Hello. I don’t know whether this will be any help to you but I thought I would share what I have just in case. I’m not directly descended from either man, and the Bennet section of my tree is a real mess that I inherited from a family member who didn’t do much documenting. What I do know is that my 5th great grandmother Sarah Anderson was married to Rice Bennet and lived in Smyth County before she married my 5th great grandfather, Thomas Linthicum. One of the Bennet children was named William. My inherited information says he died in 1823 in Kentucky, but that isn’t documented. Even if it isn’t the same William, this William could be the father or uncle of the men you’re looking for. A lot of people in the family back then appear to have been named after someone else. Things get complicated with the names and dates I have. Either they are wrong entirely or some of the Bennet children took the name of linthicum after the marriage. Otherwise we have my 5th great grandmother having Bennet children both before and after Linthicum children, which I doubt happened. Even if it had happened, I seriously doubt she would have made it known. But anyway, it might be worth a shot for you to check for a connection with the Linthicum family or to look in Kentucky. The (possibly inaccurate) names and dates I have for Sarah’s children are Elisha Bennet 1750-1835, John Bennet 1770-1855, Mary Bennet 1753-1772, William Bennet 1755-1823, Elizabeth Bennet 1765-1813, Derrick Bennet 1765-?, Jane Linthicum 1766-?, Levi Bennet 1769-?, Thomas P. Linthicum 1771-?, John Linthicum 1773-1850, Sarah Linthicum 1784-1860, and two children with no dates: hezekiah Linthicum and Mary Linthicum (possibly Bennet). As you can see, it’s a mess, but hopefully it can put you on track to find the families you’re looking for.
