I have a map of 758 acres in Greensville County, VA, that belonged to Leander Osmore Holt (b.1856? in Southampton County, VA; parents; James Story Holt [b. abt.1830 Newsomes Depot,Southampton County, VA, d. 01/1863 Danville?, VA{CSA}], and Sarah Rebecca Lamb [b. abt.1835 Ivor, Southampton County, VA, d.? Blackwater, Cooper County, Missouri? ). This map came to my mother abot 25-30 years ago with some things that belonged to her grandmother, Effie James (Virginia) Holt Newsome, L. O. Holt's sister ( b.06/14/1862 Southampton County, VA, d.07/30/1949 Emporia, VA). I have studied a few civil war era and 1920 maps and have determined that the property is located somewhere in south east Greensville County, bordered on one side by the Meherrin River, possibly in the area of Haley's Bridge ( I don't know if it is still called Haley's Bridge, but I think it may be where Low Ground Rd crosses into Southampton County.) the map shows that across the river, in Southampton County, lived a D. R. Taylor. Does anyone have any information that would confirm any of this? The location has been a lot of guess work so far, but I would like to verify it. Also, does anyone have any information on Leander Osmore Holt ( wife, children, other descendants, date /place of death)?
