I'm looking for any information on the McEachron & Son Logging Company. They operated out of Cowlitz County (presumably, either Longview or Kelso - ?) in the 1940s/50s.

My great-grandmother's husband, Earl Edwards, was a logger and he died from injuries sustained in a logging accident at the company's work site near Abernathy Creek in July 1951. I'm hoping to find any information about the company, such as employment records, accident reports, the owners' names...basically, anything. Thanks.

After several years of looking I found a death record for my great-uncle Chauncy Silver. He died of drowning in 1943--the family said in the Willamette. He didn't--he died in the Cowlitz 23 april 1943. Can some one tell me what newspapers in that area might have carried the story?
I know very little about Uncle Chauncy (who also used John)
Thank you for any help.

Karyl

Left HBC in 1842 and noted in church records of St Francois Xavier Mission ?near Fort Vancouver? in mid-1840s.

Hello,

I just posted a transcription of the 1890 Special Census of Civil War Veterans and Widows (Union) to the Cowlitz Co., WA GenWeb site. Since the regular 1890 census was largely destroyed in a fire (including all of Washington state), this is the only surviving record of at least some of the people enumerated in 1890. I provided space for annotations, so if someone from your line is listed, please let me know to have your information posted on the census.

URL: http://www.drizzle.com/~jtenlen/wacowlitz/1890.html

Nellie Marie Smith-Formerly Nellie M Bishop

Nellie M Bishop was the daughter of Lynne Bishop. They lived in the Longview area. Nellie was born about 1922 in Tacoma. I figure she graduated from R.A. Long high school about 1939.

In the city directory of 1940 I see where Nellie was living with her father. I am assuming that she married a fellow with the last name of Smith. I know she was living in the Longview area in 1966.

If this name rings a bell or if anyone has any information, would sure appreciate it. And if the name Lynne Bishop rings a bell. His second wife was Virginia Bishop. I have no idea when Virginia passed away, but I do know she died in the Longview area around the 1960's. Her husband Lynne evidently moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas where he passed away in 1986.

Thanks for your help.

Herchel was born in North Carolina 25 Jul 1875 and died 11 Sep 1921 in Castle Rock, Cowlitz, Washington. He married Lizzie 11 Feb 1900 in Cowlitz county, Washington, and together they had two sons, Aaron and Alto.
Lizzie was witness with my gg-grandfather, Abraham, to the marriage of his brother, and a married sister of Abraham was witness to Lizzie's marriage, so I think Lizzie is an aunt of mine. I just haven't found her listed definitely as a member of the family. If she is, her parents are Samuel Umiker and Anna Maria (Mary) Wernli
I was wondering if there is someone out there that goes frequently to the courthouse and that might be able to look up his will and any pertinent documents in his probate file.

Roy had a son, "Donald of Michigan", but I've never been able to locate him. I'm hoping there is something in the probate file.

I will be more than happy to reimburse for costs. I simply cannot visit the courthouse on my own, as I live in Milwaukee, WI.
I am seeking any information on brothers James L. Dunlap (1930 census of Longview Wa. with wife Madeline M.) and William Brewer Dunlap (Cowlitz Co. resident joined the US ARMY in 1942).

It is believed William Brewer was married for a short period of time in the late 1920's to Marjorie Knee who was listed (in the home of her sister and brother-in-law Fred and Helen Shane) as Marjorie E Dunlap in the 1930 census of Kelso Wa.

Both James (1902) and William Brewer (1906) were born in Louisiana. It is also believed their baby sister Deloresmae was born in Longview Wa. in 1923 after her parents relocated there from Louisiana. Parents John Woody and Mollie Dunlap later moved to Weed Ca. where they appeared in the 1930 census.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I'm seeking information on my Great Grandma Anna Mae (Shaw) STAGGS - she passed away in Longview, WA on December 27, 1987. She was married to Henry Felix STAGGS and they had seven children (Raymond, Billy, Irma, Maxine, June, Jyme and Myrna), the ones who are living still live in the area - in fact I was just down there visiting my Granny over the weekend! What I'm trying to track down is the names of her parents, maybe her birthplace, and am hoping they might be listed in the obituary. I really appreciate the help in advance -

Thanks!
Julie (Ogburn) Curran

Seattle Post Intelligencer Sept 6 1905

Mrs. Robin is Dead. Pioneer of Northwest Came to Washington From Illinois in 1853.
Special to the Post Intelligencer
Castle Rock, Sept 6 – Mrs. John Robin, a pioneer, died this morning of heart disease, at the age of fifty-nine years.
Martha Ellen Stock was born in Edgar County, Illinois, January 6, 1844 and came west with her parents who in 1853 located on a donation land claim eight miles south of Castle Rock. On July 7, 1865 she was married to John Robin who in 1852 bought from Hodge and Mitchell what is said to have been the first shingle mill ever built in the present State of Washington. This mill was across the river from Castle Rock, to which place they moved in 1885 (not sure of year) and built a mill which is still conducted by John Robin and his son.
Mrs. Robin, besides her husband, leaves four sons and one daughter, all of whom are married. She was a member of the Christian Church, the Order of Eastern Star and the Rathbone Sisters.
The funeral will take place Thursday under the auspices of the Eastern Star.
The Goldendale Sentinel, Goldendale, WA., March 22, 1917, page 1

OBITUARY

Mary M. Berg was born in Clark County, Ohio, July 24th, 1836. She was married to John A. Harrison on December 17th, 1857. To this union, ten children were born, of which, eight survive her. They moved to Klickitat County, Washington in 1894 and settled in the Pine Forest district, where her husband died one month later. After the death of her husband she lived with her youngest son, W.H. She united with the Baptist Church in her early life and was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church at the date of her death. She was known as a "Grandma Harrison," and loved by her many friends. The funeral services were conducted by Elder J.E. Adams at the Baptist Church in Goldendale on Tuesday evening, after which she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Goldendale. She died on March 18th, 1917, near Kelso, Washington.

This was posted for reference only. I am not related to, nor am I researching this family.

I used to hear my mother talk of meeting and marrying my dad in Kelso or even possibly Longview in 1935. I am sure that she was married to him as she needed the certificate to prove to a court judge that she had the nessasary ingredients to provide a family envirement in order to get her children from a previous marriage back. I would like to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate but am not completely sure of the date of the marriage. Off hand I would say before September of 1935. Is there one of you readers that are in the Kelso area, as that I am sure is the county seat for Cowlitz County. My dad's name was JL Shumaker and my mother's maiden name that she used was Joy, but she may have used Cook, as that is how she was born. Thank you.

Diana Saville and W.A.L. McCorkle

I am the 3g grand-daughter of W.A.L. McCorkle, the Cowlitz county pioneer, and his wife, Diana Saville. I have the basics: birth and death dates, marriage date, children, place of residence. I am interested in any details of life that might be known. If anyone has information, mention in letters or newspapers, or anything like that which would shine a little light into the daily lives or the ups and downs of life, I would appreciate hearing about it.
I would also like to know if anyone knows by what route Diana and WAL crossed the continent.
Thanks for the help!
Nancy J. McCorkle Miller

Seeking death dates of the following, all of whom were living in Castle Rock in 1935/36. I cannot find them on Ancestry's Washington death index 1940-1998 or the SSDI.
Herman Rohde b. 1874
Mary (Dollie) Rohde b. 1881
Henry Rohde b. 1884
Anna Rohde Umiker b. 1887

Also brothers Lewis b. 1886 and Charles b. 1879 both may have been deceased by 1935

Tobias Rohde who moved to Everett by 1920 b. 1882

This family relinguished their right to property in Newburgh Township (Garfield Heights, Ohio) in 1935/36. I am trying to prove them as the children of Elizabeth ANKERT and Herman Rohde of Cuyahoga county, Cleveland, Ohio. Also trying to find date of move from Ohio to Washington between 1870-1900. Any ideas, clues, or other help greatly appreciated.
Barb in Ohio
