James Edward Dunkley Sr Obit

James Edward Dunkley Sr., age 93, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

He was the son of the late Edward and Jessie Gleaves Dunkley.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Sue Vaught Dunkley, and two sisters, Julia Courtney and Helen Dunkley.

He was a former member of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors, American Legion Post 9, and Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge # 235. He attended Crockett's Chapel United Methodist Church and served in the 8th Army Airforce from 1942 to 1945, as well as 30 months in England.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Cathy and Donnie Pattison of Wytheville, Kay Dunkley of Stuart, Susan and Russell Fisher of Wytheville, and Helen and Harry Moore of Cripple Creek; one son and daughter-in-law, James E. "Jimmy" Dunkley Jr. of Cripple Creek and Jacqueline Dunkley of Collinsville; seven grandchildren, Jill and Todd Brewster, Jamie and Amy Dunkley, Kelly and Robbie Thomas, Jeff Dunkley, Jon Fisher, Jessica Moore and Jared Fisher; two great-grandchildren, Meagan Brewster and Shania Thomas; two nieces, Ann Lankford and Julia C. Middleton; and one nephew, Lewis Courtney II.

The funeral service was conducted Friday in Crockett's Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Callahan. Burial was in the Gleaves family cemetery with military graveside rites performed by American Legion Post 9.

I. Louise Janney McGhee, 64, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

She was born in Henry County on June 10, 1945, to Ada Clarice Janney Sigmon.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a son, James E. McGhee Jr.; her stepfather, Melvin Sigmon; two step-brothers, Lewis Sigmon and Elton R. Janney; two step-sisters, Evelyn Dunford and Dorothy Sigmon; grandparents, Everette E. and Laura W. Janney; and great grandmother, Ada M. Wyatt.

She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

Surviving are her husband, James E. “Jimmie” McGhee; one son, Jason E. McGhee of Stoneville, N.C.; one granddaughter; two sisters, Elsie J. Foley of Martinsville and Virginia J. Harris of Woolwine; two brothers, Robert Sigmon of Bassett and Charles Sigmon of Axton; three step-sisters, Mabel Martin of Fieldale, Mae Naff of Henry and Gay Thomas of Collinsville.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor John Shelley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Wyatt family cemetery.

The funeral for Carolyn Fay Grindstaff, 41, who died Oct. 27, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service. Pastor Elwood Gallimore will officiate. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.

She was born in Henry County on Sept. 5, 1968, to Robert Clarence Price and Nannie Fay Price.

Robert Shelburne “Shell” Stowe, 70, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at his home in Fieldale.

He was born May 19, 1939, in Patrick County to James Robert Stowe and Fredia Lawson Stowe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five half brothers, Walter Stowe, Arthur Stowe, Howard Stowe, Russell Stowe and Enoch Stowe; and three half sisters, Addie Smith, Hallie Corns and Mary Sue Macemore.

He was a retired truck driver and part-time farmer and a member of Valley Drive Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Annie Hopkins Stowe; one son, Robert Stowe Jr. of Fieldale; one daughter, Sandra Evans of Fieldale; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; three sisters, Doris Tuggle of Patrick County and Beatrice Hopkins and Marie Hopkins, both of Fieldale; one half sister, Ada Gauldin of Martinsville; and a half brother, Otis Stowe of Patrick County.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hopkins family cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Rakes officiating. The family will receive friends at his home, 71 Artwood Drive, Fieldale.

Larry Dean Deskins, 59, of Atwell, W. Va., died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 27, 1950, in Welch, W. Va., to Ira H. Deskins and Sylvia Davis Deskins of Martinsville.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Deskins; and a son, Jeffery Deskins.

He was a disabled coal miner.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sons, Jessie H. Deskins of Martinsville and Jason Ray Deskins of the home; six grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Price of Martinsville and Joan Rose of Atwell; five brothers, Earl Deskins, Ronald Deskins, Lee Deskins and Eldon Deskins, all of Martinsville, and Michael Deskins of Stuart.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Atwell Mountain United Church of God, Atwell with the Revs. Roger Hale Sr., Hubert Sweeney and Charlie Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Deskins cemetery on Atwell Mountain.

Mr. Timothy Lin “Tim” Shough, age 37 of Ridgeway, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

He was born in Henry County on July 6, 1972. He was a member of Fontaine Baptist Church in Ridgeway, had been an auto mechanic, and had served in the United States Army.

Mr. Shough was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Elsie Shough.

Mr. Shough is survived by his wife, Tracey Caroline Ashburn Shough of the home; two step-sons, William W. Shough of Harrisonburg and Anthony James Shough of the home; his father and step-mother, James and Regena Shough of Patrick Springs; his mother and step-father, Rhonda G. and Steve Doss of Danville; one brother, Kenneth Blaine Doss of Danville; one sister, Kelly S. Burton of Danville; his grandparents, J.B. and Hattie Mae Gilley of Ridgeway and Elaine Doss of Stuart.

Dehne was born July 6, 1956, in Racine, Wis., to George Orville Dehne and Esther Wendorf Dehne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandy Hammond and Donna Dehne; and three brothers, William Dehne, Roger A. Dehne and Jimmy Dehne.

WALNUT COVE - Mr. Charles Glenn Lawson, "CG", age 84, went home to heaven on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Walnut Cove Health-care after an extended battle with dementia.

God saw you tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." REJOICE Glenn was released from the toils of old age and dementia. His body and soul has been restored to clarity in the presence of his LORD.

He was born February 1, 1925 in Patrick County, Va. to Charlie and Mattie Deatherage Lawson.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later was a truck driver with Hennis Freight Lines. He was a devoted member of the Baux Mountain Church where he served as an usher until his health declined. He enjoyed a good life of health which only begin to deteriorate over the past five years. He enjoyed the Blue Ridge Mountains and being outdoors. One of his joys was going to his farm in Fancy Gap where he raised cattle and farmed. He especially loved when his grandchildren would visit in the summer.
In 1947, he married Virginia Blaylock, with whom he enjoyed 62 years of life. She was his life long partner who cared for him at home as long as she could and visited him frequently once he was in the nursing home. Glenn was a loving husband and was an equally loving and inspirational father to his four children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Campbell, three brothers, Ray Lawson, Bill Lawson, and Clyde Lawson, and three half-sisters, Bessie Burge, Nina Goad, and Janie Johnston.

He is survived by his best friend and wife, Virginia Blaylock Lawson of the home, one daughter; Charlotte (Terry) Woody of Walkertown, three sons; David (Katherine) Lawson of Winston-Salem, Jerry (Melinda) Lawson of Winston-Salem, and Steve (Angela) Lawson of Springfield, Texas, eight grandchildren, Angie Bullins, Tamara Sullivan, Kelly Ninh, , Candice Champe, Luke Lawson, Matthew Lawson, Morgan Lawson, and Michael Lawson, and six great grandchildren, Wesley and Maggie Bullins, Matthew and Spencer Sullivan, Caroline Champe and Kennedy Ninh, a "very special friend and caregiver" Hubert Clodfelter and many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many more friends acquired during his lifetime in Winston-Salem.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2009 in Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6:00- 8:00 p.m., Saturday, November 7, at the funeral home. In lieu of flower, donations should be made to Baux Mountain Church, 4334 Lake Woussicket Road, Germanton, NC 27019. A special thank you from the family goes to all the nurses and CAN's at Walnut Cove Health Care for providing a home for our Dad for three years. Thanks to Hospice of Stokes County for your support.

Sue Jackson Hardy, 82, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C.

She was born June 27, 1927 in Surry County, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Randall Hobart and Lena Matthews Jackson.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye Jackson Christian; and a brother, Randall Matthew Jackson.

She retired from the North Carolina school system and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy.

Surviving are one daughter, Sarah Scott of Claudville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. Burial was in the Westfield Baptist Church cemetery.

Shelby Jean Martin Minnick, 65, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

She was born Feb. 7, 1944, in Henry County to Calvin L. Martin Sr. and Permelia Hylton Martin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Garland Minnick; and a brother, Calvin L. Martin Jr.

She was of the Baptist faith and was a former employee of Bassett Chair.

Surviving are two daughters, Robbin Acord and Kimberly Gale Foley, both of Bassett; two sons, Jeffery W. Minnick of Patrick County and Brandon M. Minnick of Bassett; two sisters, Virginia Young of Bassett and Nancy Lawson of Greenville, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with the Rev. John Shelley officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.

LaVergne Tuck Woody Obit

LaVergne Tuck Woody died on Sunday, October 25, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

LaVergne was a native of Patrick County, VA. The daughter of Thomas Jefferson Tuck and Hattie Rhodes Tuck, she and her sister Dorothy Tuck Johnson grew up in Stuart where LaVergne was the Valedictorian of Stuart High School. She attended Mary Washington University and was graduated from Longwood College.

She met her husband, Rees Woody when they both worked together at Fairystone State Park in the summers. They were married in 1949, and in August celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
LaVergne began teaching school in Stuart, VA, but spent most of her 30-year professional career teaching English at Bassett High School. She shared her wisdom with multiple generations of students and was honored by them with yearbook dedications and teacher-of-the-year honors.
LaVergne served on the Board of the Patrick County Library and Museum. She was a member of the Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church where she was the assistant organist for many years. She and her husband, Rees, were also members of the American Saddlebred Horseshow Association of Virginia (ASHAV). This spring they were inducted in the ASHAV Hall of Fame.

LaVergne is survived by her husband, N. Rees Woody; her daughter, Claudia L. Woody, her son, Norris R. Woody; daughter-in-law, Patricia Malone Woody; grandsons, Trey Woody and Patrick Rees; granddaughter, Melissa MacGregor and husband Reed; and great-granddaughter; Michaela MacGregor. She is also survived by the extended family that she created out of love and inclusion: Zoe Griffith, Sandy Ball, Lynn Spruill, Brenda Redd, Steve Malik, Carolyn Vaughan, Jimmy Kindle and Pauline Moore.
In additional to her many other family members, LaVergne leaves behind a multitude of friends who have been touched by her kindness, courage, grace and love.

Arrangements are being handled by Moody Funeral Home, Stuart, VA. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday night between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. The funeral will be at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church, in Meadows of Dan, VA on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. There will be a light lunch at the family home in Meadows of Dan following the graveside service. MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Charles William Holt, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.

He was born in Patrick County, Va., on Jan. 21, 1935, to the late Crockett and Cora Lawson Holt.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Holt was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Handy Holt; two sisters, Eva H. Collins and Essie H. Wood; and his stepmother, Eda Holt.

Mr. Holt was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Mount Airy and had retired from Food Lion with 28 years of service.

Mr. Holt is survived by one son, Keith William Holt of Mount Airy; two sisters, Irene Rigney of Bassett, Va., and Frances Koger of Patrick Springs, Va.; three brothers, Junior Holt of Stuart, Va., Lester Holt of Fieldale, Va., and Paul Holt of Stuart, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Mr. Holt will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Roberson Family Cemetery with the Rev. Bernard Handy and the Rev. Don Collins officiating. CANA,Va.— Mr. Rodger Anderson Holt, age 62 of Cana, VA passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at his home.

Mr. Holt was born in Patrick County VA, on November 13, 1946 to the late David Oscar and Susie Gammons Holt.

Rodger served in the United States Army with time spent in Vietnam. He retired from Unifi, Inc. after 29 years of service and attended Mt. Airy First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding his tractor, cutting wood and going on camping trips.

He is survived by his wife, Janette Gentry Holt of the home; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Rex and Nicole Holt of King, David and Jeanette Holt of Mt. Airy; a daughter Tracy Fowler of Mullins, SC; four step sons, Kenneth Carter of Stoneville, Brandon Holt of North Wilkesboro, Mike Holt of Mt. Airy and Travis Holt of Cana; stepdaughter, Kendra Leonard of Cana; six grandchildren, Brooke Holt of Raleigh, Lindsay Holt of Mt. Airy, Blake Holt of Mt. She was also preceded in death by a son, Nathaniel Manns; a grandson, Andrea Pace; two sisters, Ollie Dandridge and Catherine Cunningham; and a brother, Randolph Wade.

She was a machine operator at Bassett-Walker for 25 years, and was a member of Mount Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was in the church choir.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Eugene Dillard of Martinsville; five sons, Alver E. Dillard and Cleon E. Dillard, both of Collinsville, David D. Dillard and Andrew L. Dillard, both of Martinsville, and Richard W. Dillard of Greensboro, N.C.; four daughters, Janice J. Pace of Collinsville, Sharon L. Hairston of Ridgeway, Stephanie R. Dillard of Martinsville and Abigail T. Reynolds of Patrick Springs; one brother, James Wade of Fieldale; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Mount Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church by Elder J.T. Agnew, pastor. Burial will be in the Wade family cemetery in Fieldale.
The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service.
Arrangements are by Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home.

The funeral for Seab Arnold Hodge, 75, of Bassett, who died Oct. 17, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with the Rev. Dave Keaton officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home at 86 Friendship Drive, Bassett.

He was born on April 22, 1934, in Giles County to Thomas Marion Hodge and Edna Virginia Sarten Hodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marion Arnold Hodge and a sister, Lucy Surratt.

He was of the Holiness faith.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Eunice Lucas Hodge of the home; three sons, Claude Eugene Hodge of Patrick Springs, Robert Daniel Hodge of Henry County and Charles David Hodge of the home; a brother, William Henry Hodge of New Castle; two sisters, Christine Brown of Ripplemead and Edna James of Rich Creek; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

I am looking for any info on the Father of Marvin H Conner, Everett Conner. Specifically, where is he buried and what is his DOB. I found a listing in the Daily Bulletin, morning edition of Martinsville, VA which listed his date of death as 27 Jan 1938, age as 45 and having died in Middletown, VA. There is no mention of where he is buried or his birth date. I can find NO info anywhere to verify that date of death. This is my husband's grandfather and we would love to know where andwhen he was buried and who his parents were. We still live in Woolwine, where the family was from. Mr. Cornelius H. Spencer, age 70 of Galax passed away Friday at Twin County Hospital in Galax.

He was born in Henry County on Sept. 29, 1938 to the late Widdie and Hester Mize Spencer.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four sister, Viola Hall, Kathy Cassidy, Vada Spencer, Vera Riddle; and two brothers, Alfred “Junior” Spencer and Owen Spencer.

Surviving are four sisters, Dorothy Sprouse of Glen Allen, Lucy Roberts of Martinsville, Macy Wright of Patrick Springs, Versey Pendleton of Stuart; and one brother, Clinton Spencer of Spencer.

Mr. Ronald E. Dalton, age 54 of Meadows of Dan passed away at the Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, NC.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1954 in Patrick County to the late John Henry Dalton and Claudine Agnes Handy Dalton of Meadows of Dan.

In addition to his father he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Allen Dalton, Nathaniel “Buster” Dalton, one half brother, Henry Davis Dalton, one half sister, Dolly Dalton; two infant brothers; and one infant sister.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters and a brother in law, Catherine and Jim Beasley of Reidsville, NC, Peggy Bowman of Reidsville, NC; four brothers, Leonard and Tanya Dalton of Meadows of Dan, James Dalton of Critz, Jerry and Joyce Dalton of Ridgeway, and Steve and Charm Dalton of Lexington, NC.

Funeral services for Mr. Dalton will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Vesta Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Jonathan Goins officiating. She was born in Bluefield, W.Va., on March 3, 1961, to Carrell E. Wright of Bassett and Estel R. Mullins, who preceded her in death.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her son, Shawn Mullins of Bassett; a daughter, Betty Jo Copley of Bassett; two sisters, Christina Beal of Bassett and Sherri Harris of Stuart; and one granddaughter.

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Margaret Marley Idol, 92, a resident at River Landing at Sandy Ridge, died Monday September 28, 2009 at the Hospice Home at High Point.

Mrs. Idol was born March 9, 1917 in Stuart, VA a daughter of Henry Charles and Kathryn Perkins Idol.

Margaret was raised in Greensboro and has been a resident of High Point since 1936. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Christian Life Class.

On November 8, 1938 she was married to Vernon Welch Idol Jr. who preceded her in death on November 22, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph P. Marley.

Surviving are two daughters, Kay Idol Kelly of High Point, Anne Idol Koontz of Calabash; five grandchildren, James Vernon Straka, Kathryn Layne Straka, George R. "Chip"Straka, Lori Ann Maness, William E. "Billy" Koontz, Jr. and five great grandchildren Weston James Straka, Kelli Maureen Straka, Molly Katherine Maness, Liam C. Koontz, Amanda Kristine Maness.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at River Landing at Sandy Ridge conducted by the Reverend Dr. Jim Wilson. Private family committal services will be held at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

He was a US Navy veteran having served in the Vietnam War and was a member of Friendly Worship Center in Ridgeway, VA. Mr. Katzer had been employed by Boxley Concrete Corporation.

He was born in Floyd on April 15, 1928 and was a son of the late John B. Hylton and Melissa Ellen Weeks Hylton.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Fredrick Hylton and Ralph Hylton; a sister, Elizabeth Bolt; and a great-grandchild, Chip Sesco.

He was an independent truck driver for 20 years. He was then employed by General Motor Lines and retired from New Energy Bedrooms in 2005. He was a member of Christiansburg Church of the Brethren for 59 years.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Miriam Schneider Hylton; three sons, Stephen Hylton of Bluefield, Gerald Hylton of Christiansburg, John Hylton of Ironto; one brother, Curtis Hylton and wife Lillian of Meadows of Dan; one sister, Shirley Hylton Richards of Floyd; three grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd with Pastors Donald Peters, Clyde Hylton and Jerry Hylton officiating. Burial was in Laurel Branch Cemetery in Floyd.

Mr. Sandy Robert Goard, age 95 of Stuart passed away Saturday morning at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.

He was born on March 6, 1914 in Patrick County to the late John Thomas Goard and Susella Collins Goard.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Eligah, his twin brother Andy, Levi, and Joseph Goard; and five sisters, Elsie Plasters, Mary Gunter, Rachel Wade, Bessie Tucker, and Christina Hundley.

Mr. Goard served in the US Army in the European Theater; was a member of the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard; a member of American Legion Post 105; and was a longtime member of Peters Creek Baptist Church where he served in many capacities throughout his life.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Georgia Corn Goard of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Peters Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Ragsdale officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. He was born in Floyd County on April 1, 1922 to the late Horace Chymer and Lena Altizer Akers.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Akers was preceded in death by one brother, Julian Akers and one sister, Lucille A. Duncan.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren and a long time attender of Woolwine United Methodist Church. He had served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II with the 529th Fighter Squadron and the 311th Fighter Group, receiving several medals including the Asiatic Pacific Theater medal with 3 bronze stars, Victory WWII metal with bronze star and the 14th Air Force Flying Tiger patch. He had retired from J.P. Stevens.

Mr. Akers is survived by his wife, Lucille Harris Akers of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura A. and Tom Holmgaard of Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, J. Brian and Trinh Akers of Woolwine; one granddaughter, Kelsey Holmgaard and two grandsons, Emory Holmgaard and Issac Holmgaard, all of Roanoke; one sister, Frances A. Weeks of Floyd; and several nieces and nephews.

She was born August 18, 1912 in Endicott and was a daughter of the late James Goode Lane Hash and Nannie Ruth Snead Hash.

She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Noah, Abram, Chester, Lester, Noel and Amos; two sisters, Sally and Virginia; one son, W. Paul Thomas; and her husband, A. Maurice Thomas.

She was an alumnus of Radford University and taught school for 29 years. She was a member of the Fairystone Fire Department Auxiliary and the Patrick County Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are two sisters, Gustava Sutphin of Silver Springs, Md., and Ruth Jones of Rocky Mount; one brother, Dr. John Hash of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Geogene Hash of Dublin; three daughters, Elaine Belcher of Woolwine, Ilene Spencer of Madison, Ala., Nancy Henley of Roanoke; a daughter-in-law; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were conducted at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Saturday by the Rev. Jim Churchwell and Brother Lowell Hopkins. Burial was in the County Line Cemetery in Floyd.
