In Cavaliers and Pio neers, Abstracts of Virginia Land Patentsand Grants 1623-1666, from Patent Book 1, Part 1, Nell MarionNugent has recorded on Page 65, an account of Jacob DeWi tt'stransportation to America.
Jacob DeWitt arrived in America at Jamestown, V irginia before1637. He was a French Hugenout that was "Imported" from France.It is my understanding that being imported meant that hereceived 50 acres of land and the person who bought him overalso received additional land. Elizabeth Pac ker, widow, 950acres, Henrico Co., 17 August 1637, p. 454 E. upon 4 mile creek, west upon land Seth Ward, South upon the river and north intothe woods. Due in right of her late husband Sargent WilliamSharpe, and Thomas Packer, who at thei r own costs and chargestransported 19 persons included Jacob DeWitt.
Note: came to America around 1607 from the Netherlands. French Heugenot religion. Name was LaBlanc (the White). Left France and went to the Netherlands where name was changed to DeWit.
