Don't overlook the resources available at the TriCity Genealogical Society website. The TriCity Genealogical Society is a local genealogical society in the TriCities of Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland.

I did a quick search for the name "Owen" on their website and found over 30 hits. You may want to check it out.

www.tricitygenealogicalsociety.org
Scroll to the end of the page to find the site-wide search box.

~Susan Faulkner

My father now 91 exchanged some information with Phillis Sipp Owen in the 1980's. I am now doing extensive research on the Sipp family because he is interested and so am I. We are from the Sipp's that settled in Peoria County Illinois. I would love to exchange information.

The son James in Connecticut is most likely the other brother that was living in the 80's. I'm also looking for him, but I don't have date(s) for him either. No one in my family(the one twig I CAN give information about) has any contact with relatives from my fathers(one of the brothers)side or old family paperwork. What I do know is the family was in such a way apparently, that at least two of the children changed their last name to the English translation; Nightingale(one sister, one brother). I'm just starting to find limited information on Lida from a live source, so that is helpful. The family may have moved around Aroostook county for a while, as the 3 obits that I have seen for the brothers, have 3 different places of birth listed over a 20 year period. I suspect the same would apply for the 2 sisters as well. In the early 40's some, or all of, the family moved to Waterville, Maine. I saw that an Albert Rossignol died in 1973 and another one in 1996 in Washington state. You ruled out the '73(Minnesota SSN)for me, but the exact date for the one in '96 will escape me. Thank you again for your help and for starting me on my first genealogical path.

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately the only thing that seems to match is the Lida Rossignol 1940 marriage. That cleared up a inquiry. I apologize for not being more specific in my search, but I have nothing to go on other than a name, his siblings(all of which are dead, that I know of)and his parents. No birth dates and seeing as I'm new to the whole searching for ancestors, no knowledge in general. Last I new this person was living in Washington state in the 80's, so I figured I'd check there for an obit. Everything I looked at cost money to find out more, so I posted here. Thank you for the link, I will surely check it out as soon as possible.

When you post an inquiry, it is especially helpful to researchers for you to post some specific information about the people you seek. Their date of birth is most important. If you don't have that, an approximate would help, place of birth, parents, spouse, children, where they lived, etc. I looked at your other postings, which gave me some additional information. It appears you are looking for Albert Rossignol, son of William and Mattie? But, that post didn't identify any ages, or information. There were 9 William Rossignol in the 1930 Census. Two of the daughters were last known in Maine, son James in Connecticut; all in the 1980's. So, William may not have been in the 1930 Census.
--For your Aroostook County, ME, in Frenchville, the 1900 Census:
William Rossignol, born Mar 1847 in canada
Venerante, wife, born June 1855 in Maine, mother of 15, 13 living
William Jr. Dec 1891 (Could this be the grandfather William?)
-----Nope wrong ones.
HERE is Willie and Mattie, 1910, Aroostook County
Willie, age 21 (born circa 1888/1889), born in Maine, laborer, odd jobs.
Mattie, age 16, born in Maine, married 0 years, living in the home of:
Fred Rossignol, age 45, born in Canada, immigrated 1880.
Belzeba, age 38, born in Maine, mother of 12/7 living.
5 children shown.
--This William "could" be the William born in December 1891; although there is a two year difference in age. A common census mistake.

--In the Maine Marriages 1892-1996
Prime Rossignol, married Marie L. Guerette living in St. Agatha, ME, on 16 August 1909. (There is NO proof this is the correct persons. The 1920 Census has a Marie Rossignol married to a Joseph L. Rossignol)

The World War I Draft Card Image database shows:
Willie Rossignol, born April 18, 1886, living at Gurrette 17 R4, Roostook, ME. Is employed as a laborer. Nearest relativeis Mrs. Mattie Rossignol. He was medium in height, medium in build, brown eyes and brown hair.
--Now he is even older.

I could not find them in the 1920 Census, unless the below is the family:

The 1930 Census has 5 Albert Rossignol, 4 born in Maine, 1 New Hampshire. Four were listed as a son, but the parents didn't match, the other was married to Caroline, born about 1901.
--But, this one is "close". 1930 Census for Stockholm, Aroostook Co, ME
Willi Rossignol, age 37 (1892/1893, a bit too young).
Eyith, 36
Albert 16
Alma 15
Joseph 13
??Tarka??? 8
Irene 6
Alixie 4 5/12
Roseanna 1 5/12.
--This Albert would have een born 1913/1914. ("might" be the one born 1913 listed below).

The Social Security Death Index:
Albert Rossignol, born 25 June 1903, died Feb 1973 in Richland, Benton Co, WA. His Social Security Number 471-22-4602 was issued in Minnesota, before 1951.
--There is an Albert J. Rossignol, born 20 Jan 1908, died 3 Sep 1996, in Portsmouth, Rockingham, New Hampshire.
--Albert J. born 27 Dec 1913, died 28 Feb 1998 in New Britain, Hartford, CT
--Albert, born 26 Nov 1925, died 25 Nov 1998 in Lisbon, Androscoggin, ME
--Albert, born 3 Sep 1927, died 18 Sep 1990, SSN issued in New Hampshire, no place of death shown.
--Albert P. born 4 August 1935, died 25 Oct 2007, New Britain, Hartford, CT

Maine Marriages:
Lida Rossignol living in Madawaka, ME, married Alphe Dubois, 29 Jan 1940

One of your postings said: "There is a William and Mattie that were up around Keegan and other parts of Aroostook County in the early 1900's". This was in the Rossignol surname board. Keegan, Aroostook Co, are in Maine. You wrote they were your grandparents and you had the names of his children, g-children and g-g's.
---THIS is the first place to start. Always start genealogy with contact of family members. They should have information, pictures, etc. on the family. Is there any of the children living? Other older grandchildren might have old address books, photographs, letters, etc.

Once you've identified the Albert you are seeking, and it IS the one in Washington, an obituary can be obtained free through the Washington State Library. BUT, having the FULL date of death is almost a requirement.

The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. I would like to include newspaper photos, but can’t find the one I’m looking for. It was during the West Richland, WA flood of 65. The picture shows mom with her horse ‘Lucky’ after she swam through the frigid waters of the Yakima, and younger brother Steve is also mentioned cutting fence and saving cows.

Does anyone perhaps know why this fabulous photo didn’t make it into the online archives at ancestry?

I would like to get an original copy of this photo to include in the scrapbook.
Thanks for the info, Ron. Yes, the name is Milam instead of Milan. I have the obit for Verna and that's how I had Betty Danners info. That's all I know about her. She should have been born sometime in the 1930s but I don't have any proof. The Thomas and Betty Danner at the same address is how I arrived at his name, but the phone has been disconnected so I assume that they both are dead. Both Richard and Verna died in Kennewick. Verna had a Grandchild and two great-grandchildren but no names are listed so I'm at a dead end without more information.

I looked at your other postings in an effort to find additional information on these people, without success. Your 8 postings indicate your new to genealogy research (or at least limited postings under this name).

When you post an inquiry, it is so important to provide specific information about the people you search, especially if they have common names. As an example, the Social Security Death Index has 21 Betty Danner. Betty, as a name is sometimes a nickname for Elizabeth

If you know their date of birth, that is great, even just a year, or approximate year. Such as, Betty graduated Kennewick High School in 1888. Do you know when and where she married?

With your indication "Both are apparently dead now", I did a search for Richard Milan with the "assumption" he "might" have been born prior to the 1930 Census. I find seven, none living in Washington or married to a Verna.

Now, I throw in a search using wild card, looking for ANY Rich* Mil* (where the * allows any letters following). In the Washington Death Index I find:

Richard A. MilaM (ends in "M"), died 27 July 1987 at age 75, residence was Kennewick.
Verna L. MilaM, died 27 June 1991 in Kennewick at age 79. SSN was 333-24-7861, issued in Illinois. She was born 13 Sep 1911.
--You can obtain obituaries for these two, which should identify a location for children:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx .

The Tri-City Herald has several articles
April 20, 1955, Richard Lee Milam, a Pasco High School Senior (found to be the wrong person, wrong family)
Oct 14, 1956, Richard Lee marries Dorene Marie Williams of Richland. He son of A.C. Milam
Feb 7, 1957. Richard A. Milam gives a pint of blood.
Dec 5, 1965. Richard A. Milam, speeding, $24.00.
Feb 16, 1964. Verna Milam, guest at a luncheon.
May 7, 1952. Betty Milam, Pasco High School Grad.
--So, if correct person, born about 1934. Still young enough to be living.

www.zabasearch.com shows a Betty Danner, 108 Irby Street, Kennewick, WA 99336 (phone 509-783-4996). Thomas N. lives at the same address.

Ron Bestrom
They had at least 2 children - son Geavard born abt 1910 Washington state & daughter Velma born abt 1912 born South Dakota. Louis immigrated to US in 1896 & had a brother named Christ (probably Christian). Lived in Iowa & South Dakota before moving to Benton County Washington & later moved to Montana. This is a long shot. In Denmark I believe he was betrothed to my grandmother, Mary Christensen. Thanks for any help - Sherry

Hi
Just got your message as I was getting ready to add a post. Thanks for all the work you are putting into this search. No, I don't have "any" information on Charley or Mattie. Mattie is actually my family member but was looking for information on both to try to further myself. I will go over what information that you sent tonight and let you know what I can figure out. Last night I checked the census for Larkin who might have been Charley's father.

You asked how I got the information that I identified Mattie with. My Aunt, Louise Lambert(NC/TN), wife of James William Lambert(nephew of Mattie),did her research some years prior to her death in 2001. At that time, she listed George W. Lambert, James T. Lambert, and Mattie L. Lambert Younce(wife of Charley) as James William Lambert's uncles and aunt. I had never heard anyone mention their names before and asked my Mom. She didn't know them either. I have been trying to locate information about them ever since 1999. So, in answer to your question I got the info through family, but that is all that she had written down. No one in the family older than I has taken any interest in helping to further this info. or either have passed on.

The reason I was posting again was to add that I inquired at the ask a librarian and received a death notice for James T., George, and George's son Fred. In the information it listed a sister, Mrs. Mattie Jones--so I figure she must have married a second time. She was in Clifton Colorado at the time, which was 1964.

The Charlie Younce in the 1900 census, sounds like that might be him from the area. Mattie's parents were living in that area at one time. I don't know who Rebecca would be. Also, the Draft registration sounds like it could be him since Mattie's brothers lived in Idaho at one time. Mattie was in Kennewick in 1941 and Clifton Colorado in 1964 according to her brother's obituaries.

I do appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Nina

I did some research, found some information, but you may have all of it. Had a couple of questions also:

I find a family tree owned by a BonnieMVBates, Baker City, Oregon that has Charles Younce. This could be you. This person does not have online email address (WHY do people do genealogy do this?). I sent a contact request for this person to read this thread.
---This person identifies Charles as born about 1878. Parents not identified in the online tree.
---He was married to Rebecca Swift, with whom he had daughter Mary Emma Younce. Mary was born 15 Sep 1899 and died 25 Dec 1984 in Walla Walla, WA. She married Roy Andrew Samson and had nine children. I won't further identify as you may already have this information.
---There is no information on this Mattie Lambert Younce.

The 1900 Census for Beech Mountain, Watauga Co, NC
Charlie Younce, born Jan 1876, born NC, farmer.
"Rebeca" (as transcribed), born Jan 1879 in NC, married 5 years, 2 children
Emma, April 1896
Nella, Sept 1898

The World War I Draft registration card database shows a Charles Edward Younce, born January 9, 1876. He was a farmer in Post Falls, Kootenai County, Idaho. His nearest relative was Mrs C. E. Younce. He was medium in height and build, brown eyes and light brown hair. No physical defects.
--There was a Charles Younce, born Sept 9, 1878, living in Portland, nearest relative was Eva Younce. His occupation "Repairing Gas supplies" for the Portland Gas and Coke(Cake?) Co. He was Charles "D" in the 1930 Census. Wrong guy.

You identified Mattie was born 12 June 1890 and died 23 Dec 1971. Where did you obtain this information?
--I ran the name "Mattie" in the Social Security Death Index, no last name, and that DOB. There were 10, none had that DOD. I ran Martha, 10, none with that DOD, but one died Dec 1972 in Detroit, Michigan, Martha Natzke.
--I ran NO NAME, with that DOB and DOD. There was a Clay Rasciner died in Naches, Yakima County, WA.
--The Washington Death Index has 79 NO NAME with that DOD.

The other "researcher"... found
> I did find a Charles Forest Younce who d. 8 June 1955, Spokane, Spokane Co., WA. He was 85 years old, Estimated Birth Year=1870,
No evidence this could be the correct person. This person was found in the 1920 census, born in Ohio.

Since you identified "in Walla Walla Co. in a death article", I looked for info in that area newspaper. What death article ?

The October 8, 1947 edition:
(probably from Auditors Office): a quit claim deed from...C.E. Younce et ux to O.D. Payne.
You could try to get this document from the County Auditor. With those initials good chance it could be the same person.

April 15, 1948. ... Miss Marjorie Smith, ...was united in marriage with Norris R. Younce, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert B. Owens of Kennewick
--identified as Florence Norris. In the 1930 census she was living with parents and divorced. Norris was 9/12(?), his father was from S. Carolina.

Ron Bestrom

Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just that I can't find it.

Here's what I did find. In 1930 Mattie and Charley were living in Finley, Benton Co., WA. Charley, b. NC, 53 yrs old, marr @ 24, general farmer; Mattie, b. NC, 40, marr @ 17 and Victor, b. ID, 11.

I did find a Charles Forest Younce who d. 8 June 1955, Spokane, Spokane Co., WA. He was 85 years old, Estimated Birth Year=1870, Father Name=Larkin Younce, Mother Name=Catherine Shilerbarger, Burial Place=Opportunity, WA, Burial Date=11 June 1955. Source: WA Death Certs to 1960, http://pilot.familysearch.org/ .

An inexpensive way to verify if this is your Charles Younce is to request a copy of his obituary from the Washington State Library, www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx .
Hi I am interested in acquiring information about a death certificate for Mr & Mrs. Charles E. Younce. Her name was Mattie Lambert Younce. Her birth date was 12 June 1890 TN and death 23 Dec. 1971. I do not have anything on Charles. I found information in Walla Walla Co. in a death article in the newspaper stating that she was living in Kennewick. That article was wrote in 1941. I thought since this is the last info I have on her perhaps she died there. Any help or information is appreciated.
Thanks,
Nina

First, I apologize for the very late response. I have been ill and was not on the computer.

Thank you for confirming the partial information that we had on Herman and adding to it. Herman was one of four siblings (surname/Satter) placed with the Children's home society after their mother's death. The families of Herman's brother Paul & sister Ellen Marie were reunited via this thread. I will forward them the information that you provided.

One other brother, born Ole Christian Satter, 12/11/1901, was placed with a Reverand Cooke’s family in Rennville, in the State of Minnesota, in 1909. He was originally placed with the Children’s Home Society on the 4th of April 1908. He was also placed with Herman at the Emanuel and Barbara Krouse home, but they returned him (only keeping Herman) and Ole was then placed with the Reverand.

Do you know if perchance Ole and Herman ever connected later in life? A document sent to the family of Ole and Herman's brother Paul indicates that Ole may have used the name George Cooke, even though the Cooke's did not formally adopt him and that he may have served in the military.

Do you have other siblings or were you raised as an only child?

Please send your address to me at althajeansatter@yahoo.com and I would be happy to put you in touch with the children of Paul and Ellen Marie, your adopted father's brother and sister. Neither of them use computers, but I know that they would love to hear from you, should you wish to contact them.

I also have some pictures of Herman's biological father(Christ) and some of his 1/2 siblings from his second marriage if you would be interested. I made extra copies when I put Paul and Ellen Marie's children together. I felt it might help them get up to speed on the members of the family of Christ's second marriage. I would dearly love to have pictures of Herman and his family as well if you have copies you'd be willing to share.

Thank you once again for your posting. It is very appreciated and I am so sorry that I have been off line and it took so long for you to receive a response.

I was named Virginia Ann Krouse DOB: 6/15/1938. I am not aware of any other family member with information about Herman.

I was told that Herman grew up in Du Boise, NE. I have a picture of me and Barbara Krouse, when quite small sitting on the ground in a farm yard. I believe it was taken at Du Boise,d NE. I plan to make a trip over there hoping to find information on the Krouse family. I do not ever remember hearing anyone speak of Herman’s adoptive parents.

You can do it how ever you want. When I and other click on that link we get the // in the email address. But, when you post a link, if others can not use it because of the //, then there is a problem. If you post a link, you MUST post a link that EVERYONE can use. The // comes up on most peoples email when they try to use the link. So, for EVERYONE's interest DON'T USE THAT LINK on ROOTSWEB when you are 'trying' to help others.

POW/MIA Korean War Benton Co. FOSTER, SHELL

I am searching for the family of two soldiers who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Benton County, Washington as their home of record.

Soldier: CLYDE NEIL FOSTER
Born: 1930 Caucasian
Date of loss: November 25, 1951 KIA

Soldier: GLENN EDWARD SHELL JR
Born: 1932 Caucasian
Date of loss: April 16, 1953

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 46 families from Washington that have not been located. There are two families from Benton County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Hej !

I've been in contact with Donna/Angelwings98. I've been working on the thought of providing this info to a family member. BUT, the more I think about it, a review of the family data should be made, identify the names, the difficulty in doing a family tree for posting on Rootsweb. I'm also of the thought, All this research by this woman should just go to a family member, but kept in a genealogy based facility, genealogy society, LDS facility, or other public accessible system.

But, that decision would fall to Donna (I think I know her thought on it already), and I would agree the organization she mentioned or similar might be the best solution.

Now, as to you:
You seem to not only have a good number of Norwegian family, but also some good genealogy knowledge about finding them and patronymics.

Are you familiar with the Norway List? I've been one of the "Family" for about 12-13 years now. We're all over the world and help find lost family members in Norway or all over the world. Discussions of culture, travel, weather, etc are also posted.

Here is the home page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~norway/NorwayList.htm

You can subscribe via the above.

It is a mailing list (emails) versus a message board.

Ron Bestrom

I sent an email directly to the party, who had found the 'treasures' at a yard sale. Thank you for the posting alerting me to it. If there is a link for me, most likely it would be thru the children of my grandfather's siblings, and I have only recently documented their names (no marriages and/or children as of yet)as follows:

My grandfather on my paternal side - Christ Satter (Sather) was born Kristofer Christensen:
Birth: 05 JUL 1874 & Christening: 16 AUG 1874, Aukra, Møre og Romsdal
Parents: Kristen Kristensen & Elen Knudsdr (*perhaps remarried after Kristen died)
Source information: Møre og Romsdal county, Aukra in Aukra, Parish register (official) nr. 560A04 (1873-1878), Birth and baptism records 1874, page 11. Kristofer Christensen was naturalized in the district court, County of Wright, Minnesota, village of Buffalo on September 7, 1904, as Christ Satter (Sather). First papers were filed in the County of Day, South Dakota.

His Siblings:
Sivert Bernhard Kristensen, b 27 Jun 1876 Aukra, Møre og Romsdal
Hans Andreas Kristensen, b 14 Feb 1880 Aukra, Møre og Romsdal
Karen Anna Kristensen, b 08 May 1883 Aukra, Møre og Romsdal
Peder Ingvald Kristensen, b 30 Sep 1885 Aukra, Møre og Romsdal
All born on Sæter farm in Aukra, More og Romsdal. Municipality of Aukra, in the district of Romsdal, County of Møre og Romsdal.

Kristen Kristensen and Elen Knudsdatter were married June 22 1873, Eid in Grytten/1818-1853.
Kristen Kristensen was born July 21 1836, on the right hand page (wrongly posted as a girl!), Eid in Grytten/1818-1853.
His parents were Kristen Hansen and Bereth Iversdatter on the Gierseth farm.
Elen Knudsdatter was born Febr 18 1851, her parents were Knud Jørgensen and Gurine Arnesdatter, Sandoy in Aukra / 1817-1858.
Knud Jørgensen and Gurine Arnesdatter were married Sept 16 1835, Sandoy in Aukra / 1817-1858.

Marriages of the siblings, of my paternal grandfather, are unknown at this time. Peder Ingvald and Sivert Bernhard Kristensen were not found in the 1900 Norwegian Census (they may have immigrated to the USA as did Christ); but, two of the siblings (Hans and Karen) per the 1900 Census were still living on the Saeter farm, with their mother Elen Knudsdatter, who appears to have remarried and has two additional children: Kristine Nilsdatter & Magnus Nilson. The second marriage of Elen Knudsdatter and the half-siblings have not yet been confirmed with parish records.

Christ Satter (Sather), born Kristofer Christensen, had a son, Ole Christian Satter, born 12/11/1901 in the USA, who was placed with a Reverand Cooke’s family in Rennville, in the State of Minnesota, in 1909. He was originally placed with the Children’s Home Society on the 4th of April 1908, following the death of his mother, Martha Olson. She married Christ on 6/28/1898, and died on 09/27/07, of pulmonary TB, in Buffalo Minnesota, County of Wright, interment in Lakeview, Buffalo Minnesota. The families of Ole Christian Satter's brother Paul & sister Ellen Marie were reunited via this thread. Christ Satter may have had extended family in Minnesota, but this has not been confirmed.

On my maternal side I also have a Christianson/Christensen g-g-grandfather, first name Karl/Carl, b. 16th March, 1838 / died 11th May, 1902. Karl married Caroline on the 7th Oct, 1866, in Domkirken, Oslo, Akershus (based on LDS records). She was born 11/23/38 and emigrated from Norway with three of their six children (Regina, Oscar, & Emil) to the US, on the Geiser, arriving 22 August, 1884, to join Karl. Further information on this family has not yet been investigated. All known documents belonging to the Christensen family after the death of Karl and Caroline's son Oscar, ended up with Clarence’s (their grandson) female friend and were lost to the family. Caroline Christianson was believed to have family living in Washington – but, again this has not been confirmed. Caroline’s maiden name was Olsen (father - Ole Knudsen).
