The members of the family association coordinate planning our nation wide reunions on our family website hosted on myfamily.com. Unfortunately, the economy has created such financial hardships on many of our members, that we haven't held a nation wide reunion since the one in Cumberland Gap. Instead, there have been a few local or regional get togethers. If any of you are interested in a reunion, get in touch with me at geneworkers@yahoo.com and I'll be glad to send you an invitation to our website where you can discuss things with us. I'm all in favor of organizing another one.
Janice

They have been talking of holding another one but as yet am not sure where it will be held.

I know of three different lines of Fleenors in Indiana. One in Northern IN,One in Washington Co IN and we are in the middle of the state. All came from WcVA

I'm not related to this family, just trying to help out a friend.
Her mother recently passed away. Her mother was Katherine Fleenor born in 1933. She is listed in the 1940 census living with her grandparents Charles (1881-1984) and Alice (1878-1960) Fleenor, her aunt Bertha Day, uncle Herbert and cousin James Sword in the Kinderhook Dist of Washington Co, VA.
Her mother later moved to Chicago to live with an aunt.
My friend said that her mother never knew who her parents were.
Are any of you on this string familiar with this family and maybe offer any assistance to my friend?
Also, when and where is the Fleenor family reuninons? She may be interested in attending.

I am not having any luck finding my husbands great great grandfathers burial place. Should be in Washington Co. Va. William A Leonard aprox.b/d 1822-1897 Married to Martha Sproles. William was son of John and grandson of Frederick Leonard Sr. There are about a dozen William's in this line of Leonards from Washington County Va and it's very messy. Is there any mention of William A in this book? I have been told that he may be at Gum Hill but I cannot find any record of that being true. Thanks!

Nat L Crane was the son of Thomas E. Crane. Thomas was born in Pitt. Co. VA. During the 1870's, his brother, Nathaniel, moved to Washington Co., VA, on the Holston River. Eventually, Thomas followed his brother. With him, he moved with a few of his children and a nephew. Thomas was a widower and most of his children were grown.
His son, Nat, named for his uncle, made the moved with his father. In Washington Co, Glenford, VA, he met and married, Amanda McCormack. They had several children.
Amanda started having bouts of depression and hallucinations. When her condition worsened, she was admitted to the State Hospital at Marion, VA.
Nat took his children to stay with his siblings in Pitts Co., but that become a back and forth journey between Glenford and Dry Fork. Eventually, some of the children stayed in Glenford, some in Dry Fork.
Uncle Nathaniel and a lot of the Cranes in Glenford, up and moved to Washington State. Thomas Crane stayed in Glenford and lived with his son, James, who was also taking care of his sister (who was going blind). Young Nat's children were fostered out to neighbors.
Nat was living in Chathem, with his brother's, William, family. Again, Nat's children were fostered out to kind neighbors.
Who was this Nathaniel Crane's father? In 1940, Thelbert Crane is shown as a "foster son" of Charlie T. Ownen and wife Izetta. Izatta was a sister of my grandmother Lucy James Mills Ricketts. Charlie owned a large farm near the Dry Fork Post Office and the Crane families there.

I am not kin to DeBusk family but they sold some land to my Catchem/Ketchum family in 1800 and bought some land back from them later in 1802.

On 15 Dec 1800, Elijah DEBUSK & Catharine his wife sold 56 acres to James CATCHEM. This tract bordered the upper eastern part of James CATCHIM's 286 acre tract. A 14 pole (231 foot long) and 2 pole (33 foot wide) "finger" of land extended eastward from about the center of the eastern boundary line of the 56 acres and may have been done to gain access to Rush Creek. [Source: Washington County Deed Book 2:357.]

On the same date (15 Dec 1800), Elijah & Catharine DEBUSK sold 54 acres to Joseph CATCHEM. This tract bordered the eastern boundary of James CATCHEM's 56 acre tract and shows the 14 pole by 2 pole notch into the western section of the 54 acres. [Source: Washington County Deed Book 2:356]. Joseph CATCHEM & Mary his wife sold the 54 acres back to Elijah DEBUSK on 18 Jan 1802. [Source: Washington County Deed Book 2:486-487]. Elijah DEBUSK & Catharine his wife then sold the 54 acres on Rush Creek to their son Isaac DEBUSK on 19 Jan 1822. The 54 acres was adjacent to James CATCHEM and Elijah DEBUSK. [Source: Washington County Deed Book 7:520-522.]

James CATCHEM is enumerated on the next to the last line of page 696 of the 1810 Washington County Census:
Jas CETCHAM, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 16-25, 1 male under 10 years, 1 female under 10 years.
Two of James CETCHAM's neighbors, Samuel and David CARSON were 2 and 3 lines above James.
[The index to my copy of the 1810 census has Jas CETCHAM's last name as CALEHAM which is incorrect.]

James KETCHAM, one small farm on the south side of the South Fork of the Holston River, joining David CARSON, Elijah DEBUSK and Jos. ARTHUR, containing 216 acres, having thereon four log "cabbins," valued at $650.
I am a descendant of Rachel Debusk and Macom Whitney. Sometime after they were married the 5 July 1787 in Washington County, Virginia, they moved to South Carolina. My ggggrandmother Elizabeth Whitney was born 2 Oct 1790 in South Carolina. She married first John Huckabee and had 4 children by him. Apparently he died and she married Darling Rorie sometime after 1813 and they had one daughter - Mary Rorie. Elizabeth died 17 August 1876 and is buried in the Garvin cemetery near Windsor, South Carolina. I have a picture of her headstone. I would really like to know if Rachel and Macom had any children besides Elizabeth. Also does any one know Rachel's parents or Macom's parents?

More information today. Baxter's maternal uncle, Emmit Rosenbalm, was married to a cousin of mine....I knew those names were familiar, just took me a bit to connect the dots. Of the three children listed in the household with Alice and her parents and brother Emmit in 1900, the Rosenbalm Family book acknowledges Bessie as her daughter without listing the father. Further, Alice later married an older man named James M. Blevins and apparently they had no children. Baxter was listed in their household in 1920 as "nephew." However, in 1910 census, taken after Alice's father had died, brother Emmet is listed as head of household; other members were his mother, Mary, Alice and the two boys mentioned earlier, Tom and Baxter...both of whom were listed as Emmet's nephews. Perhaps funeral home records will help you solve the riddle of who Baxter's father was....Baxter and Ella Mae are buried at Wright's Chapel (Methodist) Cemetery. A Gary Ratliff has posted a picture of a foot marker for another Baxter B. Rosenbaum at Rhudy cemetery.....not your Baxter.

The 1900 census lists Baxter, age 5, as "grandson" in household of John F. and Mary Rosenbalm. Also in the household is their daughter, Alice, age 29, and their son, Emmet, age 16, plus two more grandchildren, Bessie age 9 and Thomas age 6. I would suspect the minor children are the sons and daughter of Alice. Baxter's WWI and WWII draft registration gives no clue as to his parent's names. SSDI shows he died in 1983. I would suggest you call Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus to see if they have a death record for either Baxter or Ella Mae....I believe it was Johnson Funeral Home at the time, but I think Garrett has those old records.

Ok, now I am assuming that you are the daughter of Norman and Barbara, correct? If so it also appears as though your an only child, correct? Where I would start is with the SS death index info on the one I just sent you and the one you found with a death date of 1970. You can go here if you have not done so before http://www.ssa.gov/online/ssa-711.pdf and order his original application, it is quite interesting as it will have your grandfathers signature along with the info on his first job. We can also do private email if your interested, Can you send me the link to where he was in the earlier census records that you mentioned earlier? Let me know what you would like to do as I will help you the best I can as I enjoy helping others!

Yes'm... you did copy it correctly; I can't say I abstracted it correctly, but you can check the original on film. There is a Fayette Co KY, IN and IL that you might check. I cannot find this couple in 1900. Jack Hockett

I thought he died when he was 52 (approx. 1963 I know he was born in 1912/1913. I found one that joined the Army in 1943 in Ft Oglethorp, GA I found one that died in 1970 with a Va. SS# I just don't know. I found his brother Preston B Thomas. I would like to find someone else that is connected to him so maybe I can follow the path.
Can you please tell us exactly what information you are searching for on your grandfather? Have you searched all the records in the area where he died? Have you ordered his SS card? Have you also contacted the public library where he lived as they usually have old newpapers? Was he in the military?

The link you provided has the death certificate for Palmira. Did you also have an obituary for her? Also, do you have the name Addison Wyatt connected with this family in any way? I suspect it may not be the same James Wyatt familiy I am researching but thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Polly's (Palmira Wyatt) father is James Wyatt, born in Tenn on 2-17-1854 and died in Tenn on 09-05 or 15-1915. Her mother was Louise Casey, who was born in 1854 and they were married in 1876. Hope that helps.
Unfortunately I have no information about Ernest Thomas, but I was wondering if you have any details about Palmira (Polly) Wyatt? Could she be related to James B Wyatt, b.1837 in VA; d.1864 in VA? Thanks!
