Bev The Washington Death index from 1907-1919 only has one Zent, a 15 year old girl, no Daniel. Are you sure of the date and place?

According to "History of the City of Spokane and Spokane County, Washington: From Its Earliest Settlement to the Present Time"
By Nelson Wayne Durham
Published by S.J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1912
pg 471 the biography of Dave E Zent, who is the son of Daniel J Zent, Daniel died November 1908. (This is biography also lists 10 of the children of Daniel and Charlotte.) The obituary of Daniel's sister, Catherine Zent Meyer(s) Seitz in 1910 placed his death in Ritzville, WA.

I am the 3rd gr granddaughter of Daniel's sister Mary Catheren Zent and Louis Snyder, of Williamsville, NY.

Hope this helps.

Have you seen the obituary in The Ritzville Times, Thursday, December 17, 1908, issue for Mr. Zent? I could not find him in the Ritzville Cemetery. Maybe he was taken to Walla Walla for burial as it appears that the obit was a reprint from the Walla Walla paper.

Daniel J. Zent, who three months ago moved from Walla Walla to Pasco to make his home, is dead, after several weeks' illness, death following a stroke of paralysis. During his residence here he was engaged in the real estate and insurance business, and continued it in Pasco. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., May 8, 1839, and served in the Civil war. He lived in Kansas, Colorado, Oregon and Washington since the war. He is survived by his wife and 10 children, as follows: F. P. Zent, Everett; Mrs. F. F. O'Leary, Oak Harbor; E. W. Zent, Gooding, Idaho; Judge W. W. Zent, Ritzville; Mrs. James Kerr, Midway, B. C.; Mrs. E. T. Dell, Kivna; George W. Zent, Kate Zent, Pasco; D. E. Zent, Spokane and Mrs. T. R. Wood, Seattle. -Walla Waal Bulletin

I have Daniel J. Zent's diary of his family's journey from Colorado to Oregon in a covered wagon in 1877 and the story written by his son Frank P. Zent (11 years old on the trip) some thirty years later from the diary and his memories of the trip.

At the end of the story states:
"... and how we followed it to the Puget Sound; how the family began to grow up and drop away from the parent stat like leaves from the tree with the frosts of autumn; how the magic lure of the “Just Beyond” kept Father and Mother constantly on the move with a constantly decreasing family; and finally how a little band of us, gathered from the wooded hills of Puget Sound and the cities and prairies of the great, golden Inland Empire, one sad day stood watching them lower the remains of the husband, father, and sturdy old pioneer into his last resting place overlooking the beautiful city of Walla Walla, the Land of Promise that held our dreams during that long and weary trail over the great western prairies. But this would be the story of a new life in a new world. With the end of the diary we have reached the end of an epoch…

There let us rest."

I hope to have it printed before the end of the year and will try to make it available for others outside the immediate family at cost, possibly available to order off the internet. This is not for profit. It has been a journey of discovery and I have added some old pictures and other family information found on the internet. I you are interested I can be reached at blhorn262@comcast.net.
