Sorry, I Didn't see your earlier post. I descend from Henry and Charity Trent, both born in the early 1800's in Virginia. Their children were born in Virginia, Tennessee, and in Kentucky reflecting their migration route from Virginia to Eastern Kentucky covering the time period from 1825 to about 1835. Family given names include Alexander, Isaiah, John Wesley, George, Calvin, Stokely, etc. Charity's surname is unknown and Henry's parents are unproven. Dr. Bill Rice

Kerry: Please add the following to your research...Leah and George Roller were my ggg grandparents. Their daughter, Elizabeth Roller, married Harrison Webb supposedly around 1863. Harrison Webb (b 15 Dec 1842 d 3 Jul 1911) and Elizabeth Roller (b 24 Aug 1847 d 12 Jun 1925) are buried in the Roller Cemetery (on private property) in Scott County, VA. Harrison and Elizabeth had the following children:

William Harvey Webb(1866-1913)married Mary E. Neely

Rebecca A. Webb (abt 1869)married(1)Grimes Neal(2)Pat Bledsoe

Laura Webb (1871-1872)

George W. Webb (1873-19366) married Martellia Bloomer

Robert Moore Webb (1876-1966)married (l) Julia ? (2) Annie Sprinkle

Elizabeth Webb (1878-1878)

Lucinda (1879-1908)

Henry (1882-1959) married Victoria McMillan

Wilson Berry Webb (1884-1970

Floyd Dee Webb (1887-1975) married Eliza Lawson

Charles C. Webb (1890-1951) married Barbara B. Tyler

I decend from Elizabeth and Harrison's son, George W. Webb. I have more detailed info if anyone is interested on Harrison and Elizabeth and their children. I, too, would like to know if there is any info out there on Leah's parents. Love sharing info with others.

_Early Osbornes and Alleys_ quotes comments in W. P. Kennedy's _Kennedy-Powers Family_ saying that in 1941 there was a remnant of a religious group known as "the little band" founded by Abijah Alley 150 years earlier. Abijah was born in 1794, so the group was not that old, but that it existed at all is fascinating, and that its followers persevered. Any information, clues, ANYTHING at all, will be much appreciated.
nancys@email.unc.edu

Hi Bob,

I think we have talked before. The Elias F. Bishop you are looking for is Elias Fulton Bishop, son of Samuel Bishop and Mary Neeley. Elias Fulton was married to Nancy E. Walling and they had a son Samuel P. Bishop listed in the 1850 census in the same household with his mother Mary. In that same 1850 census, was another Elias F. Bishop listed in the household with his mother, Frances 'Fanny' Wallin, along with Elias F. was his wife, Nancy Bishop and a son Samuel P. Bishop. Also listed in that same household was his sister Letisha and her son George W. In that census, both Letisha and George W. were listed by the name Wallin. Both of these Elias F.s were about the same age, as was thier wives and their sons, Samuel P. Bishop, all the more to confuse things.

Fanny Bishop was married to William W. Bishop Sr. in 1825 and they had 3 children, Nancy Ann Bishop, who married Abraham Miller, Elias f. who married Nancy ??? and Letisha, who was not married in 1850 that I know of. She later married George W. Kane and Noah Greer. I have heard and am inclined to believe that Letisha 'Lettie' was not the biological daughter of William W. Bishop Sr. William W. Bishop divorced Fanny in 1853 and he was allowed to remarry, but she was not. According to some other divorce records I saw, that happened when one of the parties committed adultry. Someone recently told me that they had heard (don't know if it is true or not), that Fanny Wallin Bishop ran a 'cathouse' and that her daughter Letisha was in it with her. That could be the reason for the divorce. Anyway, sometime after 1853, Fanny and her children moved to Kentucky. Mary Ann Miller moved on to Missouri after her husband died. Lettie later returned to Scott Co., Va and is buried in the Kane Cemetery there, and nobody know what happened to Elias F.

I have looked and looked for him and just can not seem to find him I have found Elias Fulton Bishop, who was the son of Samuel and Mary who had a son named William M. Bishop who was married to Dorinda 'Rinda' Quillen. I found their marriage record in the Scott Co., Va marriage records.

You might want to correct you records re: this matter. I have checked this out several times and have talked to Josie Faulkner about this and she agreed with me after I explained it to her. I was so hoping that I had found my missing Elias F. Bishop, but I guess not. I imagine he went to Kentucky somewhere, but I can't seem to find him in the census records anywhere. I did find an Elias Bishop in Kentucky at a later time, but the age seemed to be too old to be him. He was listed in someone else's household as father-in-law, but I can't remember off the top of my head the name. If that is not him, then I don't know where he went to.

I am sorry if I messed up your records. If you have any questions to get this straightened out, just let me know.
If I am not mistaken, you were looking for Matilda Mary Bishop who was married to Brian Bramwell Neely when I last talked to you.

Betty Bishop Willoughby
bettyw41@yahoo.com

Joseph Bishop's father was Sampson Bishop, son of John and Elizabeth Babb Bishop. Sampson had two sons by Elizabeth Walling, who he had planned to marry, but she called the marriage off and married a man named John Miller. Sampson acknowledged both his sons and took care of them. John died at about 33 years of age and I don't think he was married. Joseph married Nancy A. Brickey and they had several children, Elijah Martin was one of them.

I heard that there was bad blood between the Bishop's and the Miller's after that. Elizabeth Walling was the daughter of Frances Tyree and Joseph Walling. Frances Tyree Walling married 2nd to William W. Bishop, brother of Sampson Bishop. I have heard that he took care of Elizabeth Miller after Sampson died. William W. Bishop Sr. was the last of the Bishop sons to die, 1865.

******************************
"Sampson [Bishop] died 18 Aug 1861. I have his death certificate, it says he is the son of John and Eliz and was born in Penn. My older Bishop relatives have told me they think the Bishops came from Penn...." (Joan Vincent, Portland, Or, letter 16 May 1974)

Sampson Bishop was born in 1796 in VA. He was mentioned in a land deed between his father, John, Bishop, and the six sons on August 30, 1819 in Scott Co, VA. He died on August 18, 1861 in Scott Co, VA.

He never married Elizabeth Wallen Miller (born and died in Scott Co, VA.) but they had the following children together, whom Sampson claimed and raised as his own.

+55 i. Joseph Bishop (born in 1825).
56 ii. John Bishop was born in 1828 in Scott Co, VA. He died 18 Aug 1861 in Scott Co, VA.
The John William Bishop you are talking about is not John William Bishop. He is just plain John Bishop who married Elizabeth Babb. Johann William Bishop is John's brother. Both John and William are mentioned in their father, William's Will. Somebody evidently saw Johann William Bishop's birth record and automatically assumed that he was called John William, but he wasn't. He was called William and John was called John. William married Phillippina Kohler and John married Elizabeth Babb.

If you have any questions, you can email me direct.

Thanks,
Betty Bishop Willoughby
bettyw41@yahoo.com

If you find the Cookenour Cemetery, I would like to know where it is as well. I have Cookenour ancestors and am looking for the place they are buried. I know where 4 of the Cookenour children are buried. Jacob Cookenour and Mary Catron Cookenour (first wife) have 3 children that are buried at Arcadia Methodist Church Cemetery, in Sullivan Co. Tennessee, (Mary 'Polly' Cookenour married to Watson Ketron; Elizabeth Cookenour md. to Joseph Ketron; and Isaac Cookenour, married to Lavina Jane Ketron. 3 siblings married 3 siblings.

Jacob C.
I don't believe that our William W. Bishop Sr. was married to E;izabeth Pogue. She is never found in a census record with him. I also have some info that Got from another Bishop researcher that claims Elizabeth Pogue as the wife of another William Bishop who moved to Kentucky. I am inclined to think that Elizabeth is married to that William Bishop. The dates just don't fit for our William W. Bishop Sr.

Could you please tell me how you came to the conclusion that John Bishop who was married to Elizabeth Babb was named John William Bishop. The record that I found in the church records in Lancaster Co., PA shows a son named Johann William Bishop, b. 12 Dec 1746, however, that is not our John. William Bishop's will mentions both John and William in his will. Johann William married Phillipina Kohler, and of course you know our John was married to Elizabeth Babb. I have noticed that several people on the internet refer to John as John William Bishop and I just can't seem to get this straigtened out. I suppose that someone found the birth record for Johann William Bishop and automatically assumed that it was our John and his middle name was William, but that is not the case.

*********************************

The following is a copy of William Bishop's Will which will show you that John and William are two different people.

****************************

Dec'd I William Bishoff of Mountjoy Township in the county of
Lancaster being at present weak of body but of sound memory and
understanding therefore make my last will and testament if it should please
God to call me out of this world recommending my soul into the bonds of my Redeemer Jesus Christ and as to my worldly Estate I bequeath the same as follows:

First, I order that my wife Anna shall hold & possess everything that is to say all my money which I have and all my outstanding debts in Bonds & notes All my linen sheets table cloths of white ramen coever. And lastly I nominate & approve my said wife Anna and my son Christopher Bishoff Executors of this my last Will and Testament making hereby null and void all former & other wills by me heretofore made declaring this to be my last Will and Testament.

In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal on this 12 day of
January A Dom 1779.

William Bishoff seal

Signed sealed & declared as his last Will & Testament in the presence of us
Ballzis Slotz and Leonard Negley

Lancaster County as on the twenty fifth day of March in the year of our
Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Three before me the subscribed personally appeared Leonard Negley one of the subscribing witnesses to the above will and being duly sworn did depose and say that he was present and saw and heard William Bishoff the Testator above named sign and publish, pronounce and declare the foregoing writing as and for his last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind, memory, and understanding to the best of his knowledge, observation and belief.

Be it Remembered that on the twenty fifth day of March Anno Domino 1783 the
last Will and Testament of William Bishop late of Mountjoy Township in the County of
Lancaster deceased was proved in due Form of Law and Letters Testamentary there on were granted to Anna Bishop and Christopher Bishop the Executive and Executor therein named and being first duly qualified well and truly to administer the Estate of the said deceased and especially to exhibit or hire and perfect Inventory unto the Register Office on or before this
twenty fifth day of April next and to render a just and true account of their administration within one year or when thereunto lawfully required.
Thank you so much!
I live in SC and am not well enough to travel.
I am just getting started with Godsey line. Cornie Wood (b. 1895) married James Godsey. (These are the grandparents of cousins I'm trying to reach).
I am aware of a John Godsey, who married ? Jett. They were the parents of Ann Godsey. She married James O. Wood 06/07/1828.
I also have a aunt who is the widow of Emment Godsey. She is 100 years old and lives is Bloomingdale (Kingsport).
