On 25 April 1850, William Jenkins wrote his will. It was recorded in the Rappahannock County Will Book C, Pages 37-39.
WILL OF WILLIAM JENKINS......
"I, William Jenkins of the County of Rappahannock and State of Virginia being desirous to dispose of all the worldly estate it has pleased God to bless me with to hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following.
First. My will and desire is that all my just debts be first paid.
Secondly. My will and desire is that as soon after my death as practicable my executor hereinafter mentioned sell at public auction all my personal estate together with the three tracts or parcels of land that I own, the ones known as the Skinner Bower, the second tract known as the Buck Hollow and the place I live upon. Said sale to constitute a fund subject to debts and distribution.
Thirdly. I give to my beloved wife Rachel Jenkins one full third part of all my estate and that she have her choice either to take the one third in land or money during her natural life, and at her death to be equally divided among my eight children to wit Roland Jenkins, Julia Clark, Gracey Hill, Charlotte Pullam, Nuraway Jenkins, Juretta Woodward, Garland Jenkins, and Albert Jenkins.
Fourthly. My will and desire is that all the money arising from the above sale after defraying all debts and expenses as well as the legacy left to my wife be equally divided among my eight children as above named.
Fifthly. My will and desire is that whatever may be the portion of my estate coming to my daughter Charlotte Pullam be laid out in land and that she make the choice of some friend to select a place to suit her, and that said land be conveyed to her for her exclusive benefit and in no way to be liable for any debts or claims that may come against her husband James Pullam and at her death to be equally divided among her children.
Sixthly. My will and desire is that the portions of my estate that may be coming to my son Nuraway Jenkins be equally divided among his seven children to wit Russel Jenkins, Mary Fry, Jane Atkins, Thomas Jenkins, Rebecca Jenkins, Rachael Jenkins, and Elliott Jenkins.
Seventhly. My will and desire is that whatever portion of my estate that may be coming to Mary Fry and Jane Atkins be for their exclusive benefit and in no way to be under the control of James C. Fry, the husband of Mary Fry or Larkins Atkins the husband of Jane Atkins.
Eighthly. It is here necessary to say, that I sold to my son Garland Jenkins a certain lot of land upon which he has built but has failed to pay for it, now my desire is that he have his choice to keep the land and pay to my estate Fifty Dollars or let it be sold and the money equally divided among my eight children as before mentioned. It is also necessary to say that I have paid for my son Garland Jenkins One Hundred and Fifty Dollars which sum I wish him to account to my estate for.
Ninthly. My will and desire is that at the death of my wife Rachel Jenkins, all the estate she may have be sold and the money equally divided among my eight children as before named.
Tenth and lastly. I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend Andrew R. Barbie Executor to this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of April 1850.

This Deed made the 16th day of Augut 1852 between Andrew R. Barbee, Executor of William Jenkins, deceased, of the one part and Isham Cornwell of the other part: Whereas the said Andrew R. Barbee,
executor of William Jenkins, deceased, did on the 9th day of August 1850 in pursuance of the directions and provisions of the last will and testament of the said William Jenkins, sell at public auction, a tract
of land containing 193 acres at the price of six dollars and forty-five cents per acre which amounted to the sum of $1244.85 at which said sale one John K. Hill was reported as the purchaser in the list of sales of the real estate of the said William Jenkins, returned to the clerk's office of the County Court of Rappahannock and of record in the said office, but in fact the said tract of land was purchased by the said John K. Hill and William T. Hill, Phillip F. Hill and John N. Hill the last named three persons being the sons of the said John K. Hill; And Whereas the said Andrew R. Barbee, executor of the said William Jenkins, deceased in order to secure the payment of the purchase money of the said tract of land retained the legal title to the same; And Whereas the said John K. Hill, Wiliam T. Hill, Phillip F. Hill and John N. Hill failed to comply with the terms of sale and have also failed to pay the purchase money of the said tract of land as the same became due and payable and by a written agreement dated March 31st 1852 acknowledged their inability to pay to the said Andrew R. Barbee, Executor as aforesaid, the said purchase money and declared that they were willing and deserious in order to save the costs of a chancery suit that he the said Andrew R. Barbee, executor of the said William Jenkins, deceased,
should resale the said tract of land and apply the proceeds of such sale to the payment of their liability to him for the purchase money of the said tract of land and did give up to him full possession of the same in order that he make the said resale; And Whereas the said Andrew R. Barbee, executor of the said William Jenkins, deceased, did on the 3rd day of August 1852 resale at public auction upon the premises to the highest bidder the said tract of land at which said resale the said Isham Cornwell being the highest bidder became the purchaser at the price of one thousand dollars. Now Therefore, this deed witnesseth, that in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars paid to the said Andrew R.
Barbee, executor of the said Willliam Jenkins, by the said Isham Cornwell the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said Andrew R. Barbee doth grant unto the said Isham Cornwell all that tract or
parcel of land known as the upper part of Skinner Bower and bounded as follows..............containing 193 acres. And the said Andrew R. Barbee covenants that he will warrant specially the property hereby
conveyed. Witness the following signatures and seal.
