Early 20th Century Newspapers in Franklin County

Survivors include his wife, Edna (Hudson) ; daughters, Mrs C. J. Boatman, Pasco; Mrs H. R. Laugnan, Darington; son Frank R. Boise; sister, Mrs George Trappman, Wenatchee and six grandchildren.

Gower Family

Thomas W. & Cora Gower came to Franklin County, Washington in 1949. At least one of their 3 sons was already living in Franklin Co. at that time and eventually they all moved there. All three of the sons were educators. The sons names were Barney E., Alvin W., and James L. I do have birth & death dates for Cora and the sons but do not know when Thomas died. I would also like to know what cemetery they are buried in and any other information available. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who can assist with this.

Comstock family of Franklin and Benton Counties, Washington

I am researching the ancestry of Arlin Eugene Comstock b. Aug. 25, 1922 Illinois, d. September 23, 1963; he was married to Gladys Berthiel Cruzen b. April 16, 1924, d. October 20, 2003 Kennewick, Benton, Wash.

Arlin's father was William Franklin Comstock. He came to Franklin Co., WA from Illinois in 1928 with his two sons, Arlin and Harold. Their mother, Mary, was previously married to a man named Simpson with whom she had two daughters. I believe their names were Ruth and Elma. When William and the boys came to Franklin Co., Mary and the 2 girls were not with them. The whole family is listed together on the 1920 census for Illinois, but the 1930 census shows just William and the 2 boys in Washington.

I am looking to find some of the missing pieces to this story. Such as Mary's last name and parents, or if she divorced William too and stayed with the girls in Illinois, or if she died and the girls went to live with their father etc.

Any information or family contacts which will help to understand what happened or point towards related family member would be helpful and very appreciated.

I'm seeking any information on the family of Almeda Langford Lillard Hunt (b. 1875, Arkansas, d. 1967, Pasco, Franklin County, Washington). She married Moses P. Lillard (b. 1861, TN) August 9, 1896, Indian Territory). They moved to Eltopia, Franklin County, Washington in 1902. Mrs. Hunt was an early pioneer of that region. They were farmers by trade. After M.P. Lillard died, Almeda married Thomas Hunt of Yorkshire, England in June of 1951. She had a son and daughter from her previous marriage: Alvin A. Lillard who died in 1948 and Delia Iva Lillard Huber (1904-66). Mrs. Hunt's parents were Rufus B. Langford (1842-1921) and Mary Mahilda Brown (1842-1929). Both were born in Indiana, and show up in the 1910 census in their mid-40s living on a farm about 9 miles outside of Connell.

I suspect Sarah/Sadie/Sudie's maiden name was Huey.

My grandfather moved to the Eltopia Washington area sometime around 1907, where he shortly died while digging a well on a farm. I have an undated, newspaper clipping about the well collapse, but I don't even know what paper it is from. All I know is that he died between 1907 and 1910. My Grandfather, John William Hager (Johann Wilhelm Hager) died in Eltopia while digging a well on a farm. His brother in law was with him. I have a newspaper clipping of the story of the well cave in. But whoever found it, cut off the date and the paper's name. I am not sure of the date, but i believe he died in 1908. Researching a branch of my paternal famil that seems to have fallen & been lost over the years. Specifically, am looking for information regarding the death of a young cousin. Name: Danny Gene Eldhardt - born 15 October 1952 in Pasco or Richland WA - died 15 March 1968 - buried (I believe) in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland WA. I am looking for my sister-in-law's family. We found an Ella Day, a widow with sons Harry and John and daughters Maggie and Carrie in Connell in 1910. Is this Harry Day the Harrison Day who married Ida Flager, He was born 1890 and died 1978 in Kennewick. If so, it is my sisters great grandmother. I would like to find any kind of proof and also would like to know who was her husband. I did not find them in the 1900 census anywhere in Washington but if Harry was born in Washington in 1890 they should be there somewhere.

My sister-in-law 's father has passed away and her mother thinks she remembers there were relatives in Connell and the Tri-cities area. Maybe someone knows them or knows where they were buried or married etc.

Joe M'Manamon Dies In Tacoma
OTHELLO - Joseph E. McManamon, 60, Othello pioneer, died Wednesday of last week in Tacoma and funeral services were held Saturday in the coast city.

"Joe Mac," as we all knew him, was raised at Walla Walla where he got his education. He took a commercial course and then came to Adams county. Never of a robust physique he took to the open range and was a rider here among the early stockmen.

His brothers, George, Tom, Frank, Brick and Jim, all stockmen on Crab creek, kept Joe in the saddle several years. He finally took a homestead on the Grant county line where he made his home until he came to Othello in 1907, at the birth of the town.

He took deep interest in civic affairs and did much in its development. He served on the council and also as a school director and for many years was postmaster. He was a man whom others consulted in business matters more than any other in the history of the town.

Always a booster for Othello, we will miss him in our future development. He was appointed on the farmers' committee and will be missed there by the farmers of this vicinity.

He is survived by his son, Jack, Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Frank, Wenatchee; George, Lind; and James, Othello; and a sister.

Othello Pioneer Was Commissioner
James B. McManamon, 70, pioneer Othello rancher and one-time Adams county commisioner who died last Friday, was buried in the Lind cemetery Sunday following funeralservices at the Lind Methodist church with the Rev. R. Decker of Ritzville, officiating.

Mr. McManamon had been a resident of Adams county for the past 53 years and was well-known throughout Central Washington. He was commissioner from the third district from 1925-1931 and was at one time on the Othello school board.

He died at his ranch home near Deadman lake, west of Othello. His death was attributed to a heart ailment.

Mr. McManamon was born in Montana and with his brothers located on lower Crab creek in Adams county more than 50 years ago, engaging in the stock business, which he followed since that time.

He was married in 1901 to Miss Lucy Strong and they have made their home practically all this time on Crab creek. He was a member of the Oddfellows lodge and the Sandhills Grange.

His loss is mourned most deeply by Othello townspeople who knew him well. A. O. Lee, Othello pioneer, declared, "Jim was held in high esteem by all who knew him and held offices of public trust and during his term of office his constituency had no just cause to complain."

Besides his widow, Lucy, he is survived by a son, D. Thomas McManamon, Seattle, two daughters, Mrs. Derla Hunt, Bellingham, and Mrs. Frances Ottomeier, Four Lakes; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Barnes, Tacoma; and three grandchildren.

LIND - Funeral services for George Washington McManamon, 74, were held here at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. J. H. Bennett officiating. Burial was made in the Lind cemetery.

He was born in Ulrich Gultch, Mont., on Oct. 7,1864. Mr. McManamon has lived in this district over 60 years and was actively engaged in farming. He has also been a member of the K. P. Lodge for over 40 years.

Surviving his death are: one brother, James, of Othello, one sister, Mrs. William Barnes, of Tacoma; one son, Gilbert, of Everett, an adopted son, Ervin, Lacey, and one daughter, Mrs. Leota Longmeir of Lind.

I am searching for the Stevens family of the Pasco, Washington area.

In particular I am looking for a VEDA Stevens who lived at 220 Clark Street in May of 1917.

Her sister was a Cora Lindstrom who lived in Hillyard, Washington.

I do not know the name of Veda's husband but that the last name was Stevens....and the address and date they lived in Pasco.

Would you be able to obtain a city directory with Stevens name???
Would you be able to obtain a city census for 1920 with Stevens name for that address in Pasco???

Would you have any Stevens buried in your local cemeteries??? Especially that of Veda Stevens or of a Cora Grant???

Hello, I am researching early Eltopia, Franklin Co. Wa.. I would like ANY information I could get on the history of my house in Eltopia. I believe it was built about 1909 by J.A. Darby, and was first owned by either Fern Crain or a Mr. Bannermen. Later it was sold to Bud Phend. My father, Everett Jones, bought it from the Phends in 1950. My father has passed-away and I am living in the house now. Is there anyone out there (esp. relatives of the Phends) who could fill me in on the history of this house? Thanks, Dale Jones

P.S. I am also trying to restore a wooden kitchen table that was in the house when my dad bought it. I'm sure the table is over 100 years old now. It would be fun to know the history of this piece of furniture.

I am trying to find some information on Albert Lamont Herman born 11/26/1901 in Illinois and died 12/30/1946 in Pasco, Wa. At times he would use an alias - Albert or Bert or Lamont Nelson. Until I determine what name he was using when he died, my search is in vain. Would it be possible for someone to give me the name and number of the local paper or better yet, look to see if an obituary can be found. Once I determine the name used, I can find a death certificate etc.

He supposedly married a Margaret Reid in 1956
Rumour has it that it was in Walla Walla
His father, also from Quebec, was John Charles Reid. He passed away in 1940. Supposedly his wifes name at that time was Margaret Reid.

Looking for all the above surnames. Elias C. BRIM (my GGrandfather) and Mary Clementine LOVE came to WA late 1900. They first settled in Franklin Co., WA with Mary Clementine 's parents, John B. LOVE and Permelia Angeline SHIPMAN. Where two of Elias's sisters also remained for a duration. About 1910 Elias and his family moved to the Yakima area.

Would love to find lost cousins! My father passed away in 1989 and I have no knowledge where my second and third cousins may be. Would love to share pictures I have that were my grandparents. Thanks for taking time to read this.

FISHERMAN FELL DEAD ON EASTER

Vernon Ray Miller, 41, Richland, dropped dead near the old Carson depot, about 4 p.m., Easter Sunday. Gardner's Funeral Service was called and Miller's remains were transported to Pasco by Lee's Funeral Home.

The deceased, a security policeman at the Hanford atomic plant, had been sturgeon fishing with several companions.

Complaining of severe pains in his chest and feeling that violently ill, Miller started for the car.

Fishing being poor, his friends decided to knock off fishing and go to their cabin on Wind River. About 200 feet up the path from the river they found Miller dead.

I don't have the particulars, but those researching ancestors in Franklin county will be pleased to know that new records have emerged in the courthouse. It is undergoing extensive renovations and they found old boxes of records stored in a crawl space just this past week. The only ones I know for sure are some naturalization records, but there were others, too. I believe some will be sent elsewhere for storage now.

I wish I had more information... I'll see if I can find out more this week. Hope this may be of some help for those with "lost" ancestors in this area.

I am looking for my father's brother. Virgil Stroud born in Arkansas abt 1899. Soc Sucirty death index list a virgil Stroud born 25 may 1899 died dec 1981, Pasco, Franklin, WA. He was in TX 1940.

I am looking for information about an aunt and uncle that lived in Pasco,WA. His name is Adam Schwartzkopf and hers is Rosetta (Ida) Schwartzkopf. Adam died November 1982 and my aunt in the early 1990's. If anyone can point me in any direction as to obits to find where they are buried or any other info would be appreciated. To the best of my knowledge they did not have any children. Thanks to all for any leads I may recieve.

Allden's from Sweden>Ohio>WA

I am looking for any information on the Allden family. Some of them arrived from Sweden via Ohio. Anna Allden was the mother. I believe that her husband, Bengt, died in Ohio. There was a daughter Anna who married William Greeley. The other sons (that we know of) were Benjamin, Henry and Eugene. My G-Grandmother Gertrude was another daughter. She died in Delaware in 1914 and we know very little about her family. Is there any way to search death records online? I live on the east coast and can't get to WA. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
