The Hugh F kennedy you are talking about is actually a different person.

My Hugh F kennedy was born in Chicago, lived in NYC for a few years before going into the army in Nov of 1940.

Sometime in 1944 I believe, he married Mabel. I am assumingthis since his military records has Mabel listed as his wife.

He died in 1956.

Thanks for you assistance.

The Social Security Death Index:
Joseph F. Gaspers, born 24 Oct 1912, died Dec 1985, SSN issued in WA before 1951. "Last Residence" and "Last Benefit:" Wenatchee, Chelan Co, WA. The WA Death Index identified death on 24 Dec 1985 in Wenatchee.
WA Death Index: Magdalen G. Gaspers, died 5 June 1973 in Douglas Co.

For an FREE obit:
--The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. For an obituary: http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/Obituaries.aspx
Due to staff cuts, economy, mass requests, they are now taking up to six weeks.

The WA Digital Archives has an image of their marriage certificate:
http://media.digitalarchives.wa.gov/WA.Media/jpeg/9ADA098AD3...
The marriage was on 25 Nov 1937, both were residents of Wenatchee. Witnesses were Helen Miller and Ray Bomar/Bowar/?
There is also a record of a Joseph Frank Gaspers' application for marriage to Gertrude Graham Kendall on 9/17/1979 in Chelan County, no image.

US Public Records show "Joe F. Gaspers" born 24 Oct 1912 had lived at 511 Rock Island Road, East Wenatchee, no year given but between 1950 and 1993.
-
-The Chelan County Auditor
http://63.135.55.89/oncoreweb/
has a recorded document, a Quit Claim Deed, grantor Gertrude Kendall Gaspers, wife of Joseph F. Gaspers, quit claims to Joseph F. Gaspers, her husband, property. The document after recording was to be returned to Joseph F. Gaspers at 511 Rock Island Road. Document recorded on May 22, 1984.
--The marriage certificate of 1937 was found recorded.
--There were a number of other documents in the name of Joseph Gaspers, up to 9/2/2010.
--On 4/10/1984, Joseph F. Gaspers, a married man living at 511 Rock Island Road, quit claimed property for love and affection to Joseph W. Gaspers and Nitha M. Smith, tenants in common, 400 Austin Ave, Wenatchee.
--On 9/12/1988, Grantors Joseph W. Gaspers, Co-Personal Representative of the Estate of Joseph F. Gaspers and Nitha M. Smith, Co-Personal Rep of the Estate of Joseph F. Gaspers, deed to another party, property owned by the Estate.

It strongly appears from the documents that Joseph W is the son, or at least a close relative of Joseph F. Joseph's address can be found at www.zabasearch.com another record shows him with address/phone in Wenatchee. He was born about 1939, another indication of father/son relationship. I'd suggest contact of this person.

The other responder is/was connected to that genealogical society in Wenatchee, suggesting a fee based research is strongly frowned upon by Rootsweb/Ancestry.

Hi,
The 1940 U. S. Washington Census hasn't been totally indexed yet though it will be soon. To keep track on when it is indexed, check on familysearch.org.

Their obituaries will shed some light on family members, etc. The Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society provides copies of obituaries for $5/ea for non-members. They can be reached at www.wags-web.org/obits.html.

They can also look the couple of in the Chelan and/or Douglas County Directories for a research fee. Ask them if they have those directories from 1937 to however out in the future you want them to search. Successful Searching!

seems as though I might have responded before, but my Great Uncle Vern Adams owned the farm around the Pilot Rock possibly around 1950 or before & am not sure what the farm was called. My Dad Clarence Adams Jr bought the farm from his Uncle around 1962 and called it the Black Angus Ranch, then later changed it to Pilot Rock Ranch, which it is today. I lived on a farm about 10 miles north of the Pilot Rock for most of my growing up years and visited my GUncle often on the farm/ranch.
I don't remember the name of Horning growing up.

You mention the name William G. Richardson. I have a Great Great Aunt by the name of Catherine "Kate" (DeMuth)Brueshaber/Richardson who married William G. Richardson on December 14, 1896 in St. Croix County, Wisconsin.
Kate's first husband John Brueshaber died in March of 1896 in Minnesota, she then married William G. Richardson and moved to the Seattle, Washington area. On December 31, 1913 Kate was institutionalized at the Western Washington Hospital for the Insane at Fort Steilacoom, Pierce County, Washington. William and Kate may have had one child. They divorced on February 6, 1913.
Kate Richardson died on June 25, 1922 at Western Washington Hospital for the Insane. She is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle, Washington, next to her parents Nicholas and Clara DeMuth.
I was wondering if any of this may tie into the William G. Richardson that you mention in your posting, is so please contact me at the following:

k79lawrence@gmail.com

Thank you, Keith Lawrence

no, there is no paved road even near to the rock. There is a dirt road going as far as the rock, then a fence into other property. Can't get to it today without crosing private property and there doesn't appear to have been homes in that area other than the one Vern Adams and my family lived in.

Does a paved road go right by it? I remember passing this big rock, all by itself, about 20 ft. high, after leaving Mansfield and heading to my Great grandfathers homestead; big barn and 2 story home still standing: near the old Fairview school. My Great Aunt says they used to walk past that rock every day going to and from school. I had Horning family there in 1915-1920, but cannot connect my Hornings to this George Horning. Seems like the should have been related, but can't find any living family to verify. Thanks for everyones help. Mary
Pilot Rock is actually a very large rock, probably 20ft high, we use to climb it. I don't remember any graffiti at least 10 years ago, it is on private land so wouldn't be accessable to everyone. It sits under the power lines and is about 1/2 mile from the house.

The property that you are addressing is NW of Coulee City, WA. My father bought Pilot Rock Ranch in the early 1960s from his uncle, Vern Adams. I don't know how long Vern owned the property, but they raised their family there, so was many years before my father bought it. The property is now owned by Gary Adams (great nephew of Vern Adams)and it is located in Doulas County. We spent a lot of time walking to Pilot Rock , the legend being that the rock could be seen many miles away and was a land mark for generations back traveling by horse or wagon.

I do know that my grandfather was born in Daisy, Washington. Lydia and Franklin are his parents. Seems to me that this family went back and forth between Washington, Oregon and B.C.

Thank you so much for the info Ron..very much appreciated.

I hate to think that Willard abandoned them, but it is worth considering.

I do have most of what you found, except the land patent. Good idea to send for info.

As for the guardianship, I can't figure out why Lydia would be placed in it. Another mystery.

I'm fairly certain that Susie only married Willard and Matthew as I have photos of her at an old age at an unknown location with Harry and Leslie. Will have to do some more digging to find Emanda..

Once again thank you..you've given a few more leads that I didn't have.
I believe I'm related to the William R. Rash mentioned from North Carolina. I have a postcard dated Oct 22, 1886 from W.R. Rash (William R. b.1855)to his brother, my great-grandfather, J.M. Rash (Jesse Martin b.1853). William was a farmer in Knob Noster, MO writing to Jesse in Jennings Mill, Iredell Co, NC (now Union Grove, NC). They were 2 of 9 children born to Noah Rash (b.1826) & Rebecca Prevett (b.1834)in Jennings Mill, NC. I have info on some of the children; but nothing really on William. I would be happy to share my info on the NC Rashes & would appreciate any info on William. Jim Rash (James E.) Hickory, NC.

Bottom line first: The 1885 and 1887 are as you indicated; but, I wouldn't "assume" Willard had died until proof is found. He could have died, abandoned her, etc. I did a number of searches for this guy after 1885, without success. But, he could have gone anywhere. She will "probably" be found in Canada. If he did die between 1885 and 1887, why didn't Susie move? Insufficient monetary resources, family in the area, or waiting for him to come back?

You may have all of the below, I didn't and needed it for the research:

1880 Census for Suez, Mercer County, IL> Willard M. Wickson, born 1854 in New York, single, age 26, both parents born in New York.

1885: The 1885 Census for Badger Precinct is VERY washed out. Enumerated June 1885.
? ? (M.W? W.M?) Wixson? 30, born in NY
S.E. Wilson (transcribed as Wilson), age 24, born in IL
L. M. Wixson, 2, born in OR

1887: The 1887 Washington Territorial Census for Badger Precinct
S.E. Wixson, age 26(1865/1866), born in IL
L.M. Wixson, age 4(1882/1883), born in OR

1888: The Washington Digital Archives: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/Home has two images of the Wixson/Miller wedding. Input just "Wixs" to see both images. The image of the wedding certificate shows Susie E. Wixson marriage to Mr. Miller on December 12, 1888. The index has her name as WixsEn, it is also separately indexed as WixsOn. A letter from the "preacher" identifies Mathew Miller.

1890: The Washington Digital Archives: Shows a marriage between Susie Miller and Marcellus S. Cannon, both of Douglas County on 4/9/1890. The 1910 Census shows this couple in Whitman County, WA, she is 39, born in Pennsylvania. I'm leaving this for your future elimination if someone else connects to her.

1891: The Bureau of Land Management has a database of land patents issued under the Homestead Act (and other Congressional Land Grant Acts).
http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx#searchTabI...
It shows Susie E. Wixson, obtaining 160 acres of land on 5/21/1891. It was located in Township 25N, Range 22East, Section 15, the Northwest Quarter (of the Section). Here is Section 15 (in red). She obtained the top left corner (NW 1/4) of the Section. A Section is 640 acres, one mile in width/length. You can see it is just north of Waterville.
--I'd suggest ordering the application for the land patent: http://www.suite101.com/content/homestead-act-records-a26800
----The strangest thing here is the fact she obtained land as Susie Wixson not Susie Miller. BUT, the land could have been obtained prior to the land patent and she had completed the process for ownership under the Homestead Act:
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/ah-homestead.html

1895: The Oregon Archives: http://genealogy.state.or.us/ shows Lydia May Wixson, was placed in Guardianship in 1895 in Yamhill County, OR. She would have been about 12/13. So why was she in Yamhill County? This "could" be the location of family on the Wixson side...or even Willard's? I would suggest obtaining the full record of this event. Sometimes children are placed in these guardianship's awaiting family members to pick them up.

1901: The 1901 Census for the British Columbia, District of Yale & Cariboo, Subdistrict of Kootenay and Rossland
Mathew Miller, born Nov 27, 1859
Susie E, born Jan 1, 1861
Verna J, born Nov 1, 1893
Harry D, born July 23, 1895
Leslie A, born Feb 25, 1898
Lydia Wixson, Step-daughter, born Nov 23, 1883.
--The 1911 Canadian Census shows:
----Susan E. Miller, born January 1860, "Head" .
Emanda Naish, sister, born Sep 1849
Harry, son, born July 1895.
Lesley[sic] A., son born Feb 1897
All were living in New Westminster, Chilliwack Riding.

1902: The BC Archives: Lydia May Wixson married Franklin G. Hill in Grand Forks on January 15, 1902.
--Also from Family Search: Franklin G. Hill, age 27, born 1875 in Dundas Wentworth, Ontario, father John Hill, mother Martha Green, marriage to Lydia May Wixson, 19, born 1883 in McMinnville (Yamhill Co), Oregon, father Willard Wixson, mother Susan E. Wright.

I found three family trees showing a Susie Wright, but they had no information past the 1880 census, none showed a sister Emanda.

The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness has volunteers in BC. READ the guidelines FIRST: http://www.raogk.org/bcolumbia.htm
There is none for Douglas County, WA.

Douglas Cemeteries: http://www.mrail.net/wash/douglas.htm I went through them without success.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

Hopefully someone can help me find the death dates of my 3rd great grandparents:

Willard M Wixson (spelling variations, Wixon, Wickson) born abt. 1854 in N.Y. Last residence known 1885 Douglas Co. Badger Precinct (census)

married:

Susan Eliza Wright born Jan 1 1861 Illinois. Also on 1885 census with Willard. On the 1887 census Willard is not listed, only their daughter Lydia May. Susan married Mathew Miller (b. Nov 27 1859 -d. betw: 1901-11) on Dec 12 1888 at her home in Douglas co.

Therefore, Willard died between 1885-87. Can't find any death info. Not sure if Susie and Mathew stayed in the area as Mathew's home was in Grand Forks, B.C.
Thank you for any help.
I want to thank you for all of your help and suggestions.

I do have Hugh's death certificate. His death certificate only says that he was married - no name of spouse. So no clue who his wife was. Any information that was mentioned on the death certificate was taken from VA hospital records.

It also stated that he served in WW II and before being admitted into the V.A. hospital in Spokane (actually he was ther for 50 days), the certificate states he lived at 416 C Columiba, Coulee Dam, Washington.

I took a chance and contacted the funeral home that handled his transfer to Chicago, but I didn't get any kind of response.

No one in the family really knows anything about Mabel. Only that she may have been a nurse.

I do beleive that his enlistment in New York is right since his brothers John and Dennis lived in the New York area at the time. I am just not totally sure if Hugh was a pow during WW II since I am sure there are many Hugh Kennedys.

Thanks again for your guidance.

One additional point we have failed to discuss, we can't "assume" Mable was from Washington State. Is there a chance she and Hugh had married in/around Illinois before he went out to Washington State?

I do find a Mable Kennedy marriage on August 22, 1959, to a William Echols in Cook County, IL. I am NOT indicating this is the correct person, as there are probably MANY, Many, Mable Kennedy; but don't forget to add the search for her to Illinois.

Concerning the POW Status of a Hugh F. Kennedy, this information comes from the National Archives from a listing received from the Japanese:

http://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-detail.jsp?dt=2212&mt...

Hopefully that link will work. Otherwise:
Hugh F. Kennedy, First Lieutenant, Serial Number O&8990457, a Chaplain, on the roster of the Cabanatuan Liberation (The POW camp I detailed in the previous posting).

This link indicates Hugh F. Kennedy's State of Residence had been New York. So, is this information wrong? I see your family tree also shows POW information to a Hugh Francis Kennedy, but it also shows New York as home of residence. http://aad.archives.gov/aad/record-detail.jsp?dt=466&mtc...

There is an enlisted man, Hugh Kennedy, from Cook County, Illinois, identified in the enlistment records for 1942. But, this person was shown as born in 1899.

So, there is no answer readily available. Records indicate the POW Hugh F. Kennedy was an officer, a chaplain, from New York. There does not appear to be another Hugh Kennedy from Illinois. It "appears" your Hugh Francis Kennedy may not have served in WW II. But, you may have records to support his service.

This issue could also be cleared up by the use of City Directories of Illinois during the war years. BUT, here again, he may have gone elsewhere.

Please post if you have information on this.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

From your other postings:
---Hugh Francis Kennedy, died 25 April 1956 in Spokane, WA. His father was Hugh Kennedy, mother Bridget Mackey. He was 47 years old.
---The Chicago Daily Tribune, Apr 30 1956:
Kennedy--Hugh F Kennedy, beloved husband of Mable; loving brother of Dennis, Mary Grove, Sarah Mckenna, John, and Cecilia Bauer. Resting at funeral home, 9900 S. Throop street, after 5 p.m. Monday. Funeral Tuesday, 9:45 a.m. at St. Margaret's church. Mass at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre.

Your own posted family tree, this also identifies your knowledge:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/18865088/person/724546058?ssr...=
It shows his obituary, a typed version as above. It also identifies his WW II service from 27 Nov 1940. A POW identification showing he was a 1st Lieutenant, service as a Chaplain, held by the Japanese in the Philippine Islands, then repatriated. So it appears he was in the military during the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. First, a confirmation would be needed to fully confirm this WWII service was the same person.

POW:
Here is bit comment on a rescue of POW's in the Philippines in 1945, where a POW identified himself as a Chaplain, Hugh Kennedy...to coincidental to not be researched:
http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2001-10-02/news/0110020140_...
IF it is him, what a story:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_at_Cabanatuan
These men were also at Bataan and Corregidor, the death marches...
PLEASE let me know if this IS the same person. If you don't know, then it MUST be further researched.
If he was part of this, then from rescue to 1956 death in the VA Hospital, all could be connected to his POW years.

The Washington Death Certificate Index identifies Hugh Francis Kennedy with the same parents, but does not identify a wife.

"He was a guard for the US Government in Coulee Dam, Douglas, WA"
---The actual construction period was from 1933 to 1942. Local towns were Grand Coulee (incorporated 1935); Electric City (incorporated 1950). The POW/Military data does not identify when he was released from active duty. It could have been around the end of the war; or because he enlisted prior to the war, he may have stayed after the war ended. Many did stay and were part of the post war occupation of Japan. But, if he was a POW in the above scenario, he probably did not reenter service in the war.

Research suggestions:
FIRST: Repost your query on the Rootsweb site for Spokane County. I would "guess" there is more of a chance of records there than in Douglas. I would also suggest you copy the link for THIS research and post it on your Spokane County posting. My research below will provide additional information that might help Spokane researchers.

--The Washington Death Index/Washington Death Certificate Index. I checked both for a Mable Kennedy. One, Mable M. Kennedy, died 19 Jan 1968 in Spokane, no age or other identifying data.
The problem being for these records: The Death Certificate Index only runs to 1960. The Death Index runs 1940 to 1996; but the online version is terribly inadequate. Run a "no name" search for 1955, it shows six people died in Washington that year. For 1956, NO ONE is shown. Also, Mable, who could have been born at any time 1900's to 1930 (as a long period), could have remarried prior to death.

Marriage records: Usually you need a time and place to even start exploring the microfilm records.

City Directories:
---I would FIRST start with exploring the Spokane City Directories (Polks) starting in 1956. The Polks are an alphabetical listing of persons living in a populated area. If Hugh was in Spokane, it would show, as an EXAMPLE: "Kennedy, Hugh F (Mable), security, h(home) 123 Post Street." If Mable was also employed, she also would be separately listed. If any children were employed (or a student), they would be found listed at the same address under their own name.
---So, review of these Polks from 1956 and backward in time would show when and where they lived. When they disappear, that would be about when they moved there. It "might show Hugh without the listing of a spouse, when she first appears, that "might" be the time frame of marriage. BUT, if she was from Douglas County, the marriage might have been there. Forward in time, "might" find Mable, alone, shown as "Mable (wid Hugh)" and where she lived. When she disappears, she could have moved or remarried. After she disappears, the cross reference by address should be checked to find the owner of that address. She could still be living there, but now under a married name.
-- I don't know when Coulee City, Electric City, or that area of Douglas County may have had a Polks Directory. But, a research should be done to locate one. It "could" identify Hugh when he lived there. However, my OWN speculation, he probably didn't reside there long working in security.

Obituaries:
You have the one for Illinois. If he had lived in Spokane for a period of time and had developed local friends, there might be one in Spokane (Spokesman Review or Chronicle), "if" Mable wanted to pay for one. If one isn't found, that doesn't mean he didn't live there. He also might have died in a local hospital from injuries sustained in Douglas County, or a serious accident or injury elsewhere. (Since your information identifies he died in the VA Hospital, it "could" be war related; however, that is not always the case). He was young at time of death. If someone from this site doesn't provide the information the RAOGK (Below) or WA State Library could be a source:
--The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. For an obituary: http://www.sos.wa.gov/library/Obituaries.aspx At this time, due to MANY requests and budget cutbacks, it's taking about six weeks.

The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK) has volunteers in Spokane County (READ the Guidelines FIRST). http://www.raogk.org/washingt4.htm
--I would ask one that does Public Records (Library) to do the Polk Directory search identified above. One that does Public Records (courthouse) for marriage records, IF the indicators indicate they married in Spokane County. One that does Obituaries could look for his, on, shortly after, April 25, 1956. If Mable is listed as a spouse, additional could be researched on her. It may or may not identify children, since the Illinois obituary didn't, I would "assume" he had no children. Of the volunteers, Shirley seems to do the most rounded research.

If you can't receive Polk Directory help, there is a set of Spokane Polks in Seattle. I do get up there occasionally.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

Hi,
I can't believe that I just now saw your nice post on ancestry since 2007. As you see I rarely check messages on ancestry I guess. Thank you so much for the information, the Washburn descendants have lived in Stevens co. since 1882 I started there, many years ago & it took me over 10 yrs to discover what happened to Ira Washburn b. 1837 NY. he died Stockton, CA 8 Dec. 1870 a very sad ending to his life.

Thank you so much for you post I'm just sorry I just now found it.
Judy, I found out thru the WA State Digital Archives that this burial we talked about in 2007 (for the Mayfield boy) was listed as being in the Jean Cemetery. Do you know who I would contact to find out who is buried in that Cemetery and where it is located? Even though the newspaper article said his burial was in the Nelson Cemetery, maybe they are one and the same cemetery. Mary Mayfield

All I know about Mabel is that she was the wife of Hugh Kennedy. She might have been born in Coulee Dam, Douglas, Washington, USA but not totally sure.

Hugh Kennedy was born Sep 1909 in Chicago, Illinois and died Apr 25, 1956. he was a guard for the US Government in Coulee Dam, Douglas, Washington, USA. He died at the VA hospital in Spokane, Washington and buried at the Interment Holy Sepulchre in chicago.

Any information would be very helpful.

Thank you for your assistance

Yes, his land was in Douglas County, not Grant.

The 1910 Census for Chester, Douglas County, WA
George E. Horning, age 48(circa 1861/1862), born in Michigan, to father born in Pennsylvania, mother in New York. Single. A Farmer/General farm. Owned his land.

The 1920 Census for Saint Andrews, Douglas Co, WA
George E. "Harning" (as transcribed), age 57, born in MI to father born in PA, mother in NY, farmer. Owned his property.

The 1930 Census for Saint Andrews, Douglas County, WA
George E. Horning, age 68, born in MI to father born in PA, mother in NY, farmer, owned his land.

Saint Andrews is in Douglas County, northwest of Coulee City. ( www.mapquest.com ). His mailing address was probably Coulee City.

The Washington Death Certificate Index:
George E. Horning, died 17 Dec 1940, at age 78 years, (birth 1861/1862) in Lewis, Washington. This record did not specify if this was Lewis County, or town name of Lewis (One in Columbia County, NE of Walla Walla, WA). But, I would presume it was in Lewis County.

The Bureau of Land Management has land patent records for land http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/Logon/Logon_Form.asp
issued under the Homestead Act:
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/ah-homestead.html

It shows George E. Horning obtained 160 acres of land on 11/5/1908. The Legal Land Description tab shows it was located in Township 25-N(orth), Range 28-E(ast), Section 5, the SW Corner.

To find that land location, go to:
http://www.esg.montana.edu/gl/trs-data.html
Change State to WA, enter the locators from above.

This next window shows various location information. Note: Pilot Rock is 321 meters in distance, Shrock Draw head is 377 meters away, etc. In the map identifiers, you'll see it is found in the map for "Mold", Saint Andrews is to the west. Once you have looked over this page, click on "Switch to Terra Server" in the center of the page, found in blue.

Once you reach the new window showing a map, click on the largest blue box for size, then change from Aerial Photo to Topo Map.

Now in this new window is a topography map. You'll see Pilot Rock, St. Andrews to the west, Sullivan Lake, and the large Bank Lake. You'll see the map is divided into squares, these are Sections. A Section contains 640 acres, about a square mile.

Now find the square containing the word "Pilot Rock." Left click with your mouse on the bottom of that square. Then in the next window, left click on it again.

Now that square has a red "5" in the middle. This is Section 5. Mentally divide that square into quarters (halve vertically and horizontally). His land, the SW Corner would be in the bottom right corner. Actually with the red dotted lines, it is basically shown for you. You will see a road running along the western boundary of the section. Also, you can see the current power lines running across his land. Clicking on the "West" along the left side of the map, you'll see a red line running north and south. That is Route 17.

Open an additional browser window and open MapQuest again to find Route 17. While still in MapQuest, switch to Aerial map. You can see the electric transmission lines and also see much of the area is rolling hills. You can go back and forth from the topomap to the MapQuest to look at his property.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA
Hi Judy, Thanks for the reply. George was listed in the Douglas COunty Atlas, so I assume the Pilot Rock Ranch was in Douglas County then. I will try the Google search you suggested. I have looked in Ancestry for him, but I think he may have moved on later in life. I have no idea if he was married and had children. I will keep searching and hopefully I will make it to Douglas County this summer and get into some Courthouse records. Perhaps I can find something there. Mary
The Fairview school I was referring to was near Mansfield and what was once the town of Nelson. My Grandparents are not living, but I have a couple photos of Annie....one with her students (which included both of my grandparents) and one of her in the Douglas COunty 1915 Atlas. She may be related thru marriage. Hopefully with this information I may be able to connect her to my family.
Thanks again

You idenitified the Fairview School, but not the city/town in which it was located. I found no "Addie" Walker, but the one below was the only one matching criteria. You might want to talk to your grandparents about this person. This person does not appear to be related by your inquiry, just a "happy memory" search?

The 1910 Census for Leahy, Douglas County, WA, enumerated 19 April
Annie M Walker, age 38(circa 1871/1872), born in Tennessee to both parents born in North Carolina, teacher/public school, widow. Born August 3, 1898, a school teacher, nearest relative Mrs Annie Walker (identified as wife). He had a legg(as written) Paralyzice(as written). He was medium in heigh, medium in build, brown eyes, black hair. He registered on 9/12/1918.

The 1930 has a "close" finding, matching some of the criteria:
The 1930 Census for Park Place, Snohomish County
Ernest C Walker, age 31, born in Iowa to father born in Iowa, mother in Tennessee, teacher/State Reformatory
Magenta P, age 29, born in NC
Philip D, son, age 2 10/12 (census enumerated April 19th, so he was born about June/July 1927).
--The Social Security Death Index shos a Philip D. His Social Security Number was issued in Washington State before 1951.
--The Washington Death Index shows a Magenta B Walker, born about 1901, died 2 July 1975 in Cheney, WA. The Social Security Death Index has her birth on 8 Sep 1900.
The Social Security Death Index shows Ernie Walker, born 3 Aug 1898died Feb 1984 in Bellingham, Whatcom County, WA.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

George E. Horning

In the 1915 Geo. Ogle standard Atlas of Douglas CO. WA George E. Horning owns land. On his property it lists the Pilot Rock Ranch, which I assume was his ranch. Does anyone have any information about this Ranch or Mr. Horning? His P.O. address was Coulee City. Please help with information. Thank you, Mary M.
