Armstead 1843-1948 born a slave, was called Big Momma, was about 4'9", blind at appx age 25, sold several times by owner whose children repeatedly bought her back. Found a box of small gold pieces while working in the fields, gave it to her owner who gave her 2 tiny pieces she had melted into a pair of half-dime earrings. She married Chelsea Waller born 1845 died 1917 children William A, John H. Aaron L, twins Jeremiah (Jerry) and Moses J. Lucy C, Mary E and GM Sarah E. born 1884 died 1974 married Jamed E. Christian Sr, children Russell, Beulah, Amos, and twins Lenora and James. Sarah E Waller Christian was interview in 1947 for a Virginia newspaper article in which she recalled the end of the Civil War and slavery in Virginia. Thank you.
