I have read a great deal about the forts of southwest Virginia and recently made my first visit down to Moore's Fort, Kilgore's forthouse and the site of the former Porter's fort and cemetery. I have reason to believe that my Moores may be connected back to the descendants of William and/or Joseph Moore on whose land Moore's Fort was built in southwest Virginia. I know that Patrick Porter's granddaughter and Samuel Porter's daughter, (Sarah) Jane Porter married my Sampson Moore (1790-1858). I also know that Sampson's parents names were William and Sarah Moore. William Moore, on whose land Moore's Fort was built would have been too old to have been the father of my William Moore (Sampson Moore's father), but I want to explore the children of William Moore of Moore's Fort.

Has anyone compiled the genealogy of the Moores of Moore's Fort? Is that a project still waiting to be done? I also know that several Moores were massacred by the Indians on the southwest Virginia frontier, so that may complicate matters, but I want to put this request out there in hopes to connect with someone who has knowledge or tips...this link is as close to anything I have come (http://vagenweb.org/lee/AnnCowanMA.html)

Father: Billy Gene Moore (1934-1934)
Paternal Grandparents: Albert Moore (1878-1957) & Myrtle Mae Smith, 2nd wife (1898-1958)
Paternal Great Grandparents: Samuel Moore (1814-1893) and Mary Maynard, 2nd wife (1837-1915)
Paternal 2nd great grandparents: Sampson Moore (1790-1858) & (Sarah) Jane Porter (1793-?)
Paternal 3rd great grandparents:
Sampson's parents: William & Sarah Moore (only known by Sampson's death certificate)
Jane's parents: Samuel Porter & Mary Alley (both resided at Moore's Fort and later, Porter's fort
Paternal 4th great grandparents:
William & Sarah Moore's parents unknown
Samuel Porter's parents: Patrick Porter & Susannah Walker from Moore's Fort and Porter's Fort

So, I am interested in exploring the genealogy of the Moores of Moore's Fort to rule them in or out as the family of William Moore (father of Sampson Moore), since Sampson married another descendant of the original occupants of Moore's Fort. Any tips appreciated...
