Bond Is Called By Death
Asotin, Jan. 28 - Mrs. Elizabeth
Bond, 91, who came to
Asotin county 61 years ago, died at 7:45 o'clock tonight at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ted
Graham at Asotin. Her health had been failing for several months.
Born Elizabeth Cook in Warren county,
Iowa, Dec. 21, 1851, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Cook, with her parents she came west and located at Gold
Beach,
Ore. in 1869 and a year later they moved to the Cape
Blanco lighthouse, just completed. Her father was asistant keeper of the light for three years. In 1874 the family moved to Port Orford.
Her marriage to
Elam Bond took place on Dec. 2, 1874, and they returned to Cape
Blanco lighthouse to live, her husband serving as assistant keeper until 1878. After residing at Corvallis,
Ore., three years Mr. and Mrs. Bond, in company with
Jake Forgey, came to Asotin and made their home until 1883, when they moved to
Nez Perce county,
Idaho, where they resided until 1923, then returning to Asotin. Mr. Bond died here in October, 1924.
Seven of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bond survive. They are: Mrs. Ted
Graham, Asotin; Mrs. Elmer
Chrisman, Anatone; Mrs. Martin
Boyer, Lewiston Orchards; Mrs. Angeleen
O'Donnell,
Marshfield Ore.; Mrs. Ed
Graham, Forest, Idaho; Mrs. Elwood
Smith,
Medford,
Ore., and Robert
Bond, Davenport; also 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The body is at the
Merchant chapel at
Clarkston with funeral arrangements pending.
