Doswell Rogers was born in 1736 VA. His descendants began a crazy story 100+ years ago that he was from Tyron Co. Ireland just because a Joseph Rogers, not related, had come to the area of Hawkins Co. TN and named the town Rogersville. All of the genealogy of Joseph Rogers is in the Rogersville Library.
Our Doswell apparently is named for the Doswell family of VA. Since he has a son named, Adenstone, we believe that his parents are Adduston Rogers who married Catherine Doswell in York Co. VA. He is the first person to carry that particular name in the United States. There are no Rogers in Ireland or the British Empire named Doswell Rogers.
Doswell appears to have been married twice. The name of the first wife has never been documented. The second wife was Ann (unknown) and is documented in Wythe Co.VA on the 1792 deed records.
Six of Doswell's children were listed in the journal of Hurd Rogers as Thomas, William, James, George, Elisha, James, and Catherine. Later issue of Adenstone and Doswell, Jr. were added from the deed records of Wythe Co. VA and Lee Co. VA.
