Abraham Mitchell was born ca. 1660 and died 28 Nov. 1696 in York Co, Va. He married ca. 1662 Mary ?? who died 14 Oct 1693 in York Co., they had four children before their deaths. In York Co, Va. Wills and Administrations, 1633-1811, page 353, Peter Starkey, came into court & stated that Abraham Mitchell late of Charles Parish did verbally give his estate, also his two children into his care. By then James was over 14 and did not have to have a guardian.

1. James Mitchell, b. 9 Jan 1682/83 in Charles Parish, York Co, married ca. 1704 ?? Jarman in York Co. They had one known son, James, b. ca. 1705, d. 9 Jan 1772, York Co, m.ca. 1726, Janet Rule.
2. John Mitchell, b. 17 July 1685, York Co, m. Hannah Daniell in Elizabeth City Co.
3. Abraham Mitchell, Jr., b. 10 Mar 1687/88, York Co. d. 1747 in Onslow Co, NC, m. 1st. Ann Daniell in Elizabeth City Co, Va. m.2nd. Ann ?? in Onslow Co, NC. In 1719 he was a shipwright in Elizabeth City, the last record of him in Elizabeth City was in early 1727. He was closely associated with the Starkey, Middletons and Barbars in Elizabeth City and later in Onslow Co.
4. Mary Mitchell, b. 24 Aug 1692, d. 14 Oct 1693.
