Mary Virginia Kyle, 94, of King’s
Grant Retirement Community, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at King’s
Grant.
She was born in the Penn’s Store community of
Patrick County on Nov. 23, 1914, to Charlie
Cabell and
Cora Taylor Grogan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry M. Dinsmore, who died in 1954; her second husband, Bernard
Jeremiah Kyle, who died in 1993; a sister, Anne
Grogan Darnell; and three brothers, James,
Cabell and Tom
Grogan.
She graduated from Spencer-Penn High School, Harrisonburg State Teachers’
College and
Radford College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught in Patrick and Henry counties and Martinsville for 41 years. She was a member of the state, district and local Retired Teachers Association of Martinsville and
Henry County.
She was a member of First
Baptist Church of Martinsville, the
Olivia Keesee Sunday School Class,
Baptist Women, Patrick Henry
Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mary Anna Jackson
Chapter of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Sue Kyle
Robertson of Ashland; two nieces, a nephew, six stepgrandchildren, 11 stepgreat-grandchildren and one great nephew.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at First
Baptist Church of Martinsville with the Revs. John
Fulcher and Nancy S. McDaniel officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Abbey.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the
Victory Chapel of King’s
Grant with the Rev. Bill Plonk officiating.
