relative, perhaps father or brother? A roster should show his name in the Indian wars, but I am on sure of it as yet.

The information I have is that Clara is the daughter of Isaac and Lemira (Johnson) Vanausdle. Clara was born in Union Twp, Wayne Co., Iowa. She married John Carr in 1/8/1880.
They had three children, one died as a baby 2/28/1884, Carrie Francis Carr and Alfred Reed Carr. Carrie died 3/7/1901 and Alfred Reed died 7/17/1905. Alfred Reed married Ada Ruark and they had one sone, Orville. The information I have says that the children died of TB. John A. Carr died 11/29/1888 and Clara died 10/5/1885.

Dear Jean, I see you went to school with some Weimer's? I am looking for my g grandfather, Joseph Weimer. He moved to the state of WA around 1898 and may of settled in Garfield Co. They had at least one son, Michael Donald Shields, born apx. 1931. George Shields died at an early age (year unknown). Sherry remarried changing her last name to Caston. Sherry died 08/05/74. Michael Donald Shields would be around 70 years of age. It's possible that he might be living in Garfield County.

There is a correction to be made though. The Knettle that married (2) Myra Benson is Leroy N. Knettle b. Sep. 14, 1880 Columbia, WA - d. Mar. 15, 1956 Colfax, WA buried in Pomery, WA. m. (1) Agness Estella Kindlay. There are 2 children of his first marriage and 6 to his second.

I with the help of others are documenting the decendants of the Knettle line, please let me know if you are interested in helping with the research.

Thank you, Thank you! You helped a great deal. You helped add missing pieces to the tree in connection to John A. Knettle. I was not aware of who he married nor his children. John A. Knettle is the s/o Jacob N. Knettle & Phoebe Dick both of Pennsylvania. Jacob was born Feb 26, 1815 possibly Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania and died 15 Jan 1900 I believe in Carroll Co., IN. Phoebe July 11, 1821 in PA to 12 Feb 1857 in IN. I checked some of my records and found that Jacob had a Harrison Davis age 23 living with him in 1880. I wonder how this Harrison Davis connects to Mary. My main goal is to connect Jacob to the Cumberland County, PA Knettles dating back to the early 1600's as well as document his descendants. Just read your Sept 4 post re Lemira Johnson Vannausdle, sister of my great great grandmother Jane Marie Johnson Messenger. My Wayne County Iowa Cemeteries book says that Lemira and Isaac are buried in the New York Cemetery, Union Township, Wayne County, row 15 1/2 site 4. The date of death is the same as you gave. Was she out here in Pomeroy and her body returned to Wayne Co. or was it just assumed that she had come out with her children after Isaac died?? Jane Marie did come out here after her husband died. She died while visiting her son in Brush Prairie and was brought to Kirby Cemetery near Pomeroy. By the way, Jane & Lemira's mother is buried in 15 1/2 site 3 and their brother Joel and his wife, Sarah are 15 1/2 sites 1 & 2. The only thing I have on the Rigg name is that it is Nora's married name. I had her as Nora B b 26 May 1893 to Charles Franklin and Mary Swain Van Ausdle. My interest is that Nora's Grandmother Lemira Johnson Van Ausdle was my great great grandmother's sister (Jane Marie Johnson Messenger).
I would be very interested in what information you have on the Johnsons and the Wheelers. Most of my Van Ausdle/Vannausdle info is from Donna.. also a writer on this board.

I've been reading your messages over and even charting the families to have them straight. I took a notion that I ought to check out the cemetery book better!! Immediately under Isaac and Lemira's entries (which have the heading for all three as Vannausdle) is:
Mary E. daug. of I. & L. Died May 21 1865 age 15 yr. 11 m. 11 d. [which fits your June 10 1849 date]
So then I checked on your Clara with the three names you gave as married names: no last name of Carrie; no Reed that fits (altho there was a Carrie Reed) but guess what:
Carr, Willie son of J. A. & C Carr Died Feb. 27, 1884 age 5 m. 22d.
Clara wife of J. A. Carr Died Oct. 5, 1883 age 26 yr. 6 m. 3 d. [which fits your April 2 1857 date.]

Do you, by any chance, have this family on the 1850 census???

Hope I have given you something to think about. I am wondering if Lemira was at her niece's (Mary Messenger Ruark) 50thanniversary/family reunion in 1903 in Pomeroy.

I do not know if Garfield Co. has marriage applications that might show parents' names. Supposedly John Sharp was from Idaho and was born with another surname and adopted by the Sharps.

He was in Riverside California by 1921 when he married my great great grandmother Selma Charlotta Svenson Nelson PETERSON. Selma was widowed and this was her second marriage.

Hello,
My Great grandmother is Nora Elizabeth Van Ausdle she was married twice: first to Charles Herman Rains then to my great grandfather Leland Earl Rigg.
My mom and I have been doing the Family history for a long time and we have tons of information on the Van Ausdle, Rigg, Swain, Wheeler, Johnson familes.
The Books that I have with me are on the Rigg Family.
Would you have any information on the Rigg Family.
If so could you or anyone help me / us out.
Incase you are wondering who my mom is her name is Ginger.

Info on Great Grandfather

Great Grandfather Benjamin Meyers with wife Anna and children Margaret and James W in 1880 Columbia County Census shown at Twp 8 & 9N of Rng 44E, which would be in what is now Garfield County. Looking for birth of additional children (especially one named Ben) between 1881 and about 1887 before he left family due to divorce, death or other. Also interested in land or other records with family history information. Family may have moved to California by 1900.

hello barbara, how i wandered into this garfield county i don't know.anyhow i went to school with david and sally bartels. at holy rosary school. are you any relation? anyway i have been doing research on thomas ward,carrie scoggin,martin phlug for some time. charles phlug ward was my uncle.he was never married. he was carrie scoggin's son and grandpa thomas ward's stepson.I heard from a lady in canada who's gr-uncles were a brother to martin phlug.they had been seaching for carrie scoggin and didn't know what had happened to her and martin .if you need anymore info on this line to let me know. also the palmer's are my relation also and i have info on them.

I am also searching for an August PETERSON who was married to Mathilda WORKEN, who was born Oct 1886 at Sacred Heart, Renville, Minnesota. They were said to have lived in Ericson Twp, Renville, MN. The WORKEN family was from Norway and this is possibly his first marriage. I am trying to find any descendants of Methilda WORKEN PETERSON. Some of the female WORKEN cousins who married, also migrated to Washington state between 1915 and 1920.

If you have any other information that can be compared, would appreciate hearing from you.

Scoggin Family

I have just traced my grandfathers 2nd wife back to a scoggin family in Garfield. Her name was Stella Irene and she was the daughter of Jasper M. and Nellie Scoggin. Stella married a man with the last name of "Davidson" around 1920 and had two sons (Lawrence and Kenneth). Later she married my grandfather William Grover Cleveland Mullins. She is shown with him in the 1930 Asotin County WA census with her sons. I don't know what happened to her but my grandfather adopted her boys and married my grandmother (the boys always had the name of Davidson so it may not have been an adoption)
Anyway I have a ton of pictures of Stella Irene Scoggins and her sons and I would like to share information with anyone knowing anything about the Scoggin family or Davidson family.

I am looking for information on my Great Great Grandparents Cornelius and Ellen McGreevy. He was born is 1837 in Ireland. Lived in Iowa, then moved to WA territory. Lived near Sprague, and eventually homesteaded in/near Tekoa. I would sure like to find out where they are burried.

I am still looking for Frankie Vannausdle, Her father is Frank Vannausdle (my grandfather) her mother is Ina Victoria Evans. Frankie was born sept. 6, 1917 Garfield Co. Later she was living in Dayton, Wa. I can not find where or when Ina died or if she remarried after my grandfather went back to grandmother Martha Johnson. Also I can not find if Frankie has passed away or if she ever married.

Rueben and Mary Elizabeth would be my ggrandparents and Elizabeth is Ruebens sister. Rueben and Mary Elizabeths children are: Albert, Olive, Jennie, Edward, Clara Frank(my grandfather) Lucy, Lester,Oradell May, Florence. I have all the dates of birth and informattion from Oradell's daughter. And alot more I am in the process of putting this all in my computer again.

I hjave Lemira Levina died in Garfield Co. and Buried in Wayne Co. Iowa with Isaac. This New York Cemetery is that in Wayne Co. Iowa? or New York?Jane Marie is Lamira's daughter and I have Samuel Johnson as Lemira's father. My grandmother Martha's dad was Samuel Johnson that married Sarah Jane Keller, they can't be the same Samuel. I also have Lemira's mother as Mary Wheeler. Can you give me some more info on this Samuel Johnson & Mary Wheeler. I can't find any info on the oldest boy Jerome B. born Dec. 24, 1840 in Morgon Township Knox Co. Ohio

I have all the info on Rueben and Charles but not the others. Charles Franklin B. May 18, 1851 in Davis Co Iowa, D. May 23, 1932 In Pomroy. He Married Mary Swain Mary E. B. June 10, 1849 Morrow Co. Ohio. md. Fry no other info on Fry. Clara B. April 2 1857 Wayne Co. Iowa She Married John Carr #2 Reed #3 Carrie. I did know Lemaira & Isaac were buried together.Thank You very much.

Thank you for straightening this out for me. I am not sure who typed this in this book I have but when you posted your message I looked at it and the childrens names are listed in under the marriage with the dates the children were born. It only has the 2 children not willie. So it looks like different marriages. It wasn't marked as children.
Am I supposed to list this on the census?
Also, If I want to post a web site can I only post the deceased?

I wasn't saying anything negetive about my aunt. I think she did a real good job on this with the typewriter back in the "50's & 60's). My Aunt & uncle Edwin & Delores Vannausdle (dads brother) and dad went to New York and got the info. and when she typed this she new what she was thinking. But when she just had Reed & Carrie & dates I took it for marriages being it was under marriages.Info is easier to get now. This does get confusing. She probably didn't know about Willie.
It crossed my mind also if it wasn't child birth when I saw when Clara died! Their was another Clara b. 1/16/1876, D.3/02/1900 (My grandfathers Franks sister).The first Cara would be her aunt.I got an e-mail from David Raurk.
